No matter how much Shen Yuqing pondered, he never expected Song Wangzhuo wouldn’t remember Song Lejin.
Song Wangzhuo countered, “Should I remember him?”
Shen Yuqing opened his mouth but didn’t know how to respond. Should he?
Truthfully, perhaps it wasn’t that necessary.
After some thought, Shen Yuqing couldn’t help but mutter, “That day when he bumped into you, I thought you remembered him.”
After all, Lin Sui later took Song Lejin to the bar, vowing to settle the score though in the end, Shen Yuqing had defused the situation.
It was just an offhand remark, but to his surprise, Song Wangzhuo replied calmly, “Every year, countless Omegas accidentally bump into me. Am I supposed to remember each one clearly?”
Something about those words struck Shen Yuqing as odd. He turned to look at Song Wangzhuo, who happened to be gazing back at him.
His eyes landed abruptly on Song Wangzhuo’s face.
Song Wangzhuo was strikingly handsome. From the moment Shen Yuqing had transmigrated into this world and seen him being dragged over by bodyguards, he’d been stunned by his beauty.
Now, face-to-face again, Shen Yuqing couldn’t help but swallow hard.
What Song Wangzhuo said made sense with so many people running into him, how could he possibly remember every single one?
Shen Yuqing snapped out of his daze and turned forward, letting out a dry, “Oh. Right. But he’s different.”
“How is he different?” Song Wangzhuo pressed.
Shen Yuqing scratched his neck, then his nape, struggling before finally blurting out, “He’s the one Lin Sui likes.”
Though Song Wangzhuo didn’t recall Song Lejin, he knew Lin Sui.
At Shen Yuqing’s words, it dawned on him that Lin Sui who had been practically glued to his side these past few days had indeed become scarce lately.
Shen Yuqing added, “Plus, he’s really popular on social media. Even on our school forum, the day he transferred, the whole place exploded. Don’t you ever check it?”
“No interest,” Song Wangzhuo replied. “No time either.”
Shen Yuqing pouted. What a way to say “no interest”!
But thinking about it, Song Wangzhuo was either in class or working, either on his way to class or on his way to work.
He utilized every spare minute. Was he some kind of workaholic?
Shen Yuqing asked, “Then what do you usually do in your free time?”
“Sleep. Read. Exercise.” All activities that didn’t cost much money. Occasionally, if he had time and a little extra cash, he’d buy ingredients to treat himself.
As for the social media Shen Yuqing mentioned, he didn’t even have those apps on his phone.
Shen Yuqing remarked, “So disciplined.”
The only thing they had in common was sleeping.
As they chatted, they arrived at the tutoring session—
No, rather, at Song Wangzhuo’s home.
Shen Yuqing watched as Song Wangzhuo used his iris to unlock the door. Stepping inside, he noticed the place hadn’t changed much.
Glancing around, he saw the kitchen had been stocked with quite a few new items.
Song Wangzhuo entered behind him. Shen Yuqing turned and said, “Oh, by the way, you should change the door code.”
Song Wangzhuo looked at him but didn’t respond immediately.
Shen Yuqing explained, “I told Xiao Zhao not to come unless you or I call for him. But after some thought, it’d be safer if you changed the passcode. After all, this is your home now.”
Your home.
Those three words made Song Wangzhuo’s heart tremble slightly. He lowered his gaze and continued listening as Shen Yuqing said, “Besides, I come with you every time, so there’s no need for a password. You’re also home on weekends to open the door.”
He had completely designated this place as Song Wangzhuo’s private space.
Sitting at his desk, Shen Yuqing picked up the test papers lying there and sighed deeply. With matters occupying him all weekend, his study progress had slowed. He wasn’t sure if he could catch up today.
Turning his head, he noticed Song Wangzhuo fiddling with something by the door probably changing the lock.
Just as Shen Yuqing picked up his pen to start working on the papers, Song Wangzhuo called out, “Shen Yuqing, come here.”
“What’s up?” Shen Yuqing stood and walked over. Song Wangzhuo stepped aside, gesturing for him to stand before the iris recognition scanner.
A beep sounded, the iris scan was successfully recorded.
