Chapter 28

The doctor’s words caused even the usually composed beta servant to glance at them momentarily before quickly saying, “It’s getting late, let me escort you downstairs!”

The doctor nodded. “Alright.”

With that, the two swiftly left, leaving only the two of them behind.

Pei Yiyan had naturally heard what the doctor said—release.

They were all adults, and after differentiation, specialized teachers had thoroughly covered this topic—how to bite during a rut, how to infuse pheromones, how to soothe one’s partner. Everything was crystal clear.

Upon hearing it, Pei Yiyan felt his glandular teeth actually lengthening slightly, an unbearable itch and an overwhelming urge to sink them into something surging to its peak.

This drug was terrifying. Even he was struggling to control himself.

Clenching his jaw, he turned to grope his way toward the bathroom for a cold shower to suppress the strange, scorching heat in his body. But the next second, someone grabbed his wrist.

The person’s body temperature was just as feverish as his, yet the touch of their hand offered a sliver of solace.

Without a word, Shen Yuqing pulled him toward the bedroom.

Pei Yiyan reacted instantly, wrenching his hand free and snapping, “What do you think you’re doing?”

Though his tone was sharp, given his current state and the swollen bump on his forehead, it held little intimidation for Shen Yuqing.

Shen Yuqing retorted, “Didn’t you hear the doctor? You need to release it!”

Pei Yiyan gritted his molars. Whether it was the drug or something else, his emotions today were far from their usual steadiness. “What does that have to do with you?” he shot back.

He then tried again to find the bathroom from memory, but Shen Yuqing seized his wrist once more—this time prepared, gripping him tightly without letting go.

Half-dragging, half-pulling, Shen Yuqing hauled him into… the gym!

The gym was always disinfected after use, and Pei Yiyan caught the sharp scent of antiseptic—definitely not the bedroom.

Then he heard Shen Yuqing say, “I’ll turn on the treadmill. You’re going to run!”

This was the quickest solution he could think of. Release? How else could it happen without movement?

With a cold snort, as if seeing right through Pei Yiyan’s earlier thoughts, he added, “If a cold shower could fix this, why would the doctor tell you to release it?”

Recalling Pei Yiyan’s stubborn resistance, he couldn’t help but comment, “You’re so damn obstinate!”

For once, Pei Yiyan was left speechless. Why hadn’t he said so earlier?

The faint hum of the treadmill starting up reached his ears—Shen Yuqing had really turned it on.

Pei Yiyan felt Shen Yuqing take his wrist again, guiding him onto the machine. After a brief hesitation, he complied, trusting him in this moment.

Shen Yuqing set the speed low at first, gradually increasing it only after Pei Yiyan adjusted. To avoid falling, Pei Yiyan had no choice but to grit his teeth and run.

Shen Yuqing watched him closely from the side, quietly exhaling in relief.

Thank goodness he’d thought fast.

He was just too brilliant!

Instead, the system in his mind let out a faint sigh.

All his forced scenarios, his SM elements, his fade-to-black scenes—gone.

Yet, the system somehow felt this was for the best. If things had really gone according to the plot points with those implied, unspeakable fade-to-black moments, it would have probably fainted from shock, wondering if it had switched hosts.

While Pei Yiyan was venting his frustrations, Shen Yuqing finally had time to ask the system what the hell was going on.

The system replied: [Host, you know how it is—sometimes things just go wrong by sheer coincidence.]

Shen Yuqing scoffed coldly: [You call this massive screw-up a coincidence?!]

If he had come out of the shower just a little later, that spiked water would have ended up in his stomach!

The system knew it was at fault and quickly said: [Host, please don’t be angry. You know that ever since we entered this world, my energy has been running dangerously low. Sometimes… small mistakes do happen.]

Here we go again.

It always said the same thing!

Shen Yuqing felt nothing but exasperation. This was supposed to be a battle fought together, yet in the end, he was the only one doing any real work!

Shen Yuqing snapped: [Useless!]

The system accepted the scolding—it knew it hadn’t been much help, but at least it could still provide some support!

It said: [Host, I can still be useful! I can scan Pei Yiyan’s current condition!]

Shen Yuqing stayed silent, tacitly allowing the scan.

A few seconds later, the system panicked: [Host, bad news!]

Before it could finish, Pei Yiyan suddenly collapsed off the treadmill. Just before losing consciousness, he seemed to catch a glimpse of the figure beside him—then everything went black.

Shen Yuqing’s brain hadn’t even processed what was happening, but his body reacted instantly. He lunged forward and caught Pei Yiyan, only to lose his balance and topple backward.

In the end, he became Pei Yiyan’s human cushion, landing hard on his tailbone.

A dull pain shot through him, but he had no time to dwell on it—especially as the system finally blurted out its last words.

[The protagonist is about to pass out.]

Shen Yuqing roared: [Why don’t you wait until he’s dead to tell me?!]

The system didn’t dare respond and immediately went silent.

Gritting his teeth, Shen Yuqing rolled Pei Yiyan off himself. The man’s entire body was flushed an even deeper red now, his forehead slick with sweat, his lips deathly pale—he really did look like he was on the verge of kicking the bucket.

Shen Yuqing shook him, shouting his name, then checked his pulse. Only after confirming that he had merely fainted, just as the system said, did he finally exhale in relief.

But he still needed to get him to a hospital.

Shen Yuqing scrambled up and rushed to the bedroom to grab his communicator, calling for an ambulance—only to be told all units were dispatched, and the soonest arrival would be in forty minutes.

Forty minutes?! By then, the man would be cold!

The servants were still escorting the doctor and hadn’t returned yet, and no one was answering their calls. Left with no choice, Shen Yuqing hauled Pei Yiyan onto his back and carried him downstairs, hoping to flag down a taxi.

Thankfully, the system finally proved somewhat useful—it used the last of its energy to temporarily boost Shen Yuqing’s strength. Otherwise, no matter how strong he was, carrying a full-grown alpha would have been nearly impossible.

The moment he reached the ground floor, he ran straight into the beta servant who was about to leave.

The servant gasped in shock: “Young Master, what happened?!”

Shen Yuqing simply said, “He fainted.”

Just how intense had it been for him to pass out like this?

Was Young Master Pei perhaps a bit too…

He didn’t dare dwell on it further and quickly offered, “Young Master, let me carry him.”

But Shen Yuqing refused. “No need. Go upstairs and pack Pei Yiyan’s things. I’ll take him to the hospital first.”

The servant nodded. “Understood!”

Shen Yuqing took a deep breath and adjusted Pei Yiyan on his back before heading out again.

Honestly, he had been worrying himself sick over Pei Yiyan!

“Mmm—”

The man on his back showed slight signs of regaining consciousness. Shen Yuqing shifted his shoulder and asked breathlessly, “Pei Yiyan, how are you feeling?”

Still dazed, Pei Yiyan only managed a faint murmur—”It hurts”—before slipping back into unconsciousness.

He must really be in pain. Under normal circumstances, he would never admit something like that.
