Chapter 27

Hearing Shen Yuqing’s words, the Omega’s face paled momentarily—could he have found out?

Impossible… He clearly hadn’t drunk that glass of water, and he had already destroyed all the evidence. Even if they searched, they wouldn’t find anything.

Over the past few days, he had thoroughly familiarized himself with the house. Apart from the obvious surveillance camera operating in the living room, there were none elsewhere. Even if Shen Yuqing reviewed the footage from the living room, it wouldn’t be of much use.

The Omega’s expression steadied slightly. Shen Yuqing had clearly been bluffing—claiming there was a camera in the kitchen to throw him off balance. Luckily, he had remained composed, revealing nothing!

The beta servant had gone to retrieve the computer to check the surveillance, while the doctor was still examining Pei Yiyan in the bedroom. The living room was now empty except for the two of them.

The Omega immediately put on a pitiful act. With his delicate features and Omega status, his reddened eyes made him look especially vulnerable. “Young Master Shen,” he asked, “have you misunderstood something?”

If it were anyone else, they might have reconsidered whether they had indeed misjudged the situation upon seeing his demeanor. But Shen Yuqing was different.

For one, he had the advantage of foresight. Moreover, he was straightforward by nature. In his eyes, though the man before him was somewhat frail, his constant sniveling was nothing short of exasperating. If not for waiting for this crucial plot point, he would have sent him packing long ago.

Shen Yuqing remained entirely unmoved by the Omega’s display of weakness. Previously, he had wondered why this Omega, supposedly sent by the Pei family to care for Pei Yiyan, had been overly “enthusiastic” toward him instead.

Back then, he had privately joked to himself—was this Omega actually after him? Now, the truth was out. He really had been.

“Misunderstood what? There’s no misunderstanding. We’ll know soon enough.” Shen Yuqing couldn’t be bothered to waste more words on the Omega. Just then, the beta servant returned with the computer.

“Young Master,” the servant said, “we’ve found it.”

Holding the computer with both hands, he stood beside Shen Yuqing and played the recently extracted footage from the kitchen surveillance. The recording clearly captured the Omega slipping something into the drink and then destroying the evidence.

Shen Yuqing scoffed. “Call the police.”

The servant replied, “Already done. They’ll be here shortly.”

The Omega stubbornly persisted, “Young Master Shen—”

The mere sound of that address made Shen Yuqing’s head throb. He tilted his chin, signaling the servant to show the Omega the footage.

Understanding, the servant turned the screen toward the Omega with a cold expression and replayed the clip. The kitchen surveillance was in high definition—every move he had made was unmistakably recorded. How was this possible?!

There couldn’t have been a camera in the kitchen!

Instinctively, he reached out to snatch the computer, but the servant icily stated, “A backup has already been sent to President Shen.”

Even if he smashed this computer now, it would be pointless.

The Omega’s face drained completely of color. He could barely stand, his legs trembling. Deep down, he had always known the Shen family was not to be trifled with. Yet when the Pei family assigned him this mission, he had agreed anyway.

Shen Yuqing didn’t spare him another glance, turning directly to return to the bedroom to check on Pei Yiyan’s condition. But he hadn’t taken more than two steps when someone suddenly grabbed him from behind in a tight embrace.

The Omega pleaded earnestly, “Young Master Shen! I was just momentarily confused, please forgive me this once. Everything I did was because I like you—I fell deeply in love with you from our first meeting… I just had a momentary lapse in judgment and made the wrong choice!”

Shen Yuqing felt goosebumps rising all over his skin. He quickly pushed the Omega away and turned around, about to speak, when he saw the Omega rushing forward to embrace him again.

Startled, Shen Yuqing hastily retreated several steps, eventually bumping into someone. He turned his head to see Pei Yiyan, his entire body flushed red.

The inhibitor seemed to have helped Pei Yiyan somewhat—he appeared slightly better than before, though a red bump on his forehead made him look rather comical.

He was still wearing the pajamas from earlier, the buttons undone, exposing most of his chest. In his feverish state, he hadn’t even realized his disheveled appearance.

The inhibitor had barely restored a sliver of clarity to his mind when he heard noises from outside. With his acute hearing, he quickly pieced together the situation from their conversation.

So it was that troublesome person the Pei family had sent over.

Pei Yiyan forced himself up to handle the matter personally. The doctor, being just an employee who didn’t dare interfere, followed him out.

Being blind, Pei Yiyan hadn’t been noticed by Shen Yuqing, leading to their collision.

Shen Yuqing felt a strong arm wrap tightly around his waist; his back pressed firmly against Pei Yiyan’s chest. Even through the thin fabric, he could feel Pei Yiyan’s scorching body temperature.

Hmm… like a ball of fire.

Moreover, their current position seemed somewhat intimate—as if Pei Yiyan was affectionately holding him from behind, preventing him from leaving.

Frowning, Shen Yuqing instinctively tried to step aside to separate himself from Pei Yiyan, but found the grip unexpectedly tight. His attempt to move was unsuccessful.

Fortunately, Pei Yiyan seemed to realize something and loosened his hold.

The Omega didn’t dare approach now that Pei Yiyan had appeared. Though this young master was practically insignificant in the Pei family, he was still a master after all.

Pei Yiyan’s voice was icy: “Who sent you?”

Though blind, the commanding presence of someone long accustomed to authority naturally emerged when he was serious. The Omega shivered, not daring to utter another word.

Shen Yuqing raised an eyebrow beside them. Well, well—so someone was behind this! He’d been wondering why an Omega would be so forward when most preferred alphas these days. That “love at first sight” was clearly just an excuse.

After all, according to the intelligence network, while the Shen family young master played around—mostly with alphas—no one could resist an Omega’s advances.

“Ding dong—”

The doorbell rang. A beta servant went to answer it—it was the police.

This was an academic district, and to protect these interstellar flowers, security here was the tightest.

Seeing the police arrive, Omega turned deathly pale and immediately knelt beside Pei Yiyan’s legs, clutching them as he pleaded, “Young Master, please spare me this once! I’ll never dare do it again, I beg you! Please put in a good word for me with Young Master Shen!”

But he was quickly hauled up by the officers and handcuffed. Though he kept crying for the young master’s mercy, there wasn’t an ounce of remorse in his heart—only relentless calculations.

Where had he slipped up?

He’d carefully inspected the kitchen multiple times and never spotted any surveillance. Yet the footage clearly showed a camera’s perspective from the kitchen. That angle…

That angle seemed to come from above the refrigerator.

Suddenly it hit him—the row of small figurines placed atop the fridge!

They’d hidden covert cameras inside the figurines!

After all his meticulous planning, he’d never expected to be tripped up here!

Omega glared venomously at Shen Yuqing. When he’d first taken this assignment, they’d told him Shen Yuqing was just a spoiled, pleasure-seeking fool—that seducing someone like him would be child’s play!

As Omega was dragged away by the police, the beta gave a brief statement, arranging to visit the station properly the next morning. After seeing off the officers,

The living room grew much quieter, with only Pei Yiyan’s increasingly ragged breathing audible.

Shen Yuqing was still questioning his system about what exactly had happened when he noticed Pei Yiyan’s condition. Setting that aside for now, he stepped forward and asked, “Didn’t you say the suppressants would help?”

Why did he still look so unwell?

Just then, the doctor arrived and explained, “Young Master Pei has entered a pseudo-heat cycle. Suppressants can only provide auxiliary relief. To recover more quickly, he’ll need to…”

He paused, then stated professionally, “He’ll need to release it.”

Shen Yuqing’s brain short-circuited.
