#36

I stared at the paper falling in front of me. In the game, a window for selecting subjects appeared along with various icons. But what was in front of my eyes was just a thin sheet of paper.

The paper listed various subjects I could take. There were blank spaces to write my name and the subjects I wanted to take. I looked at it quietly, then wrote down the subjects that Persis and Iria took in the original story.

Wondering if there might be any other subjects that appealed to me, I scanned the paper a bit more. Then a subject name caught my eye: “Demon Research.” This was a subject I had never seen in the game. Surprised, I checked the teacher in charge, and found Yaksi’s name, who was to be our homeroom teacher.

It seemed that Yaksi’s appearance had created a new class. I wasn’t entirely happy about new elements emerging that differed from the game. I worried if I could properly arrange for Iria and Persis to meet at this rate.

I didn’t want to take a class with Yaksi, who didn’t particularly like me, but I couldn’t simply ignore this new variable. Moreover, the subject name kept catching my eye. “Demon Research.” Perhaps I might find a means to stop the Duke.

“Those who have finished writing, bring it to the front.”

Yaksi said, tapping the podium. Several students stood up and took their papers forward. After deep consideration, I also made my decision and took it to the front.

“Once you’ve submitted, gather outside. There will be a simple skills test.”

“Pardon? A skills test?”

“Yes. There was no practical portion during the entrance exam, right? Come outside.”

Although there were common classes for magic or swordsmanship, the school the students attended was not a military academy. As a result, there were several students who lacked physical training.

Commoners expected to learn sword skills or magic from the basics at this school, which they hadn’t been able to access before, while nobles thought physical activity wasn’t their business. So it was understandable for them to be surprised by a sudden skills test.

The students looked at Yaksi, who was leaving after saying only what she needed to say, with cold sweat. Amidst the murmuring students, I sighed in relief.

Fortunately, things were flowing as I had seen in the game so far. It might seem like a sudden skills test, but it was something mandatory at this school.

In the game, this skills test was turned into light mini-games. Iria’s basic abilities were determined based on the scores from those mini-games. If they were mini-games, one could aim for a perfect score. But what Yaksi was planning probably wasn’t like that.

I got up from my seat and was about to go outside.

Yutis, who was in the same class, approached me.

“Um…”

“Let’s go.”

I didn’t understand why he was sticking to my side as if trying to assist me. Why was he doing this? In the original story, Yutis didn’t care about Andelion as soon as he entered school. They were just in the same class, with no other connection.

Yutis’s face, standing next to me, was stiff. It seems that orders had been given to Yutis to stay by my side. What was the Duke thinking when he gave such instructions to Yutis? No matter what I said here, I couldn’t detach Yutis. Besides, I didn’t want to argue with him in front of so many people.

In the end, I went outside the building with Yutis. Throughout the walk, I thought I was going to die from the stress of having Yutis beside me.

As we went outdoors, a refreshing breeze blew, clearing the stuffy air a bit. Yaksi, who was waiting ahead, was still pressing down her robe even outside, as if she wasn’t feeling stuffy at all.

“Line up in the order you arrived.”

Being pushed by students who came earlier, I ended up standing behind Yutis in line. Surely we won’t spend the entire school life like this? I couldn’t help but worry.

“Excuse me…”

Just then, someone’s voice was heard from behind. I couldn’t believe I could hear this voice here. It was the voice of someone I had deliberately avoided looking at too intently. The moment I heard that voice, my lips went dry. I could feel my fingertips trembling from the tension.

After composing myself, I turned my head to see Iria, who had called me. I had felt it when I saw her briefly before, but I wondered how the school uniform suited her so well.

Since it was a first-person female-oriented game, I couldn’t see many standing illustrations of Iria. But now it was different. Not only could I meet Iria directly like this, but I could properly see her appearance. I felt so fortunate to have been reborn.

Hoping desperately that my facial expression wouldn’t falter, I answered her.

“Yes?”

“Do you know what we’re doing?”

“Since they said it’s a skills test, I guess it’ll be a simple practical evaluation?”

“Ah, maybe so?”

In fact, some people didn’t need to take the skills test. Students who were injured during the accident on the entrance ceremony day were still unable to attend school. Even in such a situation, there were students who had defeated the suddenly appearing magical beasts. One of them was Iria, who was standing in front of me. She and others like her were skilled individuals who didn’t need testing.

“No, I’m just a bit nervous since they suddenly announced it.”

