Recall Guide 27

# Chapter 27

Even after searching again on the Center application, there was no Guide whose matching rate with Lee Seungwoo was better than Ko Eungyo. He had planned to clean up the mess that the past Ko Eungyo had created by providing proper Guiding to Lee Seungwoo from now on and setting his life back on a normal track.

Judging by the lack of contact, Lee Seungwoo didn’t seem to have any such intention.

“Hmm…”

While it’s true that you can’t force someone who doesn’t want peace and gratitude, it still felt unsettling.

Ko Eungyo put down his phone with a deep sigh. It was the first time he had waited for a call that wouldn’t come, and it left him feeling uneasy.

That’s when it happened.

His phone rang. He picked it up, startled despite himself, but the caller was the same as last time.

Ko Eunso.

After briefly wondering who Ko Eunso was, he soon remembered. She was Ko Eungyo’s blood relative (presumably) who had called him when he first opened his eyes in Ko Eungyo’s body, spewing curses and hanging up, saying that this incident had ended her family connection with him.

‘What’s this about? Didn’t she call back then as if she was completely cutting off family ties…?’

That experience had been too intense to forget. He answered the phone in confusion.

“…Hello?”

[Ko Eungyo.]

He clearly remembered her voice being rough and angry when she first called… but not this time. Ko Eunso’s voice still sounded cold, but that seemed to be because her voice itself was naturally chilly. If he were to say her tone had somewhat softened… would that be an illusion?

The voice that had bitterly mocked and reproached him then now even waited calmly for him to respond.

“…Yes.”

Through the phone, he heard a calm “hmm” sound from her throat.

[It seems you unexpectedly found the Korea University classes to your liking? Although the student evaluations weren’t great, I heard the actual quality of your lectures was quite high. I didn’t know you planned to work so hard. I thought you took the commissioned lecture position just to see Woo Sihyun, being obsessed with him as usual.]

“…”

[Have you changed your mind a bit now?]

How on earth should he answer that?

He had no idea how the ‘original’ Ko Eungyo had conversed with Ko Eunso. Therefore, not knowing how to speak, he pondered how to handle this situation.

For now… he should answer.

“Yes. Well.”

Was that too blunt? She seemed to be a blood relative who had looked after him, even preparing cards for him before raising her voice saying she would cut ties. Maybe he should add something with a touch of aegyo.

“…Thank you.”

[I see.]

Either Ko Eunso didn’t notice that Ko Eungyo was different from before, or she didn’t find anything strange about his aegyo, as she briefly commented on Ko Eungyo’s lectures.

She continued saying that she had seen the students’ reports and recorded files, and while it couldn’t exactly be called perfect, she highly evaluated it as the first task Ko Eungyo had completed properly without causing trouble.

He felt somewhat happy to receive praise from someone else for the lectures that no students had acknowledged—no, only Nam Seonjae had acknowledged.

He unconsciously adjusted his grip on the phone. And he listened attentively to Ko Eunso’s words, occasionally responding with “Not really,” “Yes,” and “Thank you.”

The call didn’t last long. Just when it seemed the call was about to end, Ko Eunso said in a patronizing tone that she would give him a reward.

“A reward?”

[Yes, Secretary Shim will bring you a card.]

A card!

That was definitely an eye-catching reward.

He immediately suppressed his excitement. He remembered trying to simply maintain the status quo when he first opened his eyes in this body—no more, no less. This was because he thought he might be expelled from this body and the real Ko Eungyo could return at any time. But now he thought that Ko Eungyo might not return, and he was becoming greedy for his future life.

Yes, greed. Greed, indeed.

Wanting to live better. Being a field Guide again. A healthy desire to live diligently with a healthy body, not a sick one. While he might not achieve results as a high-level Guide, he wanted to return as a field Guide and work as a Guide. Achievement had always been the driving force that made him live his life.

With the card Ko Eunso was giving, he wouldn’t have to worry about living expenses and could focus on preparing to become a field Guide.

[And I hear that Esper Woo Sihyun hasn’t been listening to you lately? I found out he left your ‘my’ list on his own. I’ve put him back in his place. While I don’t particularly like seeing you obsessed with that guy, since you like him so much.]

“…Pardon?”

[No need for thanks. I’m hanging up.]

He blinked blankly at the phone after the call had ended.

*

He was extremely anxious. His mouth was dry. There was truly nothing he could do except sit still, not knowing what to do.

After receiving Guiding from him that day, Lee Seungwoo never called for Guiding again. But he had confirmed that Lee Seungwoo was still on his ‘my’ list. On the other hand, as soon as Woo Sihyun received permission to leave the ‘my’ as he wished, he left Ko Eungyo’s ‘my’ without a second’s delay. He confirmed that too. But…

Now, Woo Sihyun was back.

Right there.

On Ko Eungyo’s ‘my’ list…

“Ha…”

This was—this had to be a dream. It had to be.

“Is there anything else you need, young master?”

A businesslike voice flowed from not far away.

