Proper Esper Training Guidelines 27

After letting out all their pent-up emotions and disappearing into their own little world, Park Woo-jun and Lee Han-seo might’ve been all smiles—but the person left behind had to bite back tears and cling to his dignity as a professional.

“Director… What are we going to do…?”

“Yeah, no kidding. What the hell are we supposed to do now…”

Defeated, the director had been chain-smoking non-stop. There was just one week left before the deadline for the promotional video the Center had commissioned. But the main camera—probably swept up in the chaos when everyone bolted—had turned up completely wrecked. By the time he found it, it was too late. No matter how he tried to slice it, rescheduling with Park Woo-jun was flat-out impossible.

Government departments tended to stick with the same production companies once selected, preferring consistency. That made these quarterly public service campaigns a prime gig—and a lot of companies were lined up hoping for a shot. They’d already drained the Center’s budget to cover things like amusement park lockdowns and special cameras for shooting staged rescue scenes… and now it had all gone down the drain.

“Should I at least ask Esper Park if he can spare even one day?”

“Ugh… What do you think? We booked this shoot three, four months ago. And even if we reshoot, what’s the point? The equipment’s ruined, the storyboard’s useless, and even if we manage to film something, we won’t make the deadline once you factor in editing and rendering.”

“So what now?”

“What do you think? We’re screwed, man.”

He’d called every repair shop he could find, hauling around the busted camera and external hard drive, only to hear the same thing every time—data recovery was a lost cause.

Tch, whatever. Let’s just stick him in uniform and grab a few canned lines around the Center. Call Lee Han-seo, tell him we only need about thirty minutes.”

“Yes, sir…”

Grinding his half-smoked cigarette into the ashtray, the director let out a long sigh and stood. Enough sulking. Time to deal with the mess.

Check whether any background actors had been hurt. Call the insurance company—see if Dungeon Breaks counted as natural disasters for equipment coverage. Reach out to repair shops one more time, just in case… Tonight was going to be a long one.

“Director! Geez, why weren’t you answering your phone?!”

He was rubbing at his bleary eyes when the youngest writer burst into the office, practically shouting.

“What is it now? Don’t tell me someone actually got hurt—”

“No, nothing like that!! The amusement park just called. Said they found something we might’ve left behind and asked if we wanted it couriered over. It was the mounted camera we used for the making-of footage. It’s totally fine. The data’s intact too!”

While the writer looked ready to do backflips from relief, the director didn’t budge. If the other staff hadn’t insisted on at least checking it out, he wouldn’t have given that behind-the-scenes footage a second glance.

But in the end, when it feels like the sky is falling—sometimes a crack of light gets through.

“…Hey. You didn’t call Guide Lee Han-seo yet, did you?”

“No.”

“Don’t bother. We don’t need to reshoot. We’ll just record the narration and wrap it up.”

The footage showing Park Woo-jun walking away through the chaos—his back straight, steps unwavering—was more powerful than anything they could’ve staged.

The director felt it in his gut: this was going to be a hit.

S#1. Amusement Park – Day

Soft, cheerful music plays in the background, mingling with the laughter of children and the chatter of families and friends. Under the warm, lazy afternoon sun, the amusement park feels like a slice of peace.

Just when everyone seems wrapped up in that tranquility, phones start buzzing and ringing all over the park. Confused expressions spread as people check their screens.

Then—BEEEHHHNG! A sharp, piercing siren cuts through the air. An emergency alert blares: this is not a drill. Follow evacuation instructions immediately. A child who was giggling moments ago now bursts into tears in their parent’s arms.

Amid the chaos of people fleeing in panic, two men stand still. They’re holding hands.

The taller man kneels on one knee, looking up at the other with quiet intensity. He gently pulls the joined hand closer and brushes a kiss across the knuckles. A bright smile lights up his face. The noise drowns out his words, but his lips are clearly visible.

“I love you. I’ll be back.”

He turns and walks away without hesitation. The camera zooms in on his retreating figure.

S#2. Amusement Park – Evening

The sun is setting, casting long shadows over the now quiet amusement park.

The shorter man stands alone, waiting. He paces, anxious. Then—just as the sky deepens into twilight—the one he’s been waiting for finally appears.

He runs to him without a second thought and throws himself into his arms.

The taller man hesitates for a moment, staring at the blood on his own hand… but then he wraps both arms around the other, holding him tight, smiling like the sun breaking through clouds.