Iria placed her hand on her chest, smiling awkwardly. Looking at her now, her face was slightly flushed. She, who had given speeches in front of many people and had stood at the very front during the entrance ceremony, defeating magical beasts, was nervous about something like this.

The sight of her taking deep breaths several times looked so lovable. At that moment, my expression softened without me realizing it.

“Don’t laugh. It’s my first time taking a test in front of so many people.”

Iria said, as if scolding me, while pouting her lips. Only then did I realize I had been smiling. I quickly touched my face with one hand and hardened my expression.

It seems I was half out of my mind, unable to believe that she had spoken to me first.

“I’m sorry. That wasn’t my intention.”

“I know. I’ll believe you.”

I needed to end this conversation now, but I couldn’t take my eyes off Iria, who was laughing cheerfully.

“It’s about to start.”

At that moment, Yutis, who was standing in front of me, abruptly spoke, as if entering between us. I was both grateful to Yutis for cutting off the conversation and somewhat accusatory. When would I get to face Iria again? Unable to hide my regret, I inadvertently let out a small sigh.

“Ah, I didn’t ask your name. I’m Iria. And you?”

I heard her softly whispering voice behind my back.

The first meeting between Iria and Andelion wasn’t like this. Iria helps Andelion, who is struggling with school life, and the two gradually grow closer. In the game, Andelion becomes her friend in some routes, a man she needs to protect in other routes, and her companion in yet other routes.

What about Andelion in Persis’s route? He was just one of the classmates she had to help. But I couldn’t keep Iria waiting. It’s just telling her my name. I thought this much wouldn’t cause any problems, so I whispered softly.

“I’m Andelion.”

The name, which was once unfamiliar, now fits me like my clothes. I couldn’t believe this moment of telling her my name. If I were someone who kept a diary diligently, I would have opened my diary as soon as I entered the dormitory room. Actually, should I start writing a diary from today?

While I was slightly excited, Yaksi looked at the students lined up in a row and shouted.

“Now, come forward one by one from the front and tell me what you’re confident in. I’ll adjust accordingly. If you don’t know swordsmanship or magic, running is fine, and strength is fine too. If you have nothing, just say you have nothing. I’ll check for myself.”

Check for herself? What is she trying to make us do? I was worried just hearing about it. The students felt the same way, exchanging glances and whispering softly among themselves.

“Instead of noisily chattering, come forward one by one, starting from those at the front.”

And so, one by one, they demonstrated their skills in front of Yaksi. Some rolled around until they were about to vomit in a short time, while others had their magical abilities confirmed by placing their hands on a bead that Yaksi had prepared.

It seemed quite amazing that one could confirm abilities with just a bead. We didn’t have such things in the Duke’s household.

Yutis said he could do swordsmanship and demonstrated the basic movements he had practiced. As he swung the wooden sword from top to bottom without any unnecessary movements, cheers naturally arose. If just that was enough to capture attention, how amazing would it be if Yutis showed his true skills?

“Good. Okay. I got it. Stand to the side. Next.”

After Yutis finished, it was my turn. This was the first time I had properly faced Yaksi since seeing her at the scene of the incident.

Your Highness, please become a man worthy of that person. How deeply immersed was I that I actually possessed the character 'Andelion' from the dating simulation game 'Luper'?! For a happy ending, I need to make the protagonist and the Empire's prince Persis into a couple. However, the more I watch the two gradually grow closer, the more confused I become by inexplicable feelings... Will 'Andelion' be able to safely reach the happy ending? [Preview] "You said you wanted me to live for myself, right?" I tried not to turn my gaze toward Persis as much as possible. It was difficult to face him directly. "I thought about it carefully last night, you know? What it means to live for myself." It would have been so much better if you had slept to prepare for today instead of spending time on that. I suppressed the urge to voice my bitter thoughts. "But you know what? No matter how much I think about it, I can't live the way Ana thinks I should." I figured as much. He's never done anything according to my wishes. Even from childhood, no matter how many times I told him not to do this or that, he never even pretended to listen to me. Still, back then he managed to do what he wanted just fine, so I couldn't understand why he couldn't do it now. "Well, a life lived for myself wouldn't be in the form Ana wants." I blinked slowly, not quite understanding. Suddenly, Persis moved closer to me and whispered in my ear. "Ana, I'm going to live for you." I never expected Persis to approach me like this. Startled, I could see the defensive magic I'd been concentrating on wavering in the air. It was enough to unsettle the soldiers waiting inside. I somehow managed to focus my mind and restabilize the magic. "That's what living for myself means."
