Boundless Love – Chapter 86

86.

It might sound like garbage, but that’s why he had moved more comfortably all this time. While thinking that love was an illusion, somewhere in his heart, he still believed in it.

“Huh.”

Realizing this about himself, Chairman Jang wore a dejected expression. No, this wasn’t the time for that. He needed to come to his senses and respond. First, he needed to know exactly how many executives had defected to Baek Sira. If he had known this would happen, he would have expedited Jeong Heejun’s marriage. If he had joined with Toho Construction earlier and given them one of the director positions, things wouldn’t have reached this point.

Chairman Jang wasn’t ready to easily give up what he had.

He was lucky. Jeong Heejun thought this as he looked at the information he had obtained. Ryu Jiyeon had consistently helped him even after failing to rescue Haseo.

“Why are you doing so much for me?”

To Heejun’s question, Jiyeon smiled and answered.

“Aren’t we friends? A friend who helped you a lot in childhood. If such a friend was in that situation, wouldn’t you feel uncomfortable too, Heejun-ssi?”

Unlike her family, she was a good person. That’s why Jeong Heejun felt guilty every time he received her help. Yet, he couldn’t refuse her assistance either. As such days accumulated, Jiyeon contacted him saying she had found Haseo’s location.

“Those kinds of people usually have several safe houses. But they’re registered under different names, making them hard to find. This time, I happened to visit a place and saw Haseo-ssi.”

She then informed him about Haseo’s current condition.

“You say he’s hospitalized?”

“Yes, it seems he’s been injured. According to witnesses, a large man carried someone inside, and they were covered in blood. I think the large man was Director Choi.”

Jeong Heejun received a paper with the hospital address from Jiyeon with trembling hands.

“Thank you.”

“It’s nothing. I’m just happy to help you, Heejun-ssi.”

“Thank you so much. I won’t forget this favor.”

“What favor? Do you need any other help?”

“This time, I’ll try to manage on my own somehow. I have my pride too.”

“I don’t mind helping?”

“Still.”

After expressing his gratitude several times, Jeong Heejun rushed out of the room. Ryu Jiyeon watched his retreating figure and twisted her lips. Her family had wanted to raise their youngest daughter, Jiyeon, as a clean person unrelated to family affairs. But how could she grow up straight when everything she saw and heard was like this?

“I have the same blood.”

Initially, she met him without much thought, at her father’s behest, but she came to like Jeong Heejun. For someone involved in this field, he was diligent and pure. So at some point, she found herself wanting him.

“Lee Haseo.”

Jeong Heejun always called him a friend, but Jiyeon thought there was more to it.

“Who would do this much for a friend?”

At least, she had never seen such a person around her. It was fine as long as she didn’t know, but if she realized her feelings while helping him, it would be troublesome. So what should she do?

‘I need to remove him.’

That didn’t mean she was thinking of killing him. The restraint her parents had placed on Jiyeon was working effectively. Since she didn’t want to be bloodstained like the rest of her family yet, she planned to send him far abroad once she rescued him. With someone to watch over him.

For that, she felt she needed to move directly too. There were aspects she couldn’t fully trust to Jeong Heejun alone. So she picked up her phone and made a call.

“Yes, Father. It’s me. I have a favor to ask.”

This time too, her father would grant Jiyeon’s request. As always.

Choi Mujin decided to discharge Haseo from the hospital. Since his wounds kept worsening due to self-harm, he decided to move him to a place where control would be easier.

“Discharge?”

“I’m planning to transfer him to another hospital.”

“Well, that might be better.”

The nurse showed an understanding expression at the excuse.

“There’s a limit to what we can do here.”

Thanks to this, the discharge process was completed quickly. Since Haseo kept saying he wanted to die, the hospital administered a sedative. This made it not difficult to carry him. Though he could hear him grumbling irritably, he ignored it. Even if he listened, they were all things he couldn’t comply with at the moment.

As they were leaving the hospital, they encountered a familiar face.

“Haseo!”

Jeong Heejun, who seemed to have rushed over, blocked Mujin’s path.

“Oh dear.”

Choi Mujin sighed softly, as if annoyed.

“Haseo, Haseo! Why are you like this!”

