Chapter 7
Would Ha-min be safe?
Would he really be okay?
‘Should I ask him to call when guiding is finished? No. If a call comes in, his concentration will break. And if Shim Woo-jin gets angry because of that, that would be bad…’
After sitting on the bed and worrying for a long time, I couldn’t bring myself to contact him and eventually fell asleep in the early morning still clutching my device.
***
When I woke up, sunlight was streaming through the window.
Realizing I had overslept, I rushed around in a hurry.
I was worried about Ha-min because of Shim Woo-jin.
I was concerned that he might have collapsed from excessive guiding, and also worried whether Woo-jin in a surge state might have assaulted him.
I was even more worried because it seemed like his life could be in danger if something went wrong.
‘He’ll come to the cafeteria, right?’
With that thought, I rushed out frantically, but why were there two S-class Espers in our cafeteria?
When I entered, Byun Tae-young was looking at our food with a horrible expression.
He shook his head repeatedly with a face that seemed to ask how we could eat such things, then stacked his tray on top of Kyun In’s empty tray, who appeared to be having the same dilemma.
Kyun In held both trays in one hand, looked around at the food with a despairing face a bit longer, then just returned to the table and sat down.
‘I haven’t been seen yet. I can just leave now.’
I moved my steps as carefully as possible.
But just then, Kyun In turned his head.
“Oh! It’s Seo Eunwoo!”
I was trying to quietly back out, but this loud-voiced person shouted.
At that moment, Byun Tae-young looked at me.
“Hello?”
Seen in the bright light, his pupils were truly transparent and glossy, with vibrant colors.
Even standing next to the uncommonly handsome Kyun In, his looks weren’t inferior at all.
I didn’t have the presence of mind to look properly the previous evening, but seeing him in bright light, he truly had a dazzling face.
As I looked at his well-shaped eyebrows and beautiful eyes under naturally flowing hair, thinking that Byun Tae-young being called a national treasure must not be solely because of his abilities, Kyun In spoke up.
“Let’s stop this and go to our cafeteria. Anyway, Shim Woo-jin won’t be able to come out until today, and I really can’t eat the food here.”
As he said that, Kyun In tried to grab my hand.
Is he crazy?
When I half-turned my body, Kyun In’s hand grasped at empty air.
Seeing this, Byun Tae-young giggled as if it were amusing.
He seemed to expect Kyun In to make a scene soon, but when Kyun In simply retracted his hand and awkwardly put it in his pocket, Tae-young tilted his head as if finding it strange.
“Hey, Hyung. Why aren’t you throwing a fit?”
At those words, everyone present seemed to freeze.
They seemed to wonder if there was anyone who could say such things to Kyun In and be forgiven, but perhaps it was the dignity of being ranked number one in the world, because far from getting angry, Kyun In even kindly answered.
“You shouldn’t do that to Esper Seo Eunwoo. He won’t play along if you do. Be careful too, Tae-young. Why don’t you ask him to come to our cafeteria and eat together? You know there’s such a thing as beginner’s luck. Since this is your first meeting with Esper Seo Eunwoo, he might listen to you.”
“It’s not our first meeting. We saw each other yesterday too. A lower-ranked Esper was going berserk, and Seo Eunwoo seemed to be telling them to shut up?”
Lower-ranked Esper…
To S-class, even B-class is a lower-ranked Esper, huh.
No, that’s not the issue – when did I tell anyone to shut up?!
“Ah, really? That sounds like Esper Seo Eunwoo. He severely scolded me for playing with the chandelier here. He even said he’d kill me if I did it one more time. I was really scared, Tae-young. Punish Esper Seo Eunwoo a bit.”
Is making up whatever they want a characteristic of S-class Espers?
Thinking that I was getting incredibly tired before even having breakfast, I quickly headed for the exit when they were distracted, but then I heard an energetic voice.
“Eunwoo! Did you wait long?”
It was Ha-min.
“Let’s go to the convenience store.”
I said this as I was leaving, before Ha-min had fully entered the cafeteria.
“Why? Is the line long? Is today’s food bad? No, that can’t be it. I’ve memorized all the menus, and today… Ah…”
Ha-min, who had been chattering excitedly, looked behind me and immediately nodded as if he understood everything.
“Right. The convenience store is better.”
This guy also seemed to have rushed out as soon as he woke up, but he didn’t have any puffiness at all, and how could his eyes be so dazzling?
Is the world allowed to be this unfair?
We headed straight to the convenience store while continuing to talk.
“Wasn’t it hard yesterday? I heard all the dungeons that appeared yesterday were difficult to conquer. Are you not hurt, Eunwoo? Did you receive guiding well? Even if it’s annoying, you must receive guiding. It can be really dangerous if you don’t receive guiding.”
