I should have realized my life was screwed the last time he came to our school gate with his posse, looking all magnificent as if they were going to start a school fight, using the excuse of wanting to see me.
I frowned as I caught my breath. My chest felt tight and my head was dizzy. Do Yunhyuk confidently led me—still panting—to a nearby store, bought water, and handed it to me.
“Drink.”

“Not going to drink? Should I make you drink it?”
It wasn’t a threat, but a literal innocent question. I couldn’t believe it. It’s not that I was deliberately refusing to take it—I was just trying to catch my breath! Couldn’t he see that?
But fearing what this crazy guy might do next, I quickly took the water bottle he offered.
Why are there only weirdos like this in this novel?
I finally calmed down and opened the bottle, forcing myself to drink. I had desperately run to keep up with Yunhyuk’s fast pace to avoid falling, and even after stopping, my legs were still trembling.
“Why are your legs shaking like that?”

Do Yunhyuk grinned mischievously.

“I’m hungry, so let’s eat something first.”

And just like before, Yunhyuk dragged me into a nearby hamburger chain restaurant. I tried to resist by planting my feet firmly on the ground, but it was meaningless. With his incredible strength, I was pulled along like a wheeled suitcase.
“What do you want to eat?”
“I’m full, so I don’t—”
“I don’t like bulgogi burgers. They taste too artificial.”

I slowly backed away while watching Yunhyuk’s face as he suddenly expressed his food preferences. I was still confused about what was happening.
Surely he didn’t bring me here just because he needed someone to eat with?
“Hurry up and choose. I’m hungry.”

“That’s why you’re so scrawny.”
I was speechless. What am I supposed to do about that…
I quickly scanned the menu, but having just eaten at the group date, nothing appealed to me. To begin with, I didn’t like these Lotteria burgers. If we’re talking hamburgers, isn’t Burger Queen better?
“…What are you going to eat?”
“Me? I’m obviously getting the crab burger.”
Crab burger? First time I’d heard of it. I wasn’t very familiar with Lotteria, but did they have such a menu item? I quickly searched for the crab burger on the menu, and found a description saying it contained crab meat.

Do Yunhyuk tapped my cheek with his long fingers and smirked.
“SpongeBob eats this burger too. You should try it.”

Without waiting for my answer, Yunhyuk stuck his hands in his pockets, sauntered over to the counter, and came back after paying for two crab burger sets.
‘Is he treating me? Why?’
Yunhyuk pulled me to a table in the restaurant. He rested his chin on his hand and began to observe my face as if examining a curiosity. My heart fluttered nervously.
But just trembling indefinitely wasn’t in my nature. I had to do something, for better or worse. I clenched my fist, gathered my courage, and asked Yunhyuk:
“Why did you bring me here? To beat me up?”
I asked him while slowly catching my breath.
He couldn’t have brought me here just to eat. In a situation where I had no idea why he was buying me hamburgers, I was attempting to negotiate in a way that might benefit me.
I had asked the question prepared for anything, but Yunhyuk looked at me as if I was asking something stupid.
“I just kidnapped you, that’s all.”
“What?”
“Just because I was bored. Let’s hang out.”
…Hang out?
“Why? Don’t you want to hang out with me?”
“……”
“But I borrowed you directly from Seong Haemin.”
“……”
“Are you worried I might hit you? I absolutely won’t. How could I raise my fist against someone as pretty as you? I’m not that kind of guy.”
‘Is he crazy?’
I regret criticizing the Four Kings for their cringeworthy dialogue. I thought Seoyeon High’s Four Kings and Jeseong High’s star Do Yunhyuk were similarly annoying… but this guy was a weirdo in a different way.
This was exactly why I felt aversion toward the character of Do Yunhyuk. He had no common sense that applied to normal human interaction! Even though we were clearly conversing, it didn’t feel like we were communicating at all.
“Since we’ve successfully escaped the Four Kings’ sight, what should we do after eating? Do you like amusement parks?”
“……”
“Hmm, no response. You don’t like amusement parks?”

As if he was serious about hanging out with me, Yunhyuk put his fist under his chin and began pondering deeply about what to do next. I was so dumbfounded that my nose felt numb, like I’d eaten a truckload of wasabi.
“Would you prefer something more exciting? How about a club? They don’t open during the day though. So you want to stay with me until nighttime. I’m fine with that.”

