What you’re looking at is the complete chaos I witnessed at the hospital today. Haha… It’s pretty shocking even just seeing it in photos, isn’t it?

Well, that’s exactly how I feel right now. Even though it wasn’t my problem, I still can’t stop thinking about it…. Here’s what happened… ^^;

My eldest brother was admitted to the hospital for surgery a little while ago.

Normally, my sister-in-law has been staying with him as his caregiver, but she hasn’t been feeling well, so I took the day off work today and stayed with him instead.

My brother seemed to be having a really rough time.

The surgery itself went well, and he’s recovering, but apparently the elderly man sharing his room—and that man’s wife who’s been taking care of him—are genuinely not ordinary crazy people. From what I heard… my brother’s in a six-person room, and every single day, six times a day at fixed hours, she loudly offers prayers to someone called Ha-neul or whatever.

Yeah… she’s in a cult……

My family is devoutly Christian to begin with, so it’s understandable why my brother was so uncomfortable.

He said it was miserable staying in that room. Since it’s a large hospital, changing rooms wasn’t easy either. We couldn’t afford to move to a double room or a private room…

Even if people warned her, she’d stop only temporarily…. Seriously. ^^; It’s people with no manners like this who end up making innocent people suffer….

To get some fresh air and lift his spirits, I was pushing my brother around the hospital garden on one of the middle floors when, of all people, that couple also came out for a walk.

We’d gone outside because we didn’t want to see them…. Thankfully, the garden was pretty spacious, so we just decided to avoid them while we walked.

Then about twenty minutes later…

All of a sudden, we heard the old man screaming.

I didn’t like the guy, but hearing someone scream like that caught us completely off guard, so we went over to see what had happened.

The man was lying on the ground with a look of agony on his face. It was obvious at a glance that something was seriously wrong. No matter how much bad blood there’d been between us… it wasn’t like I’d wished for the man to lose his life.

Things escalated fast.

It turned out he’d suffered an acute myocardial infarction.

Since it happened in a hospital, they were able to start emergency treatment immediately, but his condition was already extremely serious….

On top of that, the wife wasn’t in any better shape either. I don’t know why, but the two of them had both collapsed.

The woman regained consciousness before long, but she kept babbling incomprehensible nonsense about Ha-neul and demons while frantically making phone calls. -__-;

Her husband had already been taken down to the intensive care unit, yet she didn’t seem concerned about him at all. She just stayed in the hospital room making one phone call after another….

Whoever she was calling never picked up.

Everyone around her started whispering, but she never got tired—she just kept dialing over and over. -__- It was incredibly strange.

There was something downright unhinged about her.

Sorry, that was a long introduction. ^^;;

The situation in the title happened after that.

About an hour later, someone who appeared to be her son arrived.

The moment she saw him, though, she suddenly grabbed him by the hair;

She screamed that the demon possessing him had killed her husband, that someone like him never should have been saved in the first place and should’ve been killed long ago….

It was obvious she wasn’t in her right mind.

Fortunately, the friend who’d come with her son was a really big guy, and he managed to pull her away by force.

But then that crazy woman started hurling abuse at the friend too….

She completely flew into a frenzy….

In the end, it continued until hospital staff came and physically separated them….

She really looked completely insane.

She threw herself onto the floor, screaming and making a huge scene.

She was so completely consumed with rage that even the male staff members couldn’t restrain her.

Then…

That woman suddenly looked up at empty air, stared at something with sheer terror on her face, let out a horrifying scream, foamed at the mouth, and collapsed backward on the spot;

I couldn’t bring myself to take a picture of that part.

It was honestly pretty chilling to witness.

For a moment, I even wondered if it was divine punishment.

The staff carried the unconscious woman away, probably to lay her down somewhere….

After that, I honestly don’t know what happened.

They say appearances aren’t everything, but her son was tall, handsome, and neatly dressed. He looked like he’d grown up to be a genuinely respectable young man…..

But according to what my brother told me, apparently that son had never visited even once before now.

Considering what his parents are like, it’s not surprising. I’d probably cut ties too.

He looked pretty shaken, but the friend who came with him comforted him as they left.

I guess this post doesn’t really have much of a point….

I just couldn’t get what I saw today out of my head, so I thought I’d write it down.

If there’s any conclusion to today’s post, I suppose it’s simply that cults are incredibly awful. ^^;

I just feel sorry for the husband and the son because of that crazy lady.

↳ BlackBear

Hmm… I don’t know about that.

It’s not like that woman was the only one who drove the son away….

Sure, there’s obviously something wrong with her, but I don’t think she’s the only one at fault.

There are more parents in this world who don’t deserve to be parents than you’d think.

↳ CurlyCurlyBoggle

I agree with CheongyangPepper.

For all we know, maybe the son did something too.

