Chapter 62

Seeing that it was about time, Song Wangzhuo remembered Shen Yuqing had insisted on taking a nap. He said, “I’ll take the guest room. You can rest in the master bedroom.”

Shen Yuqing let out an “ah” and, too lazy to dwell on it, nodded. “Alright, I’ll go sleep for a bit. What about you?”

Song Wangzhuo replied, “I’ll rest too.”

During this season, skipping a midday nap often led to drowsiness in the afternoon.

Shen Yuqing yawned and nodded before heading into the room.

Song Wangzhuo was a step slower. First, he tidied up the test papers and textbooks on the table before retreating to his own room.

Though it was the guest room, it was as large as the combined living room and kitchen of his previous apartment, and the location was excellent.

Having spent the entire previous day delivering orders and returning late, he was genuinely tired now that he was near the bed.

Song Wangzhuo set an alarm, placed his phone aside, and peacefully drifted off to sleep.

Meanwhile, in the master bedroom next door—

Shen Yuqing flopped onto the soft bed, rolling around twice. Xiao Zhao had arranged for the place to be cleaned after renting it, so all the bedding was fresh and new.

Burying his face in the pillow, his eyelids grew heavier by the second. Still, he managed to mumble, “Remember to wake me up. Don’t oversleep.”

The system was speechless. Was it some kind of high-tech alarm clock now?

But plot points didn’t care whether Shen Yuqing was sleepy or not. Just as he was about to lose half an hour of chess with the Sandman, the next plot point emerged—this time, involving Pei Yiyan.

**[Pei Yiyan lay in the hospital bed. After being pushed into the fountain, the back of his head had struck the edge, and he had remained submerged for a long time with no one coming to his aid.

At that moment, he knew someone must have given orders. Otherwise, not even a single servant would have passed by.

Finally, mustering his willpower, he managed to drag himself to the edge. Only then did his so-called family and fiancé belatedly arrive and rush him to the hospital.

Having been submerged for so long, his wound had been exposed to dirty water and became infected. He had been bedridden for nearly half a month, and only today did he feel slightly better.

By his bedside, his uncle rambled on, “Yiyan, I’ve already replaced all the servants at home. When you return, there’ll be absolutely no oversights like this again.”

The incident hadn’t been the servants’ fault they all knew that. Yet, it was brushed aside with a single sentence, and the real culprits faced no consequences whatsoever.

Pei Yiyan opened his eyes, but darkness still filled his vision. The wound on the back of his head, nearly healed, inexplicably throbbed with pain again.

Pei Yiyan said, “In that case, thank you, Uncle.”

Uncle Pei smiled faintly. “No need for thanks. You’re my nephew, helping you is only natural.”

Then, he pulled a contract from his briefcase. “Yiyan, I’d like to ask for your help too. The company’s shares are undergoing major redistributions. If I recall correctly, you still hold the 5% Grandfather left you. Since it’s of no use to you, why not sell it to me? Don’t worry I won’t shortchange you. I’ll buy it at double the market price.”

Though he claimed he wouldn’t take advantage, he had already prepared the red ink paste. “Given your current condition, signing might be difficult, so a fingerprint will suffice.”**

With that, he signaled with his eyes to the two lawyers who had come with him and said coldly, “Hold him down.”

In the Pei family, known for being ruthless and merciless, how could they possibly have come with genuine goodwill to see him?

After reading this plot point, Shen Yuqing couldn’t help but want to curse. What the hell was this?

The most authentic business warfare often employs the simplest methods!

Is there no law and order anymore?

[Since this plot point doesn’t involve you, Host, you can choose whether or not to go,] the system said. [However, Pei Yiyan’s darkening value is estimated to increase by ten points.]

Damn it.

Shen Yuqing once again felt the urge to swear. Ten points?

He was wide awake now. If Pei Yiyan’s darkening value increased by ten points in one go, wouldn’t that mean all their progress would be wiped out?

Shen Yuqing immediately sprang out of bed. At this moment, he felt like his resentment alone could sustain hundreds of evil sword immortals.

Pei Yiyan’s darkening value! No one is allowed to touch it!!!

*Hospital.