“Then let’s save the club for next time. How about a karaoke place? Or an arcade? What do you like? A manga cafe? What else is there?”
I stared at the human in front of me with an expression like I’d stepped in dog poop.
‘What exactly does he want from me?’
In my memory, Do Yunhyuk was a vile and pathetic person. I tried my hardest to figure out his intentions. But nothing was clear. He truly seemed to have no thoughts at all.
‘…Is this really the Do Yunhyuk I know?’
I even started to wonder this. At this point, could he be someone with the same name?
When I didn’t answer, Yunhyuk looked at me with downturned eyes.
“I’m doing this because I want to get close to you. Ah, do you dislike me because I’m from Jeseong High? Then should I cause trouble and transfer to Seoyeon High? It’s a bit dangerous, but if I can be with you, I think I could be prepared for it.”
Is he really insane?
“No.”
“I see. You don’t want me to be in danger?”
At my firm response, Yunhyuk grinned and reached out to ruffle my hair. Looking at his smiling, handsome face, I wasn’t sure if my answer was interpreted as agreeing to his transfer or rejecting the idea.
Just then, the vibrating buzzer went off, indicating our hamburgers were ready, and Yunhyuk quickly got up to retrieve them.
Watching his swaggering back as he walked away, I suddenly remembered that Do Yunhyuk was referred to as a “mad dog” in the novel. Was that “mad dog” not in the sense of being “mad about fighting,” but literally meaning he was crazy?
In fact, in the novel, Do Yunhyuk was truly a pathetic guy. A completely senseless person who even committed criminal acts!
Although it wasn’t yet the time in the novel’s timeline for the major confrontation with Seoyeon High, later on, Yunhyuk would go as far as kidnapping Ban Pyoran in order to defeat Seoyeon High’s Four Kings in some kind of nationwide… what was it, a gang fight?
While reading, I wondered why he would go to such lengths, all for some kind of ranking.
Seeing how he’s acting now, I’m starting to wonder if he even knows the meaning of the word “ranking.”
‘I don’t get it.’
I gave up trying to understand this guy with my common sense and knowledge.
Anyway, Do Yunhyuk was a friend of Ban Seo-i, the novel’s typical villainess, and he was someone who would target Ban Pyoran to bring down the Four Kings. He was definitely a despicable villain who would do things like using a jackknife when the opponent was just using their fists.
“Here, eat.”
“……”
Do Yunhyuk, who had placed the tray on the table, began eating his burger heartily despite his appearance that suggested he would pick at his food daintily. Each time the burger entered his large mouth, half of it disappeared.
‘Is there anything in his brain at all?’
I was dumbfounded. Without touching the burger he had bought for me, I just watched him.
“Hmm? What’s wrong? Want me to feed you?”
Yunhyuk, who had been eating his burger, looked at me with a grin as if he were wagging an invisible tail.
Seeing his actual behavior… despite his finely crafted face, his brain seemed to be made of rocks. There was too much discrepancy with the character I knew beforehand. I wondered how this person could come up with such vile schemes. No wait, this is probably why he did everything Ban Seo-i told him to do.
I shook my head resignedly. Yunhyuk went back to focusing on his burger. He must have been hungry, chomping away enthusiastically.
“No.”
“Why?”
“I’m full.”
“You should have said so earlier.”

“Can’t be helped then. I’ll eat it all.”

“But at least drink your cola.”
He was truly a madman, though in a different way from Min Sihu. While Min Sihu deliberately acted cute and spouted silly lines that sounded like he had learned them at some academy, this guy did whatever he pleased without caring about his surroundings. Judging by his behavior, he clearly lived without thinking about tomorrow.
I stared blankly at Yunhyuk as he ate his hamburger.
I had thought he was trying to create conflict with the Four Kings by using me, but watching him now, that didn’t seem to be the case. Moreover, his statement about transferring to Seoyeon High, which was at odds with Jeseong High, didn’t sound like a joke.
I felt ridiculous for being so tense around such an idiot. Suddenly feeling tired, I lowered my guard and asked:
“But… why do you want to be friends with me?”
Yunhyuk stared at me after hearing my question.
Why is he looking at me like that?
