His body stiffened in surprise. As he clenched his eyes so tightly his eyes crinkled and clenched his fists, he heard a familiar voice. Yeoul cautiously opened one eye.
“You’re not hurt, are you?!”Â
In his field of vision, he saw Taewoong looking up at him worriedly while hugging the soccer ball. Yeoul took a step back and nodded his head awkwardly. Taewoong smiled so wide his teeth showed.
“Great!!”Â
Visibly relieved, he turned his body. Telling one of his soccer friends to kick more carefully, he kicked the ball hard. Yeoul let out a long sigh of relief, then gasped with a start.Â
“…That just now was kind of like a regression!”Â
The situation a little while ago was similar to the first day he met Nam Taewoong! Â
You see, seventeen-year-old Yeoul was introverted. And he wasn’t very interested in the idols, girls, games, or sports that kids these days liked. Because of that, he was left out in his class for the first few months of high school. Â
One day, after quietly spending half his time as an outcast. He stayed late after class to read a book and went home. Â
As always, he was walking towards the front gate with wireless earbuds in, listening to music, when he was suddenly hit hard by something. The strong impact to his temple made him collapse on the spot. Â
‘Huh…?’
His head rang so loudly from the force of the hit. Feeling dizzy, he squeezed his eyes shut then opened them repeatedly. A soccer ball came into view. Â
Ah, I was hit by a flying soccer ball. In the midst of the chaos, he realized what happened, but the dizziness didn’t subside.
In the end, he closed his eyes and groaned in pain. The clamoring noise got closer. Opening his eyes at the commotion, he saw a few boys in gym clothes and uniforms.
‘Hey, did you get hit by the ball?’Â
‘I told you to kick gently!’Â
‘What, did I kick it on purpose?!’Â
They were hit by a ball and collapsed, but instead of apologizing, they were just blaming each other. Feeling a bit annoyed, he sighed. Suddenly, a loud ‘Hey!’ was heard.
‘You crazy bastards, someone got hit by a ball so you should ask if they’re okay first, what are you doing!’Â
Between the arguing boys, a boy wearing a short-sleeved shirt with his long uniform pants roughly rolled up to his knees strode over and held out his hand. Â
‘Are you alright? I told you to be careful when kicking, but you put too much force into it. Sorry. Can you get up?’Â
Unlike the other boys, he seemed genuinely sorry. Yeoul cautiously placed his hand on top of the long hand stretched out close to him. Then, as if he had been waiting, the nameless boy grabbed his hand and pulled him up forcefully.
‘Let’s go to the nurse’s office just in case.’Â
The strong pull made him get up from the ground against his will. The dizziness hit him hard. His nose also felt a bit ticklish.
Is my nose bleeding? As he fumbled above his nose, the boy who helped him up arbitrarily took the backpack Yeoul was carrying and supported him. On top of that, he shouted to his friends gathered around.
‘Hey! I’ll be gone for a bit!’
The boys who were playing soccer together looked serious.Â
“Ah, are you crazy? Tell him to go alone!”
“You’re the striker, what will we do if you leave!” Â
“If you go alone and fall, will you take responsibility? Can you lean on me?”
The boy who stepped up to support him was about a head taller than Yeoul. As Yeoul leaned on him unsteadily from the pulling force, there was a “Yes!” sound from behind.
“Nam Taewoong is out! This is a chance to turn it around!!” Â
He was stunned, wondering if they were really happy that someone got hurt, but fortunately that wasn’t the case. As Yeoul walked as if nothing had happened after being startled, the hand covering his nose was damp. Huh? No way? As he brought his hand closer, as expected, there was red nosebleed on his hand.
“Oh shoot, hey, nosebleed… Wait a minute!”
The book he recently got recommended was so interesting that he stayed up late reading it. Then his head got hit. That seemed to be why his nose was bleeding.Â
It was embarrassing, but fortunately he always carried a handkerchief. As he familiarly tried to take the handkerchief out of his school uniform jacket pocket, the flustered boy took off the t-shirt he was wearing even faster. Â
“Wh, what……”
“Stay still.”
