“Hello?”

— Oh! Cha Sa-yoon!

The caller was an old classmate, someone who had already graduated and was now worn down by the realities of working life.

“Hey, Min-gyu, it’s been a while. But I can’t drink.”

Since they had practically drowned themselves in alcohol together during their school days, Sa-yoon answered preemptively. The words sounded strange even to himself, and he couldn’t help but chuckle.

In the past, there was no way he would have turned down a drinking invitation. He had never once skipped out on one before—it felt oddly unfamiliar.

—What, are you on herbal medicine or something? But it’s not a drinking party. I’m dying these days, man. What are you up to? If you’re not busy, help me out.

His last class had been canceled due to the professor’s circumstances, so he had been about to head straight home anyway.

“What is it? Tell me first.”

—Dude, I’m seriously desperate. I’ll pay you twice the usual rate—no, three times. I really need someone right now.

His old classmate had, out of the blue, opened a sandwich shop after graduation. Sa-yoon had even sent a congratulatory flower arrangement for the opening.

At first, his friend had struggled like any small business owner, but then a popular idol had posted on social media about only eating sandwiches from that shop while dieting, and the place had exploded in popularity.

Now, it seemed that one of his part-time workers had suddenly bailed on him for tonight. His raspy voice practically oozed desperation.

Sa-yoon only heard one thing amid his long-winded plea.

“Triple the pay?”

—Dude, I’d take a cat’s paw if I could right now. If you can’t do it, can you introduce someone else? Got any juniors who aren’t busy? It’s not even exam season yet, right?

Sa-yoon suddenly recalled the update notice he had seen yesterday.

The in-game shop had just added the newly released “War God’s Supply Box,” which contained new weapons and appearance items.

The designs were a bit too combat-oriented for his taste, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t collect them. As a look collector, he had an obligation to complete his catalog.

The drop rate for both the weapon and the appearance avatar was 2%. If he opened around 200 to 250 boxes, he should be able to get both without much trouble.

Each box cost 3,900 won. To open 250 boxes, he would need about a million won.

On top of that, today was one of the rare days Sa Shin-jae was skipping theater club practice.

Sleep or money? The answer was obvious.

After making a quick calculation, Sa-yoon answered.

So much for getting to bed early tonight.

Pulling up the map app, he easily searched for the directions to the shop and hopped onto the bus. The ride from campus to the store took about 20 minutes.

Even though it was a bit early for students to be heading home in full force, the bus was still packed—probably because it was on such a prime route. Sa-yoon settled near the driver’s seat.

“…Huh?”

At the next stop, North Gate, a familiar face got on.

Sa Shin-jae.

The moment he spotted Sa-yoon, his expression twitched ever so slightly.

Here we go again.

Sa Shin-jae had always been overly conscious of people’s eyes. It had been that way since they were kids—he just seemed particularly sensitive to being watched.

Sa Shin-jae looked like he wanted to get as far away from Sa-yoon as possible, but after just one more stop, a flood of students had boarded the bus.

Realizing there was no space left to move further inside, he turned back around.

But the front door area was just as packed with people. There was nowhere to go—neither forward nor backward.

Seeing this, Sa-yoon grinned.

“So, you take this bus too?”

“……”

“I thought you lived on your own?”

At that, Sa Shin-jae shot him a look like he was staring at an insect.

“Don’t talk to me in public.”

“Oh, you’ve got a real talent for ventriloquism.”

Sa-yoon’s gaze dropped to Shin-jae’s lower face, fascinated by how he spoke without barely moving his lips.

“Ah, don’t push!”

The moment Shin-jae took a step back in exasperation, the passenger behind him let out an irritated yell.

“Haa…”

With a weary sigh, Shin-jae ran a hand down his face.

“Fucking hell.”

This time, he didn’t even say it out loud—he just mouthed the words in silent frustration.

Sa-yoon’s lips curled mischievously. Too bad for him. The more Shin-jae hated this, the more Sa-yoon wanted to mess with him.

