The S-Rank Guide’s Escape from Idol Hell 7

[I’m sure of it. That was the moment I became corporeal. I woke up like this after hearing the plan to extract me from you and transplant me into someone else. I was furious.]

“…Did you see who was doing it?”

[That much, I couldn’t catch. I was too busy running for my life.]

“…I see.”

My whole body trembled with rage, and I couldn’t speak any further.

Potato slowly approached as I gripped the bedsheet tightly in my hands.

[I’ve been looking for you. Because I’m ‘Resurrection.’ I was created to bring my master back to life, and I’ve been searching for you ever since.]

The sprouting potato, grown over countless buried years, began to tell its story.

It said it had gone to the frontlines, where it assumed I had been buried—but that area had already turned into a wasteland.

[All that was left was a giant crater. The fortress built to repel monster invasions and the remnants of the dungeon gate—completely gone.]

“…Who would do something like that?”

[I don’t know. But it didn’t feel like something the higher-ups did. There was a flower placed in the center of the crater.]

“A… flower?”

A flower blooming in such a barren place?

As I tilted my head in confusion, Potato leaned into me, chattering away.

[It was a wildflower. Just something that grows along the road. I don’t even know the name. But I could tell. Someone left it there in memory of you.]

“Why would you think that?”

[…Because I scoured the crater and found the dismembered corpses of upper management. The same people who told us to give up on saving you. It was gruesome.]

“…What the hell…?”

No way.

Je-ha, was that you?

In the nightmare I’d had, Je-ha had gone berserk.

The higher-ups deemed him useless and tried to discard him, and at the end of my dream, he had engulfed the whole area in flames. I assumed he’d died.

“…So he’s alive…?”

[Sounds like someone comes to mind.]

“My… Esper partner. Hyun Je-ha.”

If he’d survived those flames, and discovered that I’d been killed because of someone’s plot…

Then he definitely would’ve taken revenge in my place. Je-ha was that kind of guy.

We were close partners—bonded tightly, impossible to easily tear apart.

“If Je-ha’s alive, I’m glad.”

I might get to see him again.

I didn’t know where he was, but if he was alive, then there was hope.

My partner. My Esper. My precious comrade.

[…You look happy.]

Before I noticed, Potato had climbed up and settled on top of my head.

“What the—why are you sitting on my head?”

[Because I’m your power, a part of you. I’ve finally found my master—so naturally, I’m sticking around like a loyal companion.]

“…Well, fair enough. But are you not going to merge back into me?”

I pointed to my chest as I asked, and Potato let out a sigh.

[If it were that easy, I’d have merged with you already.]

“So there’s a condition?”

[Maybe. I don’t really know either—this is the first time I’ve ever had a physical form.]

Potato paused, then said,

[More importantly, don’t you want revenge?]

The air around me seemed to dim completely at those words.

“…Didn’t you say it was only the higher-ups who tried to take you that died in Je-ha’s rampage?”

[Yeah. Only the henchmen got wiped out.]

“……”

[The real masterminds stayed hidden. I couldn’t uncover them. I was too busy trying to find you. I don’t even know what Hyun Je-ha is doing now.]

Potato said that he could faintly feel traces of my soul. Because he was part of my power, a fragment of me, he’d followed the resonance and wandered for years.

[I wandered for 20 years, hoping I’d find you someday.]

And at last, he had.

[I caught your familiar energy blinking faintly in the distance—it was a relief.]

Potato said he’d followed the trail and found Yeon Yu-jin. He’d seen Yu-jin die and my soul enter that body, so he had tailed us ever since.

[Maybe, when we got close again, a bit of self-healing kicked in and you were able to take a form—inhabiting a soulless body. Your real one is probably nothing but bones buried in cold earth by now.]

“…You…”

[I can’t forgive the bastards who tried to kill you—my master—and take me for themselves.]

“…Yeah. Same here.”

Back when I didn’t know what had happened, I’d been too stunned to react.

But if I died—if I ended up possessing some stranger’s body—just because some bastards wanted my power and killed me for it…

“Then they deserve the same in return.”

Let them feel what it’s like to be used up and die in hell.

I’d accepted the loss of my ordinary life.

Because I’d become a Guide. Because someone had to fix this broken world. Because I had the power to protect people, and that came with responsibility.

But if, at the end of all that sacrifice, I was just a hunting dog thrown away after the rabbit was caught…

“Just sitting around would be idiotic, wouldn’t it?”

My teeth ground together.

[That’s more like my master.]

Potato yanked at my hair, bouncing gleefully.

“Since the upper management stayed in the back, safe and protected, most of them are probably still alive.”

If I could find them, maybe I could dig up information on who killed me.

[Some of them are Espers or Guides, so you’ll need to be careful.]

“That’s fine. I could take those bastards out without even—”

…Or so I thought.

Huh?

I’d jumped up with confidence, but the moment I stood, dizziness struck me hard.

On top of that, I must’ve overeaten the food the manager brought earlier—my stomach rumbled ominously.

“B-Bathroom!”

I bolted for the restroom, and after finishing my business, I sat on the toilet in deep thought.

This body… really was garbage.

If I want revenge, I should start by getting my body in shape.

[Agreed!]

Setting a goal for this new life was a good thing. But facing reality only brought a sigh of dismay.

“…Potato, what the hell is this bank balance?”

[I-I’m not sure either…]

After a cozy night’s sleep in the hospital room with Potato, the first thing I did upon waking was check Yeon Yu-jin’s bank account.

Getting healthier required money.

I want nutrient supplements for ability users… or better yet, dungeon-grade stamina recovery items.

Eating right was important, but I also planned to start working out.

I’d even looked up specialized training centers for Guides and dreamed of hitting the best programs.

Even if he was a failed idol, surely he had some savings, right?

But…

“There are… way too many zeros missing from this number…”

[Uhh… yeah…]

“Haha. I must be reading it wrong, right, Potato?”

[I’m sorry, Master, but… I think your body’s previous owner really was flat broke.]

Sure enough, Yu-jin’s bank account was a dusty can of emptiness.

The remaining balance wasn’t even enough to call “savings.” One account was in the red.

“…What the hell….”

What kind of bottomless pit was this guy?

To make things worse, Yeon Yu-jin was an orphan—no parents, no relatives to rely on.

He’d lived alone all his life, and his list of acquaintances could barely fill one hand.

Even the texts he exchanged with those few people were aggravating.

“…They’re all just begging to borrow money.”

[The rest are spam messages from loan sharks.]

What kind of life had he lived to end up with nothing?

The more I looked into Yeon Yu-jin’s past, the more hopeless it got.

Other than a pretty face, he apparently didn’t have much going for him—he wasn’t especially talented.

Even portal searches yielded little more than icy or scathing responses.

A team made of four Espers and one Guide, calling themselves Secreti— I’ll admit, the name was kind of fresh. There was potential in the team dynamics.

(YouTube link attached)

Their first single had that rookie charm—refreshing and youthful.

(Fancam link attached)

(Photos focused on Yu-jin attached)

…No words.

(Pic of Yu-jin looking utterly disinterested)
(Pic of Yu-jin hitting a sour note)
(Pic of Yu-jin making a disgusted face at a cheering fan)

Anyone who’s been in a fandom would know XD

That dead fish stare ^_^

Honestly, just based on this— Yeah, skipping on YJ is the smart choice. The rest of the members are okay. What’s the agency even doing?

LMAO why even make a team of Espers and a Guide?
Aren’t those guys useless without constant skinship?
They’re basically announcing they’re baiting fans. Gotta be subtle, you know? No thanks.
