Chapter 36

#Yu Shiqing carrying Lin Anjin out of the car# , the trending topic page was full of GIFs showing the moment when Yu Shiqing and Lin Anjin got out of the car and had an accident.
From the GIFs, it was clearly visible that the figure marked with Yu Shiqing’s icon stepped out of the car first, followed closely by Lin Anjin. Then Yu Shiqing turned around, and Lin Anjin suddenly stumbled out of the car and was caught firmly in Yu Shiqing’s arms.
After that, Yu Shiqing said something to him, Lin Anjin let go, and the two walked toward the hotel entrance, talking to each other.

Today’s trending gossip:
#Yu Shiqing carrying Lin Anjin out of the car#
It’s reported that Director Shi Zhefing’s new film Mist started filming this morning. Yu Shiqing and Lin Anjin, who had both starred in A Sunny Tomorrow, are working together again. That evening, they returned to the hotel together, appearing close sparking rumors of rekindled romance.

Putting aside the filming of Doomsday Rescue, ever since a few years ago, Yu Shiqing went viral due to several high-profile incidents  from the “parking lot fight,” to terminating his contract with Huaze, to the reversal of that fight case, then signing with New Era Media, and being frequently photographed with Jiang Yu.
He’s been trending more often, and the public has become quite familiar with his name.

Since his rise to fame came from exposing the corrupt Qitaihua during an act of justice, and with the hype from the trailer of his new project still fresh, public opinion of him remains quite positive. Netizens were happy to see his name in the headlines again and passionately discussed it online.

“Oh my God, look at how he catches him! Yu Shiqing has such boyfriend energy! I’m so jealous right now!!”

“Damn, how is he still this handsome in such low-resolution images?! But wait… is there really something going on between them?”

“Of course, handsome guys stick together. These two looks so good side by side.”

“Noooo, is my new husband also dating someone now?? Okay fine, I admit, Lin Anjin does match well with him. 😭😭”

Afterward, gossip accounts even dug up clips and stills from A Sunny Tomorrow to help viewers “match faces.”

Ren Bai found out about the news immediately.
Holding his phone, he entered Yu Shiqing’s room. Before he could speak, his phone started ringing  it was Luo Shaoyuan from New Era Media, the person in charge of coordinating with Ren Bai.

Ren Bai answered the call and, after listening for a bit, looked surprised and covered the mic.
“He wants to talk to you.”

Although Yu Shiqing had signed a contract, Ren Bai still handled all his affairs. Yu Shiqing didn’t accept an assistant from the company either. Other than the day of the signing, New Era Media hadn’t interacted much with him.

Yu Shiqing walked to the sofa and picked up a script.
“What is it?”

“It’s about the trending topic,” Ren Bai said, then quickly summarized the situation for him. He picked up Yu Shiqing’s phone from the table, opened the trending list, and tapped in.

There was no need to explain more the GIFs already showed everything.
This was the second time Yu Shiqing had been photographed in front of a hotel and got caught up in a rumor.

The difference was, last time it involved Jiang Yu. This time, it was with Lin Anjin.

“So, being famous isn’t all good, huh? Even just getting out of a car attracts the paparazzi. We can’t go out casually like before anymore,” Ren Bai grumbled, though he was still curious what really happened.

Yu Shiqing said nothing and instead instructed, “Put it on speaker.”

Ren Bai did as tell.

“You’ve probably already heard about the trending topic, right, Teacher Yu?” Luo Shaoyuan’s voice came through the speaker.

“Yes,” Yu Shiqing replied.

Ren Bai frowned. “Is it really so hard to take it down?”

This kind of baseless rumor should be easy to resolve there was no reason to escalate it.

“Well, here’s the thing,” Luo Shaoyuan explained. “We actually wanted to discuss with Teacher Yu whether there’s a need to take it down.”

Ren Bai blinked. “What do you mean?”

Then it clicked, and he looked at Yu Shiqing.
“You’re not planning to use this rumor for publicity, are you?”

“It’s not really about using it,” Luo Shaoyuan said. “Just letting it develop naturally. Based on the current online comments, public opinion is quite positive. If guided properly, it could become valuable exposure.”

In other words, a silent misdirection.

Actors being rumored during co-productions is nothing new. Sometimes it even benefits the movie.
Some actors even sign “dating contracts” during promotion, then publicly break up after the film ends it’s not uncommon.

Ren Bai understood Luo Shaoyuan’s reasoning.
Yu Shiqing didn’t have any recent works. This film would take two to three months to shoot, and its release might not happen until mid- or late year. Netizens have short memories. In six months, no one might even remember his name. Occasional rumors help maintain presence, which can benefit both the movie and Yu Shiqing’s own brand.

But the key was —did Yu Shiqing need this?

Ren Bai turned to Yu Shiqing. “What do you think?”

“Take it down,” Yu Shiqing said.

Luo Shaoyuan was surprised by how quickly he decided.
“Teacher Yu, are you sure? This could actually be beneficial with no downside.”

Then he added, “Or is there a specific reason?”

Was it because Yu Shiqing had a partner? That hadn’t been disclosed before signing. Still, even that could be worked around.

Yu Shiqing answered calmly, “I want the audience to focus on the movie, not the actors’ private lives.”

Luo Shaoyuan was speechless. He hadn’t expected that.

Plenty of actors say that, but when it affects their own interests, how many can really do it?

