Chapter 20

In the end, Shen Yuqing still gave in.

Fortunately, the bed was big enough that it didn’t matter.

Once he got into bed, he immediately immersed himself in his game again. After washing his hands, Pei Yiyan lay down with his back turned to Shen Yuqing.

Shen Yuqing was actually quite quiet when gaming. Back when he lived in the dorms, he had roommates who would stay up late playing games and get overly excited—he absolutely hated being disturbed by that kind of noise.

Even though he knew it wouldn’t matter if he made a little more noise, he still instinctively kept his movements light.

Today, Pei Yiyan seemed to be in an especially good mood because of the cat. Earlier, before Shen Yuqing had even come out, he had received an alert about fluctuations in the blackening value.

For some reason, Pei Yiyan’s blackening value had already dropped to 70. It felt like he didn’t even need to intervene—the cat alone could save this world!

If Pei Yiyan could be swayed like this… then did Song Wangzhuo like cats too?

Shen Yuqing really wanted to ask outright: Hey, protagonist, the “cats saving the world” campaign is in full swing—want one?

Or maybe he preferred other animals? A puppy would work too!

Before going to sleep, Shen Yuqing pulled up the data on both male leads again.

Not bad, not bad. Things were moving in a positive direction for both.

But when he looked at Song Wangzhuo’s data, his brows furrowed again.

The morning after next… what could he do about that?

He closed his eyes, his mind racing wildly, until at some point, he drifted off to sleep without realizing it.

On the other side of the bed, Pei Yiyan slowly opened his eyes. Even though he knew Shen Yuqing had been acting like a completely different person these past couple of days—no longer erratic—he still found it hard to relax and fall asleep early while sharing a bed with him.

Only after the steady breathing of both the man and the cat filled the room did he close his eyes again.

Now, he could finally sleep peacefully.

The next morning.

By the time Shen Yuqing woke up, Pei Yiyan was no longer in the bedroom. After getting ready, he stepped out and found Pei Yiyan in the study, where a newly hired instructor was helping him with his rehabilitation.

It’s so early—the instructor’s already here?

Shen Yuqing yawned, then quickly devoured his breakfast at the dining table. Just then, the system chimed in:

[That new instructor is one of Pei Yiyan’s people.]

That perked him up. Pei Yiyan’s person?

[Then why didn’t he send him to the Shen residence earlier?] Shen Yuqing wondered.

[The Shen residence is secure, but there are too many eyes around. Now that you’ve moved out, with only him and two servants at home, it’s much more convenient.]

Ah, so that’s why.

No wonder Pei Yiyan had agreed to move here together—he had been planning this all along.

But Shen Yuqing just kept the thought to himself. Pei Yiyan could do whatever he wanted. As long as the blackening value didn’t rise, even if he filled this apartment with a hundred of his trusted subordinates, Shen Yuqing would pretend not to notice.

After eating his fill, he didn’t rush to leave. Instead, he headed to the study, mostly to satisfy his own curiosity.

The study door was left open, so he could see inside just by passing by.

When Shen Yuqing walked in, the instructor was still explaining some of his plans and arrangements—he seemed quite professional.

Shen Yuqing said, “There’s a fitness room next door. You can do the rehab exercises there.”

The instructor, Wu Yi, was a tall, broad-shouldered alpha.

Wu Yi nodded. “Understood, Mr. Shen. Don’t worry—Mr. Pei’s physical condition is excellent. I believe it won’t be long before he can walk freely and regain his vision.”

Shen Yuqing waved a hand dismissively. “Do well, and you’ll be rewarded.”

He glanced at Pei Yiyan once more. “I’m leaving.”

Wu Yi quickly responded, “Take care on your way out.”

Only after confirming Shen Yuqing had left did Wu Yi mutter under his breath, “Young master, this Shen Yuqing seems quite different from before.”

His entire demeanor had changed.

Pei Yiyan replied indifferently, “What does that have to do with you?”

Wu Yi hastily shook his head. “Nothing. Let’s start your rehabilitation.”

During yesterday’s hospital check-up, the doctor had indeed emphasized strengthening his physical condition and regular rehabilitation exercises for his leg to recover properly.

No one in the Pei family wanted him to regain normalcy, so they naturally disapproved of his rehabilitation efforts. The Shen family might have been an option, but their strict protocols made it impossible for Wu Yi to infiltrate.

That’s why Pei Yiyan had agreed so readily when the suggestion to move out was made. He had been out of touch with Wu Yi for too long, and after yesterday’s check-up, he finally had a valid reason to summon him directly.

The only complication was that Omega.

He needed to find a way to keep him occupied.

As he pondered this, a beta servant entered with a plate of cut fruit.

“Master Pei, the young master mentioned wanting steamed crab for lunch today. Xiao Zhao and I need to make a trip outside and will be back in about an hour. Is there anything else you need prepared before we go?”

The crab request was timely. Pei Yiyan replied, “Since you’re going out, pick up some cakes as well. The weather’s nice today—I feel like something sweet.”

He named a specific bakery. The round trip alone would take over an hour, and with other errands, they wouldn’t return for at least two hours.

The beta servant nodded. “Of course. If you need anything else, you can contact me via my communicator.”

Pei Yiyan gave a slight nod. “Mm.”

Meanwhile, Shen Yuqing idly kicked a small pebble he’d found along the way.

[Do you think one morning is enough for Pei Yiyan and Wu Yi to talk things through?] he asked.

Before leaving, Shen Yuqing had considered Pei Yiyan’s situation. Summoning Wu Yi now was undoubtedly about reclaiming what was rightfully his, especially with the Pei Corporation in such a tense power struggle. The sooner he regained control, the better.

Shen Yuqing was willing to help with that. By the time they returned with the seafood and finished cleaning and preparing it, that Omega likely wouldn’t have any opportunity to bother Pei Yiyan all morning.

The system responded: [Pei Yiyan will definitely start executing his plans now. Wu Yi’s visits will become more frequent.]

So for added security, they needed to expel the Pei family’s spies from the household as soon as possible.

Shen Yuqing felt like he was juggling too many problems at once—no sooner had one issue been addressed than another cropped up. Day after day, nothing ever seemed to settle down. He sighed.

Then, suddenly, a brilliant idea struck him!

The system, noticing Shen Yuqing’s sudden cheerfulness, was baffled and quickly logged off to enter sleep mode.

“Qing-ge!”

Hearing his name, Shen Yuqing turned to see Lin Sui. He hadn’t seen much of Lin Sui lately. Waiting for him to catch up, Shen Yuqing noticed his limp and asked, “What happened to your leg? You’re walking funny.”

Lin Sui gritted his teeth. “It’s nothing.”

In truth, he’d overexerted himself the past few days, leaving his legs sore and aching.

But the coach said it gets better after the initial phase.

Shen Yuqing nodded. “Take care of yourself.”

Seeing Lin Sui reminded him of that alpha again. He asked, “By the way, who was that person who played the wine-splashing game with us last time?”

Lin Sui replied, “Oh, him? He’s from the Wang family, Wang Nan. A few months younger than both of us. Why do you suddenly ask about him?”

Shen Yuqing kept a straight face and said, “No reason, just remembered him but realized I don’t actually know him.”

Lin Sui didn’t think much of it. “That guy’s quite something. Want me to invite him out for a gathering?”

Shen Yuqing shook his head. “No need.”

He had no intention of interacting with someone who had shifted the blame onto him!