“I thought I wouldn’t see you today, but I’m glad we met like this. Don’t you think?”

Whispering the words while leaning in just slightly, Sa-yoon finally got what he wanted—Shin-jae’s face scrunched up in absolute misery.

—Ding-dong! New order from Food Tribe!

You bastard. You said I just needed to help out a little…

At the relentless chime of incoming delivery orders, Sa-yoon’s face twisted in horror.

He hadn’t even had time to properly greet his old classmate before being thrown straight into work, donning an apron and learning how to stack sandwiches like a machine.

Two hours flew by as he mechanically assembled sandwiches, barely keeping up with the constant flood of orders. His back ached from bending over the whole time.

“Min-gyu, be honest with me.”

—Ding-dong! New order from Food Tribe!

“…What?”

—Ding-dong! New order from Food Tribe!

“This place was on TV recently, wasn’t it? Be real. How the hell are two people supposed to handle this?”

No matter how much experience he had with part-time jobs, there was a limit to what a human could handle. To Sa-yoon, the number of incoming orders was just insane.

They had already called for an extra hand, but thanks to rush hour, their reinforcement was running late.

“Ah, well… actually, a YouTuber did come by and film here before, but— Oh! Welcome! Here, take this with you.”

—Ding-dong! New order from Food Tribe!

The notification sound chimed like an interlude in their conversation. And as many orders as there were, just as many delivery drivers came and went.

Sa-yoon shook his head and got back to making sandwiches.

Another hour passed. He finally had a moment to breathe. But his tyrannical employer wasn’t about to let that slide.

“Sa-yoon, can you run to the convenience store and grab a tray of eggs?”

“From the convenience store? A tray? You mean the ten-pack, right?”

“No, the full thirty-pack. I buy them from there all the time.”

Wow. Top-tier inventory management.

Min-gyu handed him a card without even looking up. And honestly, Sa-yoon couldn’t even complain—Min-gyu was drowning in work.

Mixing shredded cabbage into the last of the egg batter and sprinkling in some pepper, the guy already looked completely dead inside.

The convenience store was just a block away, right around the corner. As soon as Sa-yoon stepped inside, he spotted three trays of thirty-count eggs stacked neatly on the bottom shelf of the fresh food section.

He carefully piled them into his arms and moved to the next aisle.

Fuck, this is exhausting.

No such thing as easy money. He should’ve known the moment Min-gyu offered triple the usual pay.

At least he could grab a couple of energy drinks to share.

But just as he reached for them, he realized—

someone else was already standing there.

“……”

It was Sa Shin-jae.

Dressed in comfortable training clothes, he was casually picking out a drink when he turned and gave Sa-yoon a look that practically screamed, What the hell is this now?

After the past few days of conditioning, Sa-yoon’s mouth acted on instinct the moment he saw Shin-jae.

“Shin-jae, hey!”

Shin-jae’s face immediately twisted into a scowl.

The moment Sa-yoon saw that reaction, he knew—this guy had completely misunderstood something.

“Hey! This isn’t wha—”

The way Shin-jae charged forward looked like a raging bull about to flatten someone.

Sa-yoon instinctively tried to step aside in the narrow aisle to give him space, but—

“Ah, fuck!”

Shin-jae slammed into his shoulder as he passed.

Even if someone picked a fight in the street, they wouldn’t shoulder-check this hard.

Sa-yoon wasn’t small, but Shin-jae was built like a wall, and the impact hit like a damn fridge door swinging full force.

What the hell, is he some kind of thug?

He hadn’t expected a full-blown shoulder tackle, so he took the hit completely unprepared—and paid the price.

The stacks of eggs in his arms went flying.

Ninety eggs smashed against the floor, yolks spilling out through shattered shells, making an absolute mess.

“You fucking soulless bastard… Hey!”

But Shin-jae was already gone, slipping out the door without so much as a backward glance.