Then again, Yu Shiqing didn’t even register his own social media account Ren Bai did it for him. And after going viral, he stayed at Huaze like a retiree for four years, living like some detached sage.

Luo Shaoyuan finally gave in.
“Agent Ren, maybe Teacher Yu just doesn’t fully understand how things work. Can you try convincing him again? This really isn’t a big deal everyone does it.”

Ren Bai looked at Yu Shiqing, who was calmly flipping through his script.

He smiled bitterly.
“Come on, once Yu Shiqing decides something, no one ever changes his mind. I’m not wasting my breath.”

“Honestly, he’s never liked these kinds of rumors. I think removing it is the right call and it gives Lin Anjin’s side an explanation too.”

Lin Anjin had never been involved in gossip either. His stance was probably similar.

Luo Shaoyuan sighed.

He’d been planning to finalize the collaboration with Lin Anjin’s agent after settling things with Yu Shiqing.
Mist was a New Era production, and they had already considered pairing the two actors. The rumor had created perfect timing but now it was all falling apart.

And Yu Shiqing wasn’t someone he could pressure. He was personally chosen by Director Shi and signed by VP Wu Zhe.

After the call, Ren Bai kept browsing on Yu Shiqing’s phone.
Sure enough, the trending tag #YuShiqingCarryingLinAnjin# gradually dropped off.

But soon another tag emerged: #YuShiqingLinAnjin#. Clearly, netizens were still interested.

Then Yu Shiqing got a call from Lin Anjin.

“Shiqing, my agent just told me about the trending topic,” Lin Anjin said apologetically. “I didn’t expect paparazzi to be following us. I’m really sorry.”

“It’s okay,” Yu Shiqing replied.

“But the trending tag is still active,” Lin Anjin hesitated. “The company got the hotel surveillance footage. Should I post it to clarify?”

This was technically the PR team’s job, but it would be more convincing coming from the person involved.

“Go ahead,” Yu Shiqing said.

Ren Bai, eavesdropping openly, turned to look at him.
Usually, Yu Shiqing ignored all rumors. Like that misunderstanding with Jiang Yu he never explained a thing.

So, this time…

He watched Yu Shiqing hang up and return to his script, expression unchanged, clearly uninterested in any follow-up.

Maybe he just answered casually because Lin Anjin asked.

“I wonder how Jiang Yu would react seeing this trend,” Ren Bai joked.
“And weren’t you guys messaging each other nonstop? Why no replies now?”

“He’s rehearsing,” Yu Shiqing said.

The message thread was still stuck on the last photo Yu Shiqing sent a picture of an empty bottle. Jiang Yu hadn’t replied.

Ren Bai nodded.
Makes sense. With over 20 concerts ahead, Jiang Yu wouldn’t have time to watch social media. Unlike himself he had nothing to do.

When Lin Anjin’s clarification post was published, Ren Bai read it first.

@LinAnjinV:
Tripped a little. Big thanks to Teacher Yu @YuShiqing for saving me from face-planting. Appreciate everyone’s concern I’ll watch my step next time 😭

The explanation was clear and straightforward. The surveillance footage showed the car door area, and zooming in, you could indeed see Lin Anjin stumbling slightly before falling and being caught.

Ren Bai asked casually, “Want me to repost this?”

Yu Shiqing nodded. “Mm.”

Ren Bai paused, then asked, “From your account?”

“Mm.”

Ren Bai hesitated a long while, then finally asked,
“Didn’t you used to not care about this kind of stuff? Why agrees this time?”

Whether it was responding or clarifying even when Yu Shiqing was completely misunderstood during the Qitaihua scandal, he didn’t bother to speak up.
Ren Bai knew Yu Shiqing only cared about acting.

Without looking up, Yu Shiqing flipped a page. “I didn’t have an account before.”

“That’s it?” Ren Bai stared.

You didn’t even take interviews when people called you directly!

Yu Shiqing still didn’t look up. “What else?”

Ren Bai was speechless.

After reposting the clarification, the trending topic split in two:
#LinAnjinThanksEveryone
and
#YuShiqingResponds

Not long after, a notification popped up on Yu Shiqing’s phone.

He unlocked it and opened the message.

Ren Bai peeked over. Sure enough it was Jiang Yu’s chat window.

Jiang Yu:
Rehearsal just finished.

Author’s Note:
Ren Bai: That’s some timing.
Meng Chen: I don’t buy it for a second!

It spread online that the washed-up film emperor, Yu Shiqing, was seen entering and leaving the same hotel as the popular idol Jiang Yu. The media, eager for gossip, rushed to get an interview. As usual, Yu Shiqing refused: “Don’t disturb me while filming.” Jiang Yu, known for being strong-willed, said, “You guys should know your limits when making things up. How could two Alphas have a scandal?” Even the fans came out to clarify professionally: “They’re filming together. Please don’t misunderstand!” That night. Inside the hotel. For some reason, Yu Shiqing pinned the wrong Jiang Yu against the door and bit his gland. With a strange Alpha’s pheromones invading his body, Jiang Yu felt both pain and pleasure. His face turned dark with anger. “Hey, bastard, you bit the wrong person!” Yu Shiqing looked up and, oh— it really was the wrong person. So he simply apologized: “Sorry. Let’s pretend tonight never happened.” Jiang Yu: “…” Scumbag! If I don’t turn this around, I’ve lost!
