Chapter 15

At noon, Shen Yuqing finished class feeling tired. He packed up his things and dragged his knowledge-soaked body out of the classroom. Now that he had moved near the academy, he didn’t have to worry about what to eat for lunch—there was already food prepared at home.

At this time, they were probably waiting for him.

Thinking of how Pei Yiyan had sat on the sofa waiting for him last night, Shen Yuqing couldn’t help but walk a little faster. He still wasn’t used to someone waiting for him like that, whether it was sincere or just for show.

Just as he reached the school gate, he got a message from the smart system.

He opened it and saw it was from the pet hospital:

[Good Luck no longer needs to stay in the hospital. He can rest at home. When would you like to pick him up?]

Shen Yuqing had planned to visit after lunch, but he didn’t expect the discharge to come so soon. The efficiency in this interstellar world really was something else.

He hesitated for a moment and asked:
[Is Pei Yiyan allergic to fur?]

The system replied:
[No allergies.]

Shen Yuqing felt relieved. He had mainly been worried about allergies. The trauma from his last life was still fresh in his mind.

He replied decisively:
[I just finished class. I’ll come now.]

Shen Yuqing was a fast and efficient person. Once he made the decision, he quickly placed a large order for cat supplies using the “Instant Buy” feature. The delivery would arrive in about thirty minutes.

He headed to the hospital. Good Luck had indeed become livelier under the care of the staff. Though his injured leg was still wrapped in gauze, his energy had clearly improved.

Shen Yuqing had visited him several times over the past few days. Good Luck also seemed to understand that this gentle god had saved him. As soon as he saw Shen Yuqing, he would meow sweetly.

Shen Yuqing bought some transition cat food from the hospital and happily carried the cat home.

By the time he got home, the supplies he had ordered half an hour ago had already arrived. Although the servants didn’t understand what everything was for, they had already opened and disinfected them.

As Shen Yuqing entered, he asked,
“Has he eaten?”

The servant replied,
“Young Master Pei said he would wait for you to come back and eat together.”

Just as expected.

Shen Yuqing nodded, showing he understood.

Pei Yiyan was listening to the TV. The noise Shen Yuqing made when he came in was not small—Pei Yiyan had noticed him long ago. Before that, he’d even overheard the servants saying Shen Yuqing had bought a lot of things.

His hands, resting at his sides, tightened slightly.
What else could Shen Yuqing have bought?
It must be something meant for him.

Pei Yiyan suddenly felt he had been foolish. Just because Shen Yuqing had been gentle for the past two days, he’d actually thought maybe the other had really changed.

He listened to the footsteps approaching and quickly returned to his calm expression. He was about to stand up when he heard Shen Yuqing say:

“Stay seated.”

Pei Yiyan paused, then quietly stayed where he was.

Shen Yuqing’s thoughts were simple. Since he was out at class during the day, and Pei Yiyan stayed home most of the time, the cat would definitely be spending a lot of time with him. They needed to get used to each other.

Good Luck had just taken a nap in the carrier. When Shen Yuqing carried him out, he was still a bit confused.

Heaven above, how did waking up suddenly feel like arriving in paradise?

Shen Yuqing sat down next to Pei Yiyan with Good Luck in his arms and said,
“I found this cat on the street a few days ago.”

Cat?

Pei Yiyan hadn’t fully processed what he said yet when he heard soft, milky meowing.

Then he felt someone grab his left wrist and guide his hand onto something fluffy and warm.

The cat gently rubbed against his palm, clearly friendly.

It really was a cat.

Pei Yiyan felt dazed. He had raised a cat as a child, but it passed away when he was twelve. After that, he became busy with school and learning about the family business. He never thought about having another pet.

And after the accident, he was barely surviving—how could he think about pets?

He felt his hand gently stroking the cat’s body. It was calm and well-behaved. When he scratched its ticklish spot, the cat even let out a happy purring sound.

Shen Yuqing moved Pei Yiyan’s hand to the injured area.
“Its back leg is hurt. The bandage can’t come off for a few days, so be careful when touching it.”

Pei Yiyan didn’t know how to respond. In the end, he just gave a dumb little “Mm.”

Shen Yuqing didn’t care about his cold reaction.
“I’m not home during the day, so you’ll need to take care of it.”

He was still holding Pei Yiyan’s wrist. As he spoke, he instinctively pulled Pei Yiyan slightly closer to him.

Realizing what he had done, he quickly let go and acted like nothing had happened.

That was close!

Thankfully, for the cat’s sake, Pei Yiyan’s stats didn’t change.

Shen Yuqing breathed a sigh of relief and continued,
“His name is Good Luck. Remember that.”

Good Luck?

Pei Yiyan frowned slightly. Shen Yuqing saw the faint look of disapproval on his face and said confidently,
“I picked up the cat, so I get to name it. And it likes the name.”

Pei Yiyan made a soft sound of agreement. He didn’t want to argue about it.

Just then, a servant came to call them for lunch.

Seeing Pei Yiyan, Shen Yuqing remembered something else:
“Didn’t the Pei family say they were sending someone over? Where are they?”

The servant replied,
“They haven’t come yet. Probably in the afternoon.”

“I see.” Shen Yuqing raised an eyebrow. “Got it.”

As he spoke, his eyes stayed on Pei Yiyan’s face.

He already knew someone from the Pei family would come, so he wasn’t surprised at all.

The two of them sat at the dining table.
While eating, Shen Yuqing asked the system:

[Can’t we just reject the servant the Pei family sends?]
If they refused, they wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore.

The system replied:
[Even if you reject them, once the story hits the plot point, things will still happen the way they’re supposed to. You already saw that yesterday at the bar, didn’t you?]

Shen Yuqing sulked and stuffed two spoonfuls of rice into his mouth.
He asked again:
[So when does the 2.0 plot start?]

Since the system hadn’t rushed him this time, that meant it wasn’t starting right away.

The system answered:
[This is a follow-up plot point. The time is not fixed.]

Shen Yuqing replied:
[Babe, are you really a cheat code?]

The system, feeling attacked by the host, let out two small sobs.
[Host, you know I was factory-produced since birth…]

[Stop.]
Shen Yuqing had a headache.
[Go offline and rest.]

The system left him a smiling emoji and quickly went into sleep mode.

After a full lunch, Shen Yuqing felt pretty good.

Good Luck seemed to be a natural extrovert.
Within an hour, he was already running around and playing.

After telling the servants a few things, Shen Yuqing left the house.

Right after he left, Pei Yiyan came out of the study.
He felt Good Luck circling around his feet and, after a moment of hesitation, crouched down and reached out a hand.

Good Luck immediately rubbed against his palm, showing great affection.

Pei Yiyan’s lips curved slightly, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
He softly said,

“Little Lucky.”

Lucky sounded way better than Good Luck!
