Spending the New Year Together Is Different from Living Together?
This time was also different from when they stayed in the same suite at the hotel. In the presidential suite where Jiang Yu was staying, each room had its own bathroom, makeup area, walk-in closet, and so on. So, although they were technically living together, it was more like staying on the same floor without disturbing each other. Aside from working on the script, they rarely had time alone together.
But here, in Yu Shiqing’s house, there was only one bedroom, two living areas, a study, a kitchen, and a bathroom. The bedroom had a walk-in closet but no private bathroom. In other words, once they lived together, it would be impossible to maintain the same level of privacy they had at the hotel.
Yu Shiqing was a bit surprised that Jiang Yu had taken the initiative to suggest temporarily staying here. After all, back when they were at the hotel, Jiang Yu couldn’t even tolerate that he didn’t wear pajamas. From how they had interacted since then, it was clear Jiang Yu had little experience living under the same roof with someone else.
Although, to be fair, neither did he.
Still, since Jiang Yu didn’t seem to mind, Yu Shiqing didn’t say anything. Jiang Yu had helped him so much there was no reason to refuse such a small request.
“When do you plan to move in?” Yu Shiqing asked.
Jiang Yu had basically been staying there for the past few days, but he had only really shared the bed with Yu Shiqing last night. Before that, he had been unconscious for two days and didn’t remember much. If Jiang Yu really planned to move in, Yu Shiqing could tidy up the study and give him the master bedroom.
Seeing no hesitation on Yu Shiqing’s face, Jiang Yu took a sip of coffee and replied, “Sometime in the next couple of days.”
Yu Shiqing said, “I’ll sleep in the study.”
Jiang Yu replied, “I can sleep in the study—”
Yu Shiqing interrupted him, “It’s settled.”
Jiang Yu had no choice but to ask, “Do we need to tidy anything up?”
Yu Shiqing said, “Just change the bedding.”
“Let’s move after the New Year,” Jiang Yu frowned. “You’re still recovering. It’s best not to do anything right now.”
Yu Shiqing said, “Alright.”
His illness had mostly improved just a bit of a low-grade fever and occasional cough. It was only because Jiang Yu was so strict that he was still being treated like a patient. But he had slowly gotten used to Jiang Yu’s care. After all, it had been Jiang Yu who had taken care of him during those days of high fever. Without him, the illness might have worsened.
“I won’t be a bother if I move in, will I?” Jiang Yu’s voice interrupted Yu Shiqing’s thoughts.
Yu Shiqing looked at him. “Bother?”
Jiang Yu put his coffee back on the table and casually leaned his elbow on the armrest. “Like disturbing your love life.”
Yu Shiqing laughed. “Don’t worry, I don’t have a love life right now.”
Jiang Yu caught onto the key phrase. “Right now?”
Yu Shiqing replied, “If I do, I’ll let you know in advance.”
He didn’t think much of it. After all, Jiang Yu was a top celebrity and couldn’t let too many people know where he was staying.
Jiang Yu: “…”
Seeing that Jiang Yu didn’t pursue the topic, Yu Shiqing casually put the concert ticket back in the envelope and changed the subject. “Is your first concert in the capital?”
Jiang Yu’s expression turned gloomy. “Yes.”
Yu Shiqing didn’t notice. “Perfect. I can attend before filming starts.”
The movie director Shi Zhefing was preparing for wouldn’t start shooting for about a month, so he had plenty of time.
Jiang Yu replied meaningfully, “I have three shows in the capital.”
Yu Shiqing politely expressed amazement. “Impressive.”
Jiang Yu: “…”
Then Yu Shiqing belatedly asked, “Why did you only give me a ticket to one show?”
Jiang Yu said seriously, “You’re so busy. Watching all three would be too much for you.”
Yu Shiqing said, “Aren’t you short on money lately? If I don’t go, you could sell the other two tickets.”
Jiang Yu’s anger flared again. “…I’m not that desperate for ticket money.”
“I’m just joking.” Yu Shiqing smiled and gave the envelope a shake. “I’ll definitely go.”
Jiang Yu looked at the envelope, then at Yu Shiqing’s face. Before Yu Shiqing could speak again, Jiang Yu said, “No, you’re right. I am short on money. If you want to support me, you should at least pay for the tickets.”
With that, he suddenly reached out to snatch the envelope back.
Yu Shiqing had already noticed the look in his eyes and stretched his arm out just in time. “Didn’t you just say you weren’t desperate for those tickets?”
Jiang Yu said, “That was then. This is now.”
Yu Shiqing caught on and replied, “Well, right now, the tickets are in my hand.”
Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow. “Not for long.”
He half stood up, grabbed Yu Shiqing’s arm, and leaned in to take the envelope from his hand.
Yu Shiqing chuckled and pushed Jiang Yu back by the shoulder not too forcefully but there was nothing behind Jiang Yu to support him. He stumbled and ended up half-lying on the couch. Just as he tried to move, his right knee slid and brushed straight across Yu Shiqing’s center.
Both of them froze.
At that moment, a string of firecrackers exploded on the balcony outside, separated by two panes of glass. Since fireworks weren’t allowed, people used electronic firecrackers during the New Year. Someone could be faintly heard shouting “Happy New Year!” from outside.
The noisy cheer saved them from the awkward tension.
Jiang Yu quickly stood up and awkwardly said, “Wow, it’s midnight already.”
Yu Shiqing said, “Happy New Year.”
Jiang Yu glanced at him. “Happy New Year.”
Both of their phones had been receiving notifications all evening. Right after midnight, the New Year wishes came flooding in.
