# Chapter 4
“You don’t have any friends, right?”
“What…?”
“I mean, you smell so rotten and can’t even control it properly, so you must be a recessive type… Do you go to a regular school? Or a specialized high school?”
The man quietly answered that he attended a specialized high school. Oh my. I made the most sympathetic face I could.
“That must be so hard. Oh, not for you, but for the people around you. It would be better if they were Betas, but since you go to a trait specialized high school… If anyone gets even a little close to you, they’ll smell dried squid fishiness.”
I pointed at the three Alphas and said:
“The three of you should be friends forever. Squid pancake wind-dried fishy smell, rotten egg smell. Is this land, sea, and air combination? You three match perfectly. Just date each other.”
They frowned as if annoyed. But because of the pheromones I was emitting, they could only exhale hot breaths and bury their heads on the table.
“Excuse me… customer.”
It was when I was glaring at the three idiots. Someone tapped my shoulder. When I turned my head, there was an employee with a troubled expression.
“I’m sorry, but we’ve received complaints about your pheromones…”
“Ah, I’m sorry.”
I bowed my head and partially withdrew my pheromones. I signaled to Kim Bojin and the two Omegas to leave and smiled at the employee.
“Sorry for disrupting your business. We’ll leave now.”
“Oh, no! There’s no need to apologize…”
We came out of the restaurant like a string of sausages.
The cold winter air cleared my head. After smelling those disgusting scents from those animals in heat, my stomach had been churning. I sprayed the pheromone neutralizer I brought all over our bodies as if pouring it out. Only after using up a whole bottle could I finally breathe.
“It felt like experiencing a chemical attack. Now I can finally live.”
When I said this, the kids looked at each other and suddenly started laughing loudly.
“Squid pancake smell…”
“Right. Those jerks. They don’t think about their own scent but criticize ours.”
“That was so satisfying. Thanks, Yuri.”
They praised me while laughing heartily. I felt a bit embarrassed receiving thanks for something that wasn’t really a big deal.
“No… well… it was nothing.”
“Well, the group date is ruined. What should we do now?”
What to do now. Truly the most important question. But I had just met these kids. It felt awkward to be the first to suggest doing something.
So everyone was just looking at each other, waiting for someone else to speak.
Kim Bojin, like a triumphant general, stood up straight and proudly shouted at us.
“Just follow me. I’ll take you to fun places.”
We looked at Kim Bojin with eyes full of expectation. He led us out to the main street with a serious attitude.
Maybe because it was Christmas, the main street was full of people. My face automatically frowned. And it was the same for Kim Bojin and the others.
“…I didn’t know our country had this many people. All that talk about low birth rates must be lies.”
“I agree.”
“But there are still plenty of ways to enjoy even in this situation.”
Kim Bojin spoke like an enlightened Buddha.
“Like what?”
“Let’s try a change in perspective, guys.”
We listened to his whispers like pitiful lambs.
❖ ❖ ❖
“Crazy guys… they said they were Kim Bojin’s friends.”
Indeed, birds of a feather flock together was science.
I came home after having a party celebrating Solo Christmas with three Omegas. The four of us Omegas hung out together with bitter tastes in our mouths, went to a karaoke room, walked along Garosu-gil… I couldn’t even remember exactly what we did. We walked around until we were completely exhausted.
Even though it was almost midnight, no one was home. It felt a little lonely compared to the noisy fun just before.
I went to my room, changed my clothes, and flopped down on the bed. Looking up at the high ceiling, I suddenly thought that I was adapting very well to this world.
For the Alphas and Omegas in this book world, male and female didn’t matter at all. It was just about traits, that was all, and no one found it strange. And that applied to me as well.
I never thought I could like men… but I wasn’t homophobic either, anyway.
Just as everyone has their own ideal type, there are preferences for pheromone scents for each person. Should I call this instinct or what?
Kim Bojin liked Alphas with refreshing scents. As for my preference… if I were to think of it in terms of perfume, I liked sweet scents. I liked flower scents and candy smells too.
And warm sun smells as well.
“Damn… what nonsense.”
The Alpha who was as sculptured as if he could give the David statue a double slap flashed through my mind and disappeared. Shocked by my instinctive imagination, I sat up in bed and pulled at my hair.
“Forget it. Forget it. Everyone else might be okay, but not him.”
But his scent was really nice…
“No. Absolutely not. Do you want to ruin your life? Do you want to walk a thorny path? The world is wide and there are many Alphas. If you eat just anyone because you’re lonely, you’ll get a stomachache.”
Right. Alphas and Omegas are beasts faithful to their instincts. I could be attracted because of pheromones. But nothing more. Just human-to-human attraction. Let’s stop there.
It was when I was muttering to myself, feeling a Gestalt breakdown.
“Knock knock. Is the deeply troubled Yeon Yuri in?”
I heard my Noona’s voice. Turning my head, I saw her neatly dressed as if she had just arrived home.
“What? You’re early. Weren’t you going to spend the day with your boyfriend?”
“Oh ho. You’re an adult now, huh? What were you planning to do while I was gone from home?”
“Let’s not talk about that.”
“Put away your pheromones. Your room smells so strongly of roses it’s like a fart.”
Hearing Noona’s words, I looked around. My scent was everywhere. I calmed my mind and contained my pheromones.
“So. Why did you come home early?”
“Because I didn’t want my precious little sibling to spend a lonely Christmas. I thought you’d be stuck at home alone since you lost your memory and don’t have friends.”
“That… hurts…”
I grabbed my heart with my hand and made a bitter expression. Noona told me to stop being ridiculous.
“It looks like you had a good time. I worried for nothing.”
She nodded as if convincing herself.
“Ah. You know there’s a family dinner this Thursday, right?”
“Yes, I know. I was exhausted trying to refuse Kim Bojin who was going crazy about going to a club because of that.”
“Good. That’s all I needed to know. Come to KP Hotel. Mom and Dad will go straight to the hotel from work. Me too.”
“Yes, yes.”
“Can’t you answer properly? Don’t you want a birthday present next year?”
“No, Noona. This humble little brother is extremely grateful for informing me of the location.”
Noona snickered and left the room. I rolled around on the bed like a sloth and fell into thought.
Noona was really a great person. When I had just possessed Yeon Yuri and was repeating “who are you?” like a crazy person, Noona dropped everything and stayed by my side. Pheromone control methods and knowledge about secondary sex characteristics were all taught by Noona.
Yeon Yuri is almost twenty and Yeon Yujeong is twenty-seven. Her baby brother was talking nonsense and losing his mind, so she must have been very worried.
I curled up my body. The bed was so soft and comfortable. But then I sighed thinking about the future ahead.
Yeon Yuri and Do Jihoon’s engagement ceremony would be held one week before orientation. So around mid-February.
Since breaking the engagement was impossible, the only way to avoid Yeon Yuri’s downfall was “not becoming obsessed with Do Jihoon.” I needed to maintain a strictly business partnership with Do Jihoon. Then naturally, there would be no trouble with Ha Minyeong either.
“Right. I can just do that.”
And after graduating from university, I should take a world tour and then live like a mosquito, sucking from Noona like a straw.
Get a building and live off the rent. While doing some hobbies. And along the way, find a pretty Alpha with a nice scent and good character to live with.
Hmm. It was an excellent plan. Just thinking about it made me damn happy.
Studying deeply? I wasn’t interested. It was much more fun and better to just read books I wanted to read at the time.
Without knowing that Noona was looking at me pathetically as I lay on the bed smiling like a fool, I fell asleep on the comfortable bed.
