My Confession Was Ruined Because of a Zombie 8

He had forgotten about his family while being absorbed in the situation. When he belatedly opened the family chat room, there were a bunch of messages from his family looking for the youngest.

How could he have forgotten about his family. Cursing himself for being stupid, he quickly sent [The youngest is at school and alive. There are many zombies in the hallway and classroom, so I may not be able to answer or be late, please understand!] with a fighting emoticon.

Next, in the friend chat room that was filled with all kinds of curses, he sent a message [The rooftop is locked. I will move to the cafeteria with Yeoul. Leave a message as soon as you check where everyone is] and put it in his pocket.

“Done. Let’s go.”

Taewoong took the lead and went down the stairs. Yeoul followed behind him.

As soon as they set foot on the 5th floor, a zombie staggering and making strange noises greeted them. Yeoul flinched unknowingly.

It’s definitely not the first time seeing it, but it’s scary. He swallowed his saliva and tried hard to suppress his fear, and Taewoong, who was walking ahead, stopped. Soon he turned his body and silently mouthed ‘Why?’ with only his lips moving.

He couldn’t give Taewoong a hint. He shook his head as if it was nothing. Then he tried to move again, but Taewoong approached faster than that.

The moment he opened his eyes wide in wonder, Taewoong’s hand touched his head. Tap tap. He lightly patted and stroked his head.

He only patted his head, but the mind that was complicated with fear cleared up. He smiled awkwardly and nodded. Taewoong grinned and took the lead again. He carefully took a step, looking at the solid back.

Come to think of it, it would be Taewoong’s first time with zombies too, but how can he be so calm. Is it because he competes with all sorts of people?

While pledging that he really falls in love who knows how many times and that he should confess, the tension loosened.

After minimizing their breathing and footsteps, they carefully walked while avoiding the zombies gathered around the speakers as expected, and in the meantime, the view outside the window caught his eye. Yeoul looked out the window and froze on the spot.

“…… Ah.”

There were zombies outside too. And in various forms.

A middle-aged female zombie who seemed to be someone’s mother, young-looking male and female zombies wearing uniforms from a nearby middle school, and a grandmother zombie stepping on a bouquet. Unlike other zombies, the grandmother zombie who was only trembling without any clear movement made him choke up again.

“Yeoul-ah.”

An elderly zombie. He absolutely can’t deal with it, he thought she would definitely become a zombie, and then he heard a low voice in his ear. Startled, he covered his ears reflexively and crouched down.

His whole body trembled from the sudden surprise. As he stayed still until he calmed down, his shoulders were lightly grabbed.

“Yeoul-ah, it’s okay. It’s me. Nam Taewoong.”

At the kind yet composed voice, he carefully looked to the side and met eyes with Taewoong who was looking at him with a worried expression.

“Are you okay?”

“…… Mhm. I’m okay.”

At the worried face he had seen before, he came to his senses.

I, I made Taewoong worry about me not just once but several times! I’m so pathetic that I feel like screaming! Yeoul made a horrified face and screamed silently, then shook his head hard. He pulled himself together and walked again, following Taewoong who was looking around.

Taewoong’s class 9 was at the end of the left corridor. As Taewoong was about to turn the end of the corridor where the water purifier was installed and go inside, Yeoul grabbed his arm with a “Wait!”.

“Wa, wait a minute.”

When Taewoong met his gaze with wonder, Yeoul held out both hands. Taewoong lowered his posture with good intuition.

The bag came closer. Yeoul unzipped the bag quietly and took out a half-empty bottled coffee and held it out.

“Wanna drink?”

Why coffee all of a sudden? Taewoong’s eyes widened in wonder, but soon he nodded and took it.

His throat was parched from being tense. He drank the coffee that he didn’t know whose it was without putting his mouth on it. Then he gave it to Yeoul, who finished the remaining little coffee.

If he had known Yeoul would drink it, he should have drunk only a little. As he was regretting, he became curious about what Yeoul was going to do with the empty bottle.

Is he going to throw the empty bottle at the zombies? As Taewoong watched, Yeoul glanced at the zombies in the hallway, went to the water purifier, and put a little cold water in the bottle to rinse it. He roughly threw out the water mixed with coffee through the window and filled it with clean water.