He gazed with a gloomy expression at the tall man sent by Ko Eunso. Secretary Shim, who was said to be Ko Eunso’s close aide, was a man with such a cold impression that it seemed not a drop of blood would come out if pricked with a needle, but his tone was kind and polite. Honestly, he still didn’t know much about Ko Eungyo’s background, but it seemed certain that he was the child of some significant corporate chairman.

Of course, at this point, he couldn’t ask the man in front of him or Ko Eunso which major corporation Ko Eungyo belonged to or what the corporate family tree looked like. That would be tantamount to admitting he wasn’t Ko Eungyo. He might even be suspected of being truly insane.

This man had just come to this house to deliver a card to Ko Eungyo on Ko Eunso’s instructions.

“It’s fine. Please tell her thank you for the card.”

“…Yes. I will convey that to the Executive Director.”

“Thank you.”

So Ko Eunso was… an Executive Director. Her voice had sounded very young, which was unexpected. No, it wouldn’t be unexpected. Most parachutes were young.

“…Not at all.”

Secretary Shim’s response came a beat late. He didn’t seem like someone who would be slow to react? When Ko Eungyo looked up with a puzzled face, Secretary Shim cleared his throat.

“If you need anything later, please feel free to contact me anytime.”

“Ah, yes. And, Secretary Shim. I would be grateful if you could please tell the Executive Director to… reconsider what I said about Esper Woo Sihyun.”

“…Yes, I understand. Then.”

The door closed silently. After seeing Secretary Shim off to the front door, he returned inside with his shoulders slumped powerlessly.

He helplessly fell back into the pit of thoughts about Woo Sihyun. He thought he could successfully break off the bad relationship, but to be reconnected with Woo Sihyun like this.

It was a terrible thing. The Director would misunderstand him again. Woo Sihyun, who thought he had escaped once, would be furious at being forced back like this.

“Ha…”

He would feel the same way if he were Woo Sihyun.

As soon as Ko Eunso hung up, Ko Eungyo tried to call her back to ask her not to do this, but she didn’t answer. So he had no choice but to send her a message, but she rejected his words outright by replying that he shouldn’t bother her anymore with such matters.

Later, seeing that she didn’t even read his messages, it seemed she thought Ko Eungyo’s words weren’t true.

Why on earth?

When he said he didn’t want it, why wouldn’t she listen?

At first, he thought it would be fine if he could just remove Woo Sihyun from his ‘my’ again quickly. But as communication with Ko Eunso broke down, a response became impossible.

‘Damn that button…’

Back then, when he went to the Center, he should have asked the Director to reactivate the disabled delete button instead of asking him to transfer the responsibility. This disaster happened because such a significant matter was left to the Espers’ discretion. No, the Espers weren’t at fault. It was because of him. It was karma returning once again due to his past behavior.

Damn it, cursed Ko Eungyo.

He was nervously biting the tip of his nail when he stopped in surprise. He hadn’t had such a bad habit…

※ This book contains trigger elements such as coercive acts and violence. Please be advised before reading. Former S-class guide Jang Iju, who once operated on the frontlines, has possessed the body of B-class guide Ko Eungyo, a man labeled as the ill-mannered illegitimate child of a wealthy family. Though he tries to enjoy his new life, Ko Eungyo's past behavior has left him penniless, and he finds himself willingly entering into a group of Espers who despise him. *** Suddenly, Lee Seungwoo revealed his teeth. In a deserted place, within the pitch-black university grounds, he leaned closer toward Ko Eungyo. Almost as if his lips would touch Eungyo's ear. Yet their skin never actually made contact. "Tell me, Eungyo. What do you want to possess now? You already had Woo Sihyun. Is it Nam Seonjae? Do you want Nam Seonjae this time?" "..." "How long will you continue being so promiscuous?" His eyelids trembled. It could have been from the cold. As he tried to stand up from the puddle-covered ground, a ruthless hand gripped his shoulder and forced him back down. Water droplets splashed upward. Flustered, he tried to remove Seungwoo's hand, but his own hand was merely caught over the back of Seungwoo's. For a moment, Ko Eungyo thought he saw Seungwoo's expression distort. He expected to be hit or at least have his hand flung away as if touching something filthy, but Seungwoo did neither. It seemed as if he feared Eungyo might escape from beneath him. Or perhaps he enjoyed the situation of dominating him. How long will you continue being so promiscuous? "Bad feeling" wasn't enough to describe it. Anger flowed through his breath. Trying to suppress his ragged breathing, Ko Eungyo sharpened his tone. "What are you doing?" "Someone who should know better shouldn't try to end a conversation and leave as they please." Seungwoo apparently thought they were having a pleasant chat. "You call this a conversation?" "This kind of conversation seems to suit you." He looked up at Seungwoo without hiding his bewilderment. Yet he still couldn't read Seungwoo's expression. In the dark rain, the area beneath the umbrella would only brighten momentarily with occasional thunder. The only warmth here came from Seungwoo's hand. That fact was spine-chillingly horrifying.