“Yes. You don’t need to worry. But are you okay, Ha-min?”
“I’m fine. Yesterday, I only had to guide Esper Shim Woo-jin, so it was completely comfortable.”
“Really? I guess it’s usually annoying?”
“Yes. It’s certainly a bit annoying to have to do three.”
The one who asked that was Byun Tae-young, but Ha-min, completely unaware, answered energetically before speaking to me again.
I was going to tell him, but there wasn’t even time for that.
“The tuna kimbap sells out early, so I need to run. No matter where I go, nothing seems as delicious as the tuna kimbap from our convenience store. Hurry up and come too, Eunwoo.”
Saying that without even looking back, Ha-min ran off enthusiastically, and Byun Tae-young clicked his tongue watching him.
“To say such things and not feel any impact at all.”
Come to think of it, that was true.
“We can’t just leave it like this.”
Kyun In said and dashed off, and I followed the two of them to prevent him from bullying Ha-min.
However, when I actually saw the two of them, what was happening was a bit ambiguous.
By the time I arrived, Kyun In was boldly paying for all the tuna kimbap that he had placed on the counter right in front of Ha-min’s eyes.
It seemed he had bought them all so Ha-min couldn’t buy any.
Seeing this, Ha-min made an unbelievable expression and furrowed his eyebrows.
“Are you going to eat all of these, Esper-nim? Can’t you leave just one? I really like tuna kimbap…”
“I like it too.”
“Are you really going to eat all of these?”
“Yes. I’m going to eat them all.”
As the employee put them in a bag, they mentioned there were thirty-six rolls.
I was thinking how childish could a person be, but I never expected it would be a way to tug at Ha-min’s heartstrings.
Meanwhile, Byun Tae-young grabbed a handful of lollipops, placed them on the counter, and gave one to Ha-min.
“Eat it.”
The calculation wasn’t finished yet, but the employee couldn’t say anything.
“The calculation isn’t finished yet. You should give it after paying.”
When I said this, Kyun In smiled as if he’d won.
“See that, Tae-young? I told you to be careful with Esper Seo Eunwoo.”
Then, after waiting for the calculation to finish, he proudly offered a roll of kimbap to Ha-min.
“Eat it.”
Ha-min took one roll of kimbap with a gloomy face.
He didn’t seem to want to receive his favorite tuna kimbap this way.
He would have to beg each time he wanted another roll, so he wouldn’t have liked the situation.
I still couldn’t believe Kyun In had done such a thing.
In the novel, he seemed to have acted much more cruelly and meanly than this, so I was a bit confused whether this was bullying or not.
“The sandwiches are delicious too, Ha-min. Bacon sandwich. Let’s eat that.”
Seeing how disappointed he looked, I suggested an alternative to Ha-min.
“Are you going to eat that too, Eunwoo…?”
“Yes.”
With that, now it was Kyun In who became flustered.
What was he going to do with thirty-six rolls of tuna kimbap alone?
“T-Today, eat kimbap. Pl…ease, Ha-min.”
Kyun In finally raised the white flag.
Is he this easy to deal with?
Should I make him kneel too?
Ha-min looked at me as if saying let’s forgive him just this once, and I reluctantly nodded.
Kyun In, who had placed thirty-six rolls of kimbap on the table under the parasol outside the convenience store, kept grumbling to us about raising our standards in the future.
Saying that since you never know what might happen in this world, people should always think of the meal they’re eating as their last meal.
I wanted to eat comfortably just among ourselves if possible, but it seemed I would have to give up on that.
Ha-min must have been serious about tuna kimbap, because he ate it with such enthusiasm.
I thought thirty-six rolls might be too many, but such thoughts were unnecessary.
“Isn’t it delicious, Eunwoo?”
Yeah. It is tasty.
Kyun In brought a canned drink next to Ha-min.
Using telekinesis.
What a waste of ability.
“Shouldn’t this be warmed up before drinking? Shall I heat it for you?”
Beside him was Byun Tae-young, who seemed desperate to not waste his talent.
“Esper Shim Woo-jin’s wave levels have stabilized now.”
Ha-min seemed to think he should say something in the awkward atmosphere, but no one appeared interested in that topic.
Ha-min, as if he had expected this, went back to eating kimbap.
He ate so well, it was a pleasure to watch.
When he stuffed the thickly rolled kimbap into his mouth and chewed, his bulging cheeks gradually became slender.
Byun Tae-young seemed to want to stick a lollipop in that mouth quickly and kept watching for the right timing.
Whenever Ha-min picked up a new kimbap roll, he would look disappointed, which made me a bit confused about whether they were really bad Espers to Ha-min.