Xiao Zhao tidied up the hospital room. Wu Yi had gone home for the day, leaving only him to take care of Pei Yiyan.

Coincidentally, a nurse came to call Xiao Zhao to pick up some medicine. He turned on the TV to the financial channel Pei Yiyan often watched and, after letting him know, closed the door and left.

The window in the room was half-covered, but the room was still quite bright.

Pei Yiyan leaned back on the bed, turning his head to look out the window at the scenery outside. After a few minutes, he closed his eyes to rest them.

His eyes had been examined by a familiar doctor, who said that the recent two accidental impacts might have dislodged the blood clots pressing on them.

Though it sounded a bit absurd, it was just one of those strange twists of fate his vision had indeed returned.

However, having spent years in darkness, his eyes couldn’t handle the sudden exposure to light. The doctor advised him to look at the scenery outside whenever possible and rest his eyes when they grew tired.

With gradual practice, they would soon recover to their former state.

Not only that, but his recent physical rehabilitation had also improved the flexibility of his legs.

Back in the Pei family, no one had cared for him. Now, in the Shen family, he was actually given more support for his recovery.

Pei Yiyan thought to himself—even Shen Yuqing had become easier to get along with. Were the heavens finally turning his luck around?

The door to the room opened. Assuming it was Xiao Zhao returning, he said, “Xiao Zhao, turn off the TV. I’m feeling a bit tired.”

Only Wu Yi and the doctor knew about his regained vision, and Pei Yiyan had no intention of revealing it just yet.

“My dear nephew, still keeping up with financial news even at a time like this, huh?”

The voice didn’t belong to Xiao Zhao.

Pei Yiyan slowly opened his eyes, his gaze shifting to the newcomer. It was his uncle, Pei.

Behind him stood two burly alphas, clearly here with ill intentions.

Pei Yiyan said calmly, “What brings you here today, Uncle?”

Xiao Zhao had told him that after the incident where he was pushed into the fountain, Shen Yuqing had instructed that if any Pei family members came to reconcile or deliver gifts, they were to be sent away immediately.

Pei Yiyan’s gaze startled his uncle for a moment it almost felt as if he had been seen through. But then he dismissed the thought. After all, this was just a blind man.

He pulled out the chair beside the hospital bed and sat down, then jerked his chin toward the two alphas, signaling them to move to the other side.

The three of them effectively surrounded Pei Yiyan in the center.

Pei Yiyan sneered inwardly.

Uncle Pei said, “Finished with work today, so I thought I’d drop by to see how you’re recovering.”

He glanced around the hospital room with disdain. “Why hasn’t the Shen family assigned you a servant? Leaving you here all alone.”

Pei Yiyan replied, “The servant went to fetch my medication.”

Uncle Pei let out a drawn-out “Oh” in understanding. “I see.”

After some idle small talk, Pei Yiyan leaned back against the bed. “Uncle, you didn’t come just to check on me, did you?”

Uncle Pei smiled. “Yiyan, nothing gets past you. There is indeed something I wanted to discuss with you today.”

Pei Yiyan remained silent as Uncle Pei continued, “The company is convening a board meeting soon.”

Pei Yiyan already knew about this. Wu had briefed him earlier on the reasons behind it.

The Pei Group had been on a steady decline in recent years, but thanks to its solid foundation and reputation, it still managed to secure lucrative projects.

His cousin had recently been working on a high-stakes bid for a government-backed interstellar development project a golden opportunity that promised substantial long-term profits.

The Pei Group had poured all its resources into this venture, only to lose the bid at the last moment.

Everyone was baffled. Their offer had been unbeatable no other company should have been able to outmatch them. But upon investigation, it turned out his cousin had been seduced by an Omega the night before the bid.

That Omega, sent by a rival company, had secretly photographed the documents in his cousin’s briefcase while he slept.

Armed with insider knowledge, the competitor adjusted their bid and effortlessly snatched the project.

The board was furious and demanded his cousin’s immediate dismissal.

But Pei Yiyan’s uncle, the current head of the Pei Group would never allow it. He was counting on his son to take over after his retirement. If his cousin were fired now, what future would there be?