“Jeong Heejun-ssi, this is a hospital. You should lower your voice.”

“Do you have the right to say that? Let Haseo go right now!”

“Haseo is currently in a state where he can barely walk on his own. What do you expect if I put him down?”

“You know that’s not what I meant!”

“So noisy.”

Choi Mujin tried to bypass Jeong Heejun. But Heejun persistently clung to him. No, from the middle, he tried to take Haseo away from Mujin.

“This is ridiculous.”

Mujin used a slight hand movement to push Heejun away. But even staggering, Heejun didn’t fall.

“Have you decided to throw away all pretense now?”

“I never had any to begin with!”

What could he do alone? Park Dongsu, who had arrived by now, restrained Jeong Heejun. The hospital’s security guard, who had rushed over in alarm, was told they were leaving soon and was sent back. The guard, seemingly not wanting to get involved in complicated matters, hesitated before turning away.

“Haseo, let Haseo go!”

By this point, even Mujin was starting to get angry.

“You youngster.”

If it weren’t for Chairman Jang, Jeong Heejun’s backing, he would have killed him long ago. It was still premature to deal with him. Baek Sira, Chairman Jang’s wife, had started to move, but there was still quite a bit of work left.

Out of the five directors, three had turned, and one was being persuaded amicably. The one remaining would be discarded. He was like Chairman Jang’s puppet, with less authority in the company than expected and not much to note. This meant that even the thin shield of protection Jeong Heejun had would soon disappear. So it was right to just pass by him now.

The anger boiling in his chest wouldn’t subside. Still, Haseo was the priority for now. He decided to think after moving him to the car that was waiting. As he was about to move again, a woman blocked his path.

“Hello. It’s been a while.”

It was Ryu Jiyeon, the youngest daughter of Toho Construction.

“Indeed. It has been a while. What brings you here?”

“First, could you release Jeong Heejun-ssi? Actually, I didn’t come alone.”

Saying this, Ryu Jiyeon pointed to the person standing next to her. Judging by the uniform, he was a police officer.

“It doesn’t seem like Jeong Heejun-ssi would have done anything to deserve such treatment.”

“Park Dongsu, let him go.”

At Choi Mujin’s words, Park Dongsu released Jeong Heejun. As soon as he was freed, he jumped up and looked at Ryu Jiyeon with surprised eyes.

“Ryu Jiyeon-ssi.”

Jiyeon waved her hand gently at Jeong Heejun. Then she turned her head and looked directly at Choi Mujin. Maybe because she had never experienced harsh treatment, she showed no fear.

“The person next to me is an uncle I know. He works as the police chief in this area. He happened to come for a visit, and I accidentally got a burn. I’m such a klutz. I was originally going to come to the hospital alone, but my uncle was worried and came with me.”

She’s quite verbose with things no one asked about.

“And to meet Director Choi here! What a coincidence!”

It couldn’t be a coincidence. Pretending to be innocent, she ultimately was of Toho Construction’s bloodline. She had that cunning fox-like aspect that was identical.

“But who is the person you’re carrying? What’s wrong with them?”

“Do you need to know?”

“I think I know them. Isn’t it normal to worry about someone you know?”

How shameless. She shouldn’t have ever met Haseo, yet she pretended to know him.

“There’s no need to worry. We’re on our way out after discharge.”

“Really? He still looks sick to me. Is it okay for him to be discharged? Uncle, what do you think?”

“Huh? Umm. He does seem to still be in pain.”

“Right? Shall we ask what’s hurting? Haseo-ssi.”

At Jiyeon’s voice, Haseo weakly raised his head.

“What’s hurting? Tell me, and I’ll help you.”

Standing at the hospital entrance like this, a crowd began to gather. The gazes contained both annoyance and curiosity.

“What’s going on?”

At someone’s words, another spoke up.

“I don’t know. What are they doing?”

“It looks a bit dangerous. That guy looks like a gangster.”

“Since that person seems to be a police officer, it should be fine, right?”

“I guess so.”

Because of the police officer standing next to Jiyeon, people didn’t run away despite seeing Choi Mujin and Park Dongsu.

“Haseo-ssi.”

Jeong Heejun watched Jiyeon’s actions and clenched his fist. And finally, Haseo opened his mouth.