Looking at the guy trying to stop her, he’s built like a tank, and those tattoos aren’t exactly ordinary….

Do you really think an average person looks like that? ^^;

He only looks respectable on the surface. Honestly, he kind of looks like a gangster to me.

Maybe that guy beside him is one of his underlings or something….

↳ MiracleMan

Judging by his watch, it looks like a Patek Philippe….

Gangsters make good money these days, huh? lol

Stop nitpicking over pointless things….

Is there really any need to tear the son down for no reason?

Feels like you’re missing the point.

The real root of the problem is the cult. I don’t think there’s any reason to argue about anything else here….

You’re just derailing the discussion.

I go to church too, and I’ve seen these cockroach-like bastards show up and lure away so many innocent young women and young men. ^^;

Ah~ cults really are a serious problem….

When parents and children abandon each other because of them, I honestly can’t even be surprised anymore. ^^;

They get brainwashed to the point where blood relations don’t mean anything.

I once heard, through a friend of a friend, about someone’s parents getting sucked into a cult…

Apparently, when their child tried to stop them, the parents actually tried to recruit their own child instead.

It’s completely beyond saving.

On the other hand, there are also plenty of cases where it’s the child who joins a cult and cuts off their parents instead.

He took Lee Heesoo’s hand and led him away.

Having suddenly been grabbed by the hair by his mother—the first time he’d seen her in a long while—and turned into a spectacle for everyone around them, Heesoo kept his head bowed without saying a word.

Even after they entered an empty hospital room and closed the door behind them, Heesoo couldn’t bring himself to lift his head.

He gently guided Heesoo over to the vacant bed, sat him down, then knelt in front of him so he could look up at his face.

“Hyung.”

In the middle of all the chaos, the bandage covering the bruise on Heesoo’s cheek had come halfway loose.

He carefully peeled off the now practically useless bandage.

The skin beneath it was flushed red from humiliation and emotional agitation, while the other cheek had been smeared with dust from being shoved to the ground.

Whenever he recalled how Heesoo had been completely defenseless—unable to fight back simply because that person was still his mother—it made his blood boil.

Suppressing the turmoil inside him with great difficulty, he wondered if he should wipe the dirt away. As he gently brushed at Heesoo’s cheek with his hand, Heesoo, who had been sitting there blankly, finally came back to his senses and hurriedly pushed his hand away.

“I-I’ll do it.”

“Do you want to wash your face first?”

“…Yeah.”

Heesoo staggered into the attached bathroom and didn’t come back out for quite some time.

When he finally emerged, his face was still pale, but he looked noticeably better than when they’d first entered the room.

Drying his damp face with a towel, Heesoo gave him an awkward smile.

“Sorry. You had to see me like that….”

“What do you have to apologize to me for? You’re the one who went through all of that, hyung.”

“Yeah…. Ah, I should go see my father too.”

Murmuring weakly that he’d completely lost his bearings after being grabbed by his mother, Heesoo trailed off.

“Hyung. It’s okay. They said he’s still hanging on.”

He’d heard that his condition wasn’t very good, but there was no need to tell Heesoo that right now.

His parents had abandoned him for years, only contacting him when they needed a liver transplant. Why should Heesoo feel obligated to go see people like that?

At his words, Heesoo slowly nodded.

“…Okay.”

“Do you want to go now?”

“No… it’s fine….”

Heesoo shook his head listlessly.

Secretly, he couldn’t help worrying that Heesoo might be sinking into dark thoughts.

Slowly blinking, Heesoo turned his gaze toward the window.

Outside, the sky had grown dark and overcast as rain began to fall, making the already gloomy atmosphere feel even heavier.

Bathed in the artificial light shining down from overhead, Heesoo stared out the window for a long time, lost in thought.

He waited quietly without disturbing him.

The ones who had collapsed—Lee Heesoo’s father and mother—were undoubtedly Song Gitae’s doing.

But the one who had brought down Heesoo’s mother while she was grabbing him by the hair wasn’t Song Gitae.

Heesoo had been too overwhelmed to notice, but he had seen it clearly.

Kim Taeyoung, glaring at Heesoo’s mother with an expression of intense irritation, as though he wanted to kill her.

He looked toward one corner of the room.

Ghosts that appeared out of nowhere seemed invincible, but they weren’t omnipotent.

The power they possessed wasn’t limitless.

Whenever they used their strength once, they seemed unable to move for several hours afterward. That meant the chances of Kim Taeyoung tormenting the already-shocked Heesoo right now were low.

At least that was one small relief.

Having finished thinking about his enemy, his gaze naturally drifted back to Heesoo.

It hadn’t been long since they’d met, yet Heesoo had lost a noticeable amount of weight compared to when he’d first seen him.

