As soon as he turned on his device, Divine notifications flooded the screen. Not only that, but new alerts kept coming in one after another.

Sa-yoon checked the screen and frowned. That bastard had been quiet for a while—was he just waiting for the cooldown to reset?

“Is it something urgent?”

“Huh? Oh, no. Just spam messages.”

“These days, spam must come in like a lunatic sending message bombs.”

“I swear, my personal information is probably traveling the world before I do.”

Speaking casually, Sa-yoon switched on Do Not Disturb mode, and only then did the vibrations finally stop.

“Oh, right, sunbae.”

“Yeah?”

“That game we started back then.”

Even someone like Sa-yoon, who didn’t know much about sashimi, could tell that the tuna pattern on this plate was something extraordinary. And judging by the amount he had just paid, the quality was exactly what it should be. Lifting his head from the sashimi, he looked up at the unexpected topic.

“Actually, I don’t play it.”

“You don’t play it, but you have the app installed?”

“Yeah. A friend needed to do a referral event, so they told me to install it. Then I just forgot to delete it.”

“Ah……”

Just as Shin-jae had said, Divine had held a referral event over the summer. If a new player was invited and reached level 10, both the referrer and the new player would receive various rewards, including rare titles and items. The rewards were generous enough that people had been pitching the game to every acquaintance they could find.

For the record, Sa-yoon hadn’t participated—there were no appearance-based items in the rewards.

“Is it fun? If you recommend it, I might give it a try.”

“You’ve never played it at all? You have to level up to 10 to get the rewards.”

“My friend took my ID and leveled it up for me. Then they probably just abandoned it.”

At first, everyone had complained about the referral event, but once the influx of new players became noticeable, it was pretty amusing.

Veterans always had a natural instinct to welcome newbies. Sa-yoon’s eyes sparkled.

“Have you played RPGs before?”

“Yeah, I played Sion for a bit back in the day.”

Sion had practically dominated the domestic MMORPG scene a few years ago. Since then, countless copycats had flooded the market, until Divine came along and carved out a new era.

“Then it won’t be too hard for you. RPGs are all pretty similar.”

“What server are you on, sunbae?”

“Me? I’m on Cygnus. But if you’re starting fresh, pick a city server. Avoid rural servers.”

“Rural servers?”

“Servers with lots of players are city servers. Ones with fewer players are rural servers.”

“Oh, so that’s the standard.”

Sa-yoon idly wished the developers would buff Warlocks since all these clueless newbies kept getting baited by flashy class showcase videos.

It was an absurd hope, but he figured a bit of career counseling wouldn’t hurt. It wasn’t exactly a difficult favor.

“You don’t know what class your friend picked for you? The referral rewards go to both the existing and new player, so you should take advantage of that.”

“Something with ‘demon’… I remember that word being in it.”

“Demon Hunter?”

“No, not that. You know, the ones who summon demons and control them. What are they called… Summoner?”

“…What?”

“Is that class any good? The demons were cute. I watched the class video, and this one stood out the most—it was the flashiest.”

Sa-yoon had always enjoyed seeing newbies fall for misleading promos, but realizing someone he knew was about to walk straight into hell made his head hurt.

“…Not a great choice?”

Sure, Sa Shin-jae was an annoying, cocky junior, but he wasn’t an enemy. As a decent human being, it was only right to steer him toward a better path.

“Uh… Let’s just make a new character. There’s an EXP booster event right now.”

He couldn’t bring himself to say, You just picked the absolute worst class out of all eight choices.

“…So it’s really that bad.”

“It’s not that bad.”

Annoyed that his good deed was being questioned, Sa-yoon shot back defensively.

“What about you, sunbae? What class do you play? I’ll just pick the same one as you.”

“Rather than copying me, you should choose something that suits you.”

“Then what about the one I mentioned earlier? Demon Hunter?”

“That one’s fine. If you like dealing damage, go for it.”

It did require a hefty investment to get properly geared, but considering the guy was barely twenty and already driving his own car while frequenting high-end restaurants, that probably wasn’t much of an issue.

“Aren’t you gonna ask me what server I’m on?”

“A guy who doesn’t even know what class he plays probably doesn’t know his server either.”