Shen Yuqing looked at Song Wangzhuo in confusion. He’d known about the iris unlock feature when renting the apartment but found the setup troublesome, so he’d always used the password instead. After letting Song Wangzhuo stay here two days ago, he hadn’t given the feature another thought.
Now that Song Wangzhuo had proactively set up the iris lock for him, he was somewhat baffled.
Understanding his confusion, Song Wangzhuo said, “This apartment is yours to begin with.”
Shen Yuqing had been willing to help him out due to their tutoring arrangement. Moreover, after clearing up a long-standing misunderstanding the other day, Song Wangzhuo realized Shen Yuqing wasn’t as bad as he’d thought.
He was just raised to be somewhat spoiled.
For a wealthy family’s child, being pampered and temperamental wasn’t unusual. In fact, compared to others Song Wangzhuo had met, Shen Yuqing could be considered quite normal.
All in all, Song Wangzhuo was now willing to get along with him properly.
Unaware of the thoughts running through Song Wangzhuo’s mind, Shen Yuqing simply said, “I told you to stay, so just stay without worries.”
Song Wangzhuo had already bent down and swiftly changed the password.
After closing the door, he said, “0615.”
“What?” Shen Yuqing was puzzled.
“The password,” Song Wangzhuo replied.
Well, now he’d even told him the password outright.
Just as Shen Yuqing was about to say something, Song Wangzhuo continued, “Consider the apartment as rented from you. I’ll transfer the money in a few days.”
What was this sudden talk of renting?
Shen Yuqing wanted to refuse, but meeting Song Wangzhuo’s gaze made the words stick in his throat. Song Wangzhuo had his own principles.
After a moment’s thought, Shen Yuqing asked, “How much was your previous rent?”
“Twelve hundred,” Song Wangzhuo answered. That apartment had actually been the best value he’d found in Silino, but there was nothing he could do if the landlord wanted it back.
“Then let’s make it three thousand a month,” Shen Yuqing said. “I won’t pay you today’s wages.”
Song Wangzhuo received a daily rate three thousand regardless of tutoring hours, with a base payment of one thousand if classes were canceled due to Shen Yuqing’s reasons. Sometimes Song Wangzhuo wondered if Shen Yuqing was running a charity.
Shen Yuqing spread his hands: “I understand your perspective, but I’m simply looking for a reliable tutor to improve my grades. Honestly, you’re not taking advantage of me. Given my current academic standing, most tutors in the market would struggle to guarantee helping me reach my goal of ranking within the top 800 by semester’s end. Many would refuse outright, while others might just give it a half-hearted attempt, they’d get paid regardless of results anyway.”
Song Wangzhuo studied him as Shen continued: “But you’re different, Song Wangzhuo.”
With a bright smile, Shen added: “From what I know of you, you’d give 100% effort in teaching me. Look, we’ve had less than a week of tutoring sessions, barely eight hours total, yet today I could already follow along in class. Though not fully grasping everything yet, given time, I’m certain I’ll comprehend lectures immediately.”
That morning, Song had observed Shen’s complete transformation no more pencil-chewing daydreams or desk-napping during lessons.
Stepping closer, Shen patted his shoulder: “Truthfully, I’m getting the better end of this deal.”
His frank delivery made it seem Song was the one overthinking things. In that moment, Song found his impression of Shen deepening considerably. This wasn’t some spoiled young master rather, someone with remarkable clarity of judgment.
“Enough hesitation,” Shen declared, moving toward the study desk. “Let’s begin. Rest assured, you’re absolutely worth every penny of this tutoring fee.”
As Shen reseated himself, Song pressed his lips together, fetching two glasses of water from the kitchen before returning. This time, he took the seat beside Shen.
“Last week we prepared for tests. No time for full papers today you’ll have thirty minutes to complete just the major problems…”
The tutoring session passed swiftly.
With each passing minute, Shen grew more convinced of his brilliant decision. Song explained concepts more clearly than teachers, possessed infinite patience despite his usual reticence, and demonstrated extraordinary attentiveness willing to re-explain tirelessly until Shen fully absorbed each lesson point.
Shen thought: This money couldn’t be better spent.
A true win-win situation.