Wh, why is he taking off his clothes all of a sudden? He was so flustered that he couldn’t speak properly. Moreover, the boy’s upper body that was suddenly exposed was completely different from his own, even though they were both guys! So he didn’t know where to look.
Somehow his face flushed and as soon as he avoided eye contact, his head was turned back again. Soon the boy pressed the t-shirt he had hurriedly taken off on Yeoul’s nose without hesitation, and wrapped his other hand around the back of Yeoul’s head to make him lower it. Yeoul blinked and belatedly looked up at the boy who was more than flustered and at a loss for what to do.
“…… Y, you can go.”
“How can I go when you’re bleeding. Can you walk? Ah, want a piggyback ride?!”Â
The boy sat down in front as if he would give a piggyback ride right away. Yeoul was startled.
“Oh, no! It’s okay so get up!”Â
Surprised by the bare back in front of his eyes, he shouted urgently and floundered. The boy looked at him and asked “Really?” as he got up.
“You can get on my back anytime, just tell me.”
“O, okay…….”
As he followed the boy who was supporting him again to the nurse’s office, the nurse who was working was surprised and led him to the bed. As he lay down on the bed as slowly as possible, the boy explained what had happened on his behalf. Â
“Oh my, Nam Taewoong! I knew you’d cause an accident someday.”
“Teacher, I think you’re misunderstanding something, it wasn’t me who did it?” Â
The nurse laughed and glanced at the boy, then went to get medicine. The boy put down Yeoul’s bag he was holding next to the bed and met his eyes.Â
“I’ll keep playing soccer, so call me even if it hurts after taking the medicine. I’ll go to the hospital with you.”
As if asking if he understood, he said “Huh?” and made eye contact, then patted his head. Yeoul was dazed.
The short black hair wet with sweat, the tanned face under the blazing sun, thick eyebrows, the refreshing eyes almost without double eyelids, and the solid-looking physique. The handsome boy who didn’t look very kind at first glance was unexpectedly caring and attentive.Â
As he looked at him in wonder as if seeing an unfamiliar creature, the nurse, who seemed to come to the infirmary often, interfered by slapping the boy’s back loudly and scolding him not to bother.
“Teacher, you only do this to me?! I’ll get going. Make sure to tell me if anything is uncomfortable.”
The boy exaggeratedly pretended to be hurt and left one more apology before leaving.Â
As he watched the back of the leaving boy, it occurred to him that the boy’s name was Nam Taewoong. At the same time, his heart beat faster. Just like that, he fell in love. Â
It’s already been 3 years since he started liking Taewoong that way.Â
Every time he saw him after that day, Taewoong asked several times if he was okay. While Yeoul was briefly lost in memories, the soccer ball that was being moved here and there went to Taewoong. Huh? He quickly focused.
Taewoong, who was timing while playing with the ball with both feet, took a shot.
“Oh, oh!”
“Player Nam Taewoong… scores again!!”
The ball that flew with a bang sound was sucked into the goalpost. Yeoul raised both arms without realizing it.
“Ahh!! So cool!! I love you oppa!!”
“God-Taewoong!!”
Taewoong took off the school vest he was wearing and threw it, running towards his teammates. His friends screamed, hugged Taewoong and jumped up and down.
Taewoong and his friends were very excited. Yeoul looked at Taewoong doing ceremonies with his arms around his friends’ shoulders with satisfied eyes.Â
“The shout……”
How can he be so handsome, run so well, be so good at soccer, and be so full of life. He was thinking he’s really amazing, and Taewoong suddenly turned his head towards Yeoul. Their eyes met with a bang!
He tried to avoid it in a hurry as always, but Taewoong’s eyes widened and he soon grinned. His breath was caught in his throat when he saw the smile without any mental preparation. Yeoul swallowed his breath and sat down weakly.
“Oh my gosh…….”Â
He just smiled but it feels like his heart was shot by the smile. Holding his chest, he got up urgently to look for his mom who should be wrapping up filming by now. After secretly watching Taewoong playing soccer with his friends as if he had never smiled, he opened his eyes wide.
“Okay. Let’s ask if we can see each other for a bit after the graduation ceremony.”Â