“That’s… In case we can’t get water.”

Water was as important as food. He secured one bottle for now just in case. Yeoul left a short explanation and put the bottle in the bag.

“…… Wow.”

Taewoong, who realized Yeoul’s words a beat late, gave Yeoul a thumbs up with an impressed face. They passed Class 7, which was crowded with zombies, towards Class 8 while Yeoul blushed like a peach and shrugged his shoulders.

Class 8 was also full of zombies outside the window. While looking at those zombies, wouldn’t it be better to close the door for later? he thought. At that moment, someone crawled out from the back door of Class 8. Taewoong and Yeoul stopped walking.

Maybe he was hiding somewhere in the classroom and came out now. As Taewoong looked at the crawling kid, he suddenly stopped as if he felt his gaze. Soon he turned his head so slowly that it was suffocating. Their eyes met.

“Gasp!!”

The kid, whose face was soaked with tears and Taewoong didn’t know who he was, was startled as if he had seen a ghost and fell on his butt. His body, which had leaned back in surprise, hit the back door with a thud!

At the quite loud sound, Taewoong urgently gestured with his hand to run, but the zombies were faster than that.

“Kak!! Ka-gak!!”

“Kaak!!”

“Aa, aaaak!!”

The door only rattled briefly, but the zombies reacted frighteningly and rushed at the student who was frozen in surprise. They bit into the exposed cheeks, neck, and hands of the screaming child. A rough sound like a tiger growling, a chewing sound, and a scream full of pain rang out mixed together. Taewoong and Yeoul, who were watching, froze.

He resolved to beat up the zombies and whatever else if necessary. Yeah, he had resolved… but he couldn’t move at all. Rather, tears were about to come out from surprise and guilt.

“Eung……”

The moment a sound like a sob was about to come out of Yeoul’s mouth, hands from behind covered his mouth. Taewoong, who was half hugging Yeoul from behind, trembled together with Yeoul.

While the two couldn’t do anything and were just shaking, blood pooled thickly on the floor. The zombies who had eaten enough scattered without even wiping the blood and flesh on their mouths, making strange noises.

He didn’t even breathe, hoping it would work. As if that effort had worked, the zombies didn’t rush at the two. They just tilted their heads back and forth while clashing their teeth.

Relief came over. Yeoul’s body, which had been holding his breath, staggered. Taewoong, who had been covering his mouth from behind, hurriedly hugged him tightly.

“Are you okay?”

Strength returned to his body at the whisper-like small murmur and the arms that hugged him tightly as if tying him up. Yeoul swallowed his saliva silently and nodded, then grabbed Taewoong’s left wrist. And he looked at the watch.

Yeoul stared at the watch. Taewoong was about to ask why, but Yeoul raised his remaining hand to stop him and pointed at the child who was bitten by the horde of zombies.

“… K, ka, gak!!”

The zombie that used to be the unknown student of Class 8, whose face was all torn, made a strange sound and wriggled, then struggled on the floor. Soon it raised its body unsteadily. It clashed its teeth that were exposed white.

“…… 6 minutes.”

“Huh?”

“Mhm, nothing. Let’s move now.”

He was surprised and confused, but he checked the time it took to turn into a zombie. Yeoul, who saw the newly created zombie, looked up at Taewoong. Taewoong looked back at him, then looked at the zombie. Instead of answering, he nodded and let go of Yeoul from his arms, and quietly moved his feet that had stopped.

They were delayed for a bit. They crossed the corridor at a slower speed than usual, but at a relatively fast pace. Before long, they arrived at the back door of Class 9.

“…… Crazy.”

When the bell rang, the zombies went crazy. The desks and chairs that were painstakingly stacked were a mess. Taewoong cursed in a voice as small as a whisper at the sight of Class 9 where the space to put his feet had clearly decreased, then made an “Eh?” sound.

“Yeoul-ah, don’t you think there are fewer zombies?”

Am I mistaken? When he asked casually, Yeoul counted the number of zombies walking unsteadily.

“…… You’re right. There are fewer.”