As the evacuation order is lifted, people begin to return, spotting the emotional reunion—and break into spontaneous applause and cheers. Embarrassed, the two glance around, then smile at each other again.

The taller man suddenly lifts the other in his arms and carries him off in a hurry. The camera closes in on their retreating figures before cutting to the final insert:

[Your safety. Protected by Espers and Guides, together.]

Published 20XX.06.26 | Reporter Jo Han-yong, Issue Tomorrow

A promotional video released by the Esper Affairs Center, featuring Chief of Espers Park Woo-jun (24) and his partner Guide Lee Han-seo (24) dressed in school uniforms, has quickly captured the public’s attention.

(Video Clip)

The Esper Affairs Center, in collaboration with the Public Service Advertising Council, released its third-quarter promo online last Wednesday. Starring Park Woo-jun and Lee Han-seo—widely known as Korea’s top Esper-Guide duo for their outstanding mission engagement and success rates—the video generated a buzz the moment it dropped.

Each quarter, the Center produces a new campaign centered around the pair. This latest clip, just over a minute long, caught viewers’ eyes with its unusual setting: a school uniform concept shot in an amusement park. It also gained attention for including actual footage of an unexpected Instant Dungeon opening during the shoot.

The video is scheduled to begin airing on TV and subway platform screens starting Monday, July 4.

ㄴ “My older sister works at the Center as a Level 9 civil servant, and she said even when Woo-jun and Han-seo do shoots like this, they only get standard overtime pay. What kind of system is this?”

ㄴ “When’s the last time we saw Han-seo in a school uniform? Damn. Let’s destroy the Earth and hand it over to Han-seo.”

“That oppa is still so ridiculously handsome.”

ㄴ “Oppa…? (suspicious squint)”

ㄴ “LOL I lived in the same neighborhood as Park Woo-jun. He was famous for being hot since we were kids. I think someone even posted a boyfriend meme of him on Facebook once.”

ㄴ “Didn’t he model for A University’s business school guide during his college days? Back then, everyone in the reading room had that ‘Path to A University’ pamphlet taped to their desk. If you were from the class of XX, the neighborhood grandmas will definitely back me up on this ^_^”

(“same here” meme)

ㄴ “Honestly, it’s still surreal. I went to middle school with him and used to wonder—who would someone like Park Woo-jun even fall for? Like, does anyone even register after seeing his own face every day? Turns out, I was wasting my time. You had it all planned, huh, Woo-jun? No wonder you dated without ever showing a hint of interest. Hmph. Wishing you a happy love life.”

“Whoa. The Center’s actually doing its job.”

ㄴ “L O L”

ㄴ “TYTY. Thanks. T_T”

“What is happening. Is the Center shutting down? Why are they suddenly dropping all this content?”

“Park Woo-jun is unreal. How is a nearly 190cm-tall Esper acting all pouty like that? Ugh. The making-of is too delicious—I mean, entertaining.”

ㄴ “Woo-jun, if you keep this up, you’re only going to end up a global megastar millionaire. You good with that?”

“Seriously, what’s gotten into the Center… It’s been like three years since they last did a promo with Park Woo-jun and Lee Han-seo, and they never released a making-of back then.”

ㄴ “Buddy, don’t think too hard. Just feast. Remember when they promised monthly wallpaper drops? Released them till March, then bailed. Just assume there’s no Episode 2 and enjoy Episode 1 while it lasts.”

(Video)

ㄴ “?? What is this?? Where are they?? Why are they kissing in the middle of the street???”

ㄴ “Oh my god. This is too real. No one can top this. T_T T_T T_T”

ㄴ “T_T T_T T_T Holy crap, I’m so glad I lived to see this…”

ㄴ “Why was it taken down?!”

ㄴ “Please, gods, ancestors, spirits—just one more time, please. Young women in their twenties are dying here.”

“What was that video up there? Am I the only one who missed it? No one saved it? T_T T_T T_T”

“Why are the comments exploding? I went to eat and came back—what happened??”

ㄴ “WHY did you eat?! While you were gone, a video of Park Woo-jun and Lee Han-seo kissing outside the Center dropped.”

ㄴ “?? Was I dreaming? Where is that video now?!”

ㄴ “Where do you think? Lee Han-seo’s not just anyone. That thing got nuked in under a minute. LOL. Immediate takedown.”

“It’s always me. I’m always the one who misses it… LOL…” (soju drinking meme) “Be happy, you two… Please, just let me see you date properly next time…” (ugly crying meme)