“Ah… Yeah, fair point.”

“Do you actually know your server?”

Divine’s servers were all named after constellations and nebulae from mythology. It wouldn’t be strange if he remembered it.

“No, now that I think about it, I probably don’t.”

“Your friend probably made your account on whatever server they were playing on.”

“Yeah, that makes sense. Should I just make a new character on your server, sunbae?”

“…Do you have to?”

Sa-yoon wasn’t exactly the type to be friendly to newbies. He had been playing solo for a long time, and just keeping up with his own progress was already enough work.

Besides, his class had an awful reputation, making it even less ideal for party play.

“By any chance, do you have a friend you usually play with—”

Creak.

The door suddenly slid open without warning, and a plate piled high with tempura was brought in. Even without an explanation, it was obvious that this was the last dish before dessert.

At first, he had been worried about whether these small portions would be enough to fill him up, but at some point, he had become uncomfortably full.

“What were you saying just now?”

“…Nothing.”

“How’s school?”

“It’s whatever.”

“Why? You seemed to be getting along fine with your classmates. No one you’re seeing?”

Without realizing it, Sa-yoon fell back on his well-honed social instincts. He wasn’t actually all that curious—it was just a reflex.

“I’m not really interested in dating.”

With that, Sa Shin-jae downed his drink in one go. The gesture made it clear that he didn’t want any further questions, so Sa-yoon dropped the subject.

Right on cue, dessert arrived.

At first, he had wondered if the constant interruptions from the staff would get in the way of conversation, but now he found himself grateful for the timing.

When they left the restaurant, Sa Shin-jae’s dazed expression upon realizing the bill had already been paid was quite the sight.

Later, during his treatment, he was told that his recovery was progressing faster than expected. The doctor even praised his impressive healing ability.

Other than the fact that his hand was still out of commission, it hadn’t been a bad day.

And then, that evening—

[ sj ] I’ll do it, filming

[ sj ] And just wait and see. Next time, I’m going to steal your wallet, sunbae.

Sa-yoon chuckled as he read the message. Effort never betrays.

This was the well-earned fruit of his patience.

[Party] GegulGegulFrog: Chasa-nim, I missed youuu ㅠ

[Party] Chasa: Ah, yeah.

[Party] Shokrates: Seems like Chasa-nim didn’t feel the same ㅠ

[Party] Chasa: haha you guys did just fine without me.

Sa-yoon had always put more faith in his natural healing ability than in physical therapy, but Sa Shin-jae was different. He had been so persistent about checking in daily through messenger that Sa-yoon had finally given in and attended all his sessions properly. And it actually worked.

As soon as he had recovered enough, Sa-yoon logged into Divine without hesitation. The moment he connected, he was practically kidnapped into a party and greeted with an over-the-top welcome.

[Party] GegulGegulFrog: Of course, I ate well, slept well, and took nice dumps, but, you know, emotional longing is a thing ㅠ

[Party] Freedeal: (Gegul, what’s up with you today?)

[Party] furple: (No idea. Maybe heatstroke?)

[Party] GegulGegulFrog: So mean ㅜ

[Party] Oath’s Vow: It’s been a while since we had this setup. Two robes.

[Party] Shokrates: I still think Black Mage & Warlock combos are the best ㅇㅅㅇ

[Party] Freedeal: Right, right! This setup forever, please ^^!

Today, Furple had taken the spot of 44, who was absent for once. They ran the dungeon as usual, sticking to their familiar routine.

As expected, nothing dropped. Not just Warlock gear—nothing at all.

Each time a boss fell, everyone opened their loot chests only to let out helpless chuckles. They mocked each other’s terrible luck, taking turns opening boxes, but every single one came up empty.

[Party] Freedeal: This is seriously weird;; The drop rate isn’t normally this bad…

[Party] Shokrates: I keep submitting tickets asking if that drop rate buff announcement was a scamㅇㅅㅇ

Revealing his hidden nature, he sneered— “I bet this is how you always play it off when you get rejected after creeping on people. I’m the one being stalked here, so why the hell are you acting like the bigger person?” After being repeatedly accused, Sa-yoon’s patience snapped. “Alright, Shin-jae.
