Luo Wenchuan’s gaze fell on the cake in Chi Yu’s hands, a flicker of emotion flashing through his eyes that Chi Yu couldn’t decipher.
After a moment, Luo Wenchuan asked, “Are you sure he gave this to you?”
“Xingze cares about me, so he sent me food,” Chi Yu said coldly, his eyes filled with hostility. “What, are you jealous? Too bad I’ve heard you’re allergic to Omega pheromones. Probably no Omega would ever send you a cake.”
Luo Wenchuan’s expression remained impassive as he stared at Chi Yu.
Chi Yu frowned. As their eyes met, the air between them seemed to crackle with tension.
“Is that so.”
Suddenly, the corners of Luo Wenchuan’s lips curled up as he meaningfully changed the subject: “Actually, I might not be allergic to all Omegas.”
Chi Yu froze for a second. He didn’t quite understand Luo Wenchuan’s implication, some piece of information flashed through his mind, but he couldn’t grasp it.
So, Chi Yu sneered, “Then I hope you find a non-allergenic Omega soon. Until then—”
He took a step forward, glaring at Luo Wenchuan. “Stay away from Yun Xingze. Understood?”
Luo Wenchuan stared at Chi Yu for three seconds, then schooled his expression and walked past him without acknowledging his words.
Chi Yu frowned as he watched Luo Wenchuan’s retreating figure.
Although he didn’t think Luo Wenchuan was the type to fall for Yun Xingze, for some reason, every time he saw Luo Wenchuan, he felt an inexplicable sense of threat.
Yun Xingze sat at the table with his back to the door. Hearing footsteps, he assumed Chi Yu had returned and turned around with a frown.
The next moment, he froze in surprise.
“Boss Luo, what brings you here?” Yun Xingze asked curiously. “Need help modifying your mecha?”
Luo Wenchuan’s previously gloomy mood improved instantly upon seeing the boy’s fair complexion and bright eyes.
He raised a brow. “Looking for you.”
Keeping some distance, Luo Wenchuan glanced at Yun Xingze’s holographic screen and casually asked, “What are you researching?”
“I’m figuring out how a mid-to-small-sized mecha of subpar quality can defeat a large mecha,” Yun Xingze explained. “Like the Storm mecha, I haven’t encountered any super-large mechas yet, but just in case, I need a strategy.”
“How’s the research going?” Luo Wenchuan asked.
Yun Xingze smiled. “I think I’m close to cracking it.”
Luo Wenchuan nodded. “If you need any materials, just let me know.”
“Sure, thanks,” Yun Xingze replied.
Then, Yun Xingze closed his holographic display, stood up, and walked over to Luo Wenchuan. Looking up at him earnestly, he asked, “You came all this way to see me. Is there something you needed?”
Under Yun Xingze’s expectant gaze, Luo Wenchuan slowly asked, “Are you dissatisfied with the disciplinary results for Su Zinan and Chi Yu?”
Yun Xingze had anticipated this question. “Honestly, I’m not entirely satisfied with the outcome, but I know you did your best. Chi Yu’s father pressured the school with his status. There wasn’t much we could do. Still, thank you for helping me.”
Luo Wenchuan nodded. “No need to thank me. You’re my mecha engineer, it’s only right that I help you.”
“I’m just your mecha engineer. You’ve helped me too much,” Yun Xingze said. “I don’t have much to repay you with, but if you need modifications or repairs for your mecha, just tell me. I’ll do my best.”
Luo Wenchuan gave a quiet “Mm” in response, his gaze lingering on Yun Xingze as if wanting to say more.
Noticing Luo Wenchuan’s hesitation, Yun Xingze asked, “Is there something else you wanted to say, boss?”
A trace of hesitation flickered in Luo Wenchuan’s narrow, dark eyes.
He had wanted to ask whether Yun Xingze had dissolved his pheromone bond with Chi Yu, but upon hearing the words “just your mecha engineer,” his eyes dimmed slightly, the question seemingly stuck in his throat.
Yun Xingze felt indebted to Luo Wenchuan for his kindness.
Yet to Luo Wenchuan, those words had instantly widened the distance between them.
Though to him, Yun Xingze might be the only Omega in the entire galaxy whose pheromones didn’t trigger his allergies.
But Yun Xingze didn’t know this. Between them, there was only the relationship of senior and junior, employer and hired mecha engineer.
He truly had no right to ask whether Yun Xingze had dissolved his pheromone bond.
Nor did he have the right to ask if Yun Xingze still liked Chi Yu.
Yun Xingze watched as Luo Wenchuan’s lips parted slightly, his voice softer than before. “You…”
Yun Xingze met his gaze patiently, waiting for him to continue.
After a moment.
Luo Wenchuan closed his eyes briefly, swiftly masking the emotions in his eyes before regaining his composure. Looking at Yun Xingze, he said, “From now on, just call me senior.”
Yun Xingze blinked in surprise, then smiled. “Alright.”
Luo Wenchuan concealed his low spirits and turned to leave, but then Yun Xingze spoke up. “Want to grab a meal together, senior?”
Hearing this, Luo Wenchuan paused mid-step and looked back at Yun Xingze, his expression one of surprise. After a long moment, he nodded with another quiet “Mm.”
The moment the two appeared in the military academy cafeteria, they drew countless stares.
Luo Wenchuan’s notorious aversion to Omegas was common knowledge. Previously, no Omegas would dare sit near him during meals, and even Alphas kept their distance.
But now, not only was Luo Wenchuan dining with someone else, that someone was an Omega male?!
Many were shocked, speculating wildly about Yun Xingze’s identity.
When they learned Yun Xingze had quietly become Luo Wenchuan’s personal mecha engineer, their astonishment grew; was Yun Xingze’s modification skill now so advanced that he could serve as the mecha engineer for an SS-ranked warrior?
Yun Xingze hadn’t expected sharing a meal with Luo Wenchuan to attract so much attention.
Luo Wenchuan ate calmly, utterly indifferent to the surrounding whispers.
“Here, try this,” Yun Xingze said, breaking the awkward silence by placing a piece of meat in Luo Wenchuan’s bowl. “It’s really good.”
Luo Wenchuan’s chopsticks stilled.
The surrounding chatter abruptly quieted.
A second later, he lifted his dark, narrow eyes. “Thanks.”
Watching him eat the meat, Yun Xingze couldn’t help but smile slightly, thinking to himself that Luo Wenchuan wasn’t as difficult to get along with as he’d imagined.
Nearby, hushed murmurs spread.
“Doesn’t Luo Wenchuan have mysophobia?”
“And I heard he never eats greasy food.”
“Damn, are my eyes playing tricks on me?!”