Even the shirt Heesoo normally wore now hung loosely on his thinner frame.

He was already going through such a difficult time, and now even his own parents were making things harder for him. The thought infuriated him.

If Heesoo’s parents died like this, it might be the only good deed Song Gitae had ever done.

He swallowed the thought, one he could never bring himself to say out loud to Heesoo.

“…I feel… strange.”

At Heesoo’s listless murmur, he abandoned his train of thought and listened.

“They’re saying my parents might not make it…. But… I’m not really that sad. Isn’t that strange?”

“No.”

“I honestly don’t feel anything. I’m… numb. I’m not even worried. I think there’s something wrong with me.”

“There isn’t. I understand.”

He answered immediately.

He’d meant every word, but Heesoo avoided his eyes, as though assuming he was only taking his side to comfort him.

“I don’t know. I do feel guilty… wondering if this happened because of me…. But that’s all it is. Maybe… maybe Mom was right. Maybe I really am possessed by an evil demon. Maybe, like Taeyoung and Gitae said… everything really is my fault…”

“There’s no way that’s true, hyung.”

Unable to listen to Heesoo endlessly tear himself down any longer, he cut him off.

Heesoo parted his lips, then looked at him.

The quiet, gentle expression on his face seemed to say he would accept whatever he was about to hear, and for some reason, his mouth suddenly felt dry.

Carefully, he took Heesoo’s hand and met the gaze of those warm chestnut-brown eyes, as gentle and untainted as Heesoo himself.

“What exactly did you do wrong, hyung?”

“I… well…”

“You can’t think of anything?”

“…”

“If you have to rack your brain to come up with something, then you didn’t do anything wrong. Loving someone isn’t a crime. The ones who were wrong were your parents for condemning you for it. Song Gitae was the one who convinced himself of something that wasn’t there when all you ever showed him was simple kindness. And Kim Taeyoung was the one who tried to drag the person he loved into death with him.”

Heesoo fell silent.

In truth, bringing up Kim Taeyoung had been something of a gamble.

Every previous time he’d spoken badly about Kim Taeyoung, Heesoo had visibly hated hearing it.

But this time, Heesoo didn’t immediately get angry or deny it.

Instead…

Slowly, tears traced a path down Heesoo’s pale cheeks.

His parted lips trembled, and so did the hand resting on his knee.

“…I know. I… I think maybe you’re right. But everyone keeps saying I’m the bad one…. It’s so hard.”

“Hyung.”

“I never meant for any of this to happen…. But everyone keeps saying it’s my fault, so… so I start feeling like maybe I really am a terrible person….”

“You’re not a bad person, hyung. You’re the kindest person I’ve ever met. Honestly, kind enough that you’re almost a pushover.”

He deliberately added the last part in a teasing tone.

Heesoo let out a small laugh through his tears.

Looking at him with an expression that was somewhere between crying and smiling, Heesoo met his gaze.

He tightened his grip around Heesoo’s hand.

Caught within his much larger hand, Heesoo’s fingers gave a tiny twitch, as if they wanted to pull away.

But they never did.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, hyung.”

“…”

“You don’t need to blame yourself.”

At the gentle whisper, tears welled up in Heesoo’s eyes. Then, as if he could no longer hold them back, they spilled over.

Heesoo gasped for breath like someone struggling to breathe.

Letting go of the hand he’d been holding, he reached toward the box of tissues to wipe away Heesoo’s tears.

Just then, Heesoo caught his hand. He met Heesoo’s tear-filled gaze head-on. Those eyes clung to him, desperately yearning for someone’s warmth.

“…Yi-hyun.”

A trembling voice, laden with anxiety and hesitation.

“Baek Yi-hyun….”

And beneath that same anxiety and hesitation, a voice aching for warmth.

Yi-hyun closed the distance immediately.

After hesitating for only a moment, Heesoo soon parted his lips for him.

The instant Yi-hyun’s tongue slipped into Heesoo’s mouth, something above them burst with a sharp pop, and the fluorescent light overhead went out completely.

Startled, Heesoo instinctively shrank back.

Yi-hyun immediately covered Heesoo’s eyes entirely with his large hand.

After flinching for a brief moment, Heesoo yielded to the weight pressing gently against him and quietly closed his eyes.

Keeping one hand over Heesoo’s eyes and wrapping the other around him, Yi-hyun looked past Heesoo’s back.

Standing there was Kim Taeyoung, who had been glaring at them with murderous intent for quite some time.

Baek Yi-hyun sneered at the man, who could do nothing but stand there and watch.

No matter how viciously Kim Taeyoung glared, he was still nothing more than a dead man.

Ignoring him completely, Yi-hyun pulled Heesoo even more tightly into his embrace, almost as if to do it deliberately where Kim Taeyoung could see.
