Chapter 12

In less than half a day, the upper echelons of Planet F31 had all heard about it, General Qi’s seemingly innocent and harmless young lover was actually quite sarcastic, to the point of making Chairman Qiao’s daughter cry in frustration.

Completely unaware of these events, Xia Ze had already returned to the flower shop. Just as General Qi Jing’s subordinates arrived to report on their tasks, he graciously gave up the living room for their use.

After resting for a while, Xia Ze removed his mask and headed to the small greenhouse to prepare the potted plants and fresh flowers he planned to sell during his evening livestream.

Qi Jing was usually swamped with work. Even though he had declined most of his commitments, military affairs still demanded his attention.

His four assistants had been busy for the past couple of days. The moment they stepped into Xia Ze’s home, one of them instinctively remarked, “I don’t know why, but Madam’s home feels incredibly soothing.”

The red-haired female Alpha assistant, Ding Ruijie, chimed in, “It must be because of all the greenery.”

She and her twin brother, Ding Ruimu, were both Alphas serving as General Qi’s assistants.

Ding Ruimu looked around and also noticed the abundance of plants in the room.

However, greenery capable of restoring the mental energy of top-tier Alphas like them was rare even on the central planet.

Could General Qi’s spouse really be that skilled, capable of cultivating such plants?

The other two assistants, Xu Chuan and Lei Chen, were also present. Aside from Xu Chuan, who was a Beta, Lei Chen was an Alpha.

Though their responsibilities varied, they were all key figures in the military, with mental energy far more acute than the average person’s.

Xu Chuan added, “Even though I’m a Beta and can’t sense mental energy recovery, I can still tell how relaxing it is to be here.”

Meanwhile, Lei Chen had already latched onto a potted plant, refusing to let go, clearly determined to take one home with him.

Qi Jing glanced at them and said coolly, “Should I send you all back to the central planet?”

The four immediately straightened up, Lei Chen still clutching the plant.

No way!

They absolutely couldn’t go back now!

The central planet was still fuming over General Qi’s actions!

Though they didn’t dare come bother the general or his team for the time being, and wouldn’t publicize the matter, as the general’s assistants, returning now would mean being dragged into endless interrogations!

It would be maddening!

Seeing them properly chastened, Qi Jing pointed at the plant in Lei Chen’s arms. Reluctantly, Lei Chen set it down. Normally the quietest of the group, he now spoke up, “Can I ask Madam if I could buy a plant?”

“And what would you do with it? You can’t keep it alive,” Ding Ruijie retorted. “It’d die in a couple of days. Pointless.”

“Like you could do any better,” her brother Ding Ruimu shot back reflexively.

Xu Chuan intervened, “Stop. You can’t keep them alive either.”

This was one of the biggest issues with greenery.

While it did help restore mental and physical energy, and they could technically afford to splurge on it, the problem was they couldn’t keep the plants alive.

Spending hundreds of thousands of interstellar credits on a plant, only for it to die within days, was unsustainable even for high-ranking military officials.

As the bickering threatened to escalate, Qi Jing released a wave of pheromones. Even Xu Chuan, a Beta who was less sensitive to pheromones, felt the pressure, let alone the other Alphas.

Normally, they wouldn’t act like this. But with the recent downtime, they knew the general wouldn’t actually get angry over such trivial matters, hence the slight boldness.

Immediately, the four snapped back to attention and began delivering their reports, their demeanor shifting from playful to dead serious in an instant.

The main planet remained unchanged, unable to accept an abruptly appearing Omega becoming the Imperial General’s wife, so this news wasn’t widely publicized.

Outsiders only knew that the General was about to have a fiancée, but the specifics of who it was remained undisclosed.

This also highlighted the cunning of the main planet and the A-grade planetary nobility, since the name hadn’t been announced, there was still room for them to maneuver.

The military remained stable as usual, firmly under Qi Jing’s control, with virtually no issues arising.

It was precisely because of Qi Jing’s absolute authority over the military that so many families wanted to marry their Omegas to him, no wonder even the Empress’s family coveted the position.

Qi Jing listened and remarked, “They’re certainly becoming more and more ambitious.”

His four aides caught the sarcasm in his tone. Everyone in the military had climbed their way up from the bottom, even the General had started as a common soldier.

Having earned their merits through sheer capability, they naturally looked down on those who sought power through flattery.

While Qi Jing was still handling documents, Xia Ze had already selected the potted plants and flowers he would sell that evening.

This time, he planned to sell twenty small potted plants and ten flowers.

He intended to gradually increase the quantity, aiming to sell everything as quickly as possible.

Xia Ze carefully tended to his little greenhouse, feeling a pang of reluctance at the thought of leaving it.

After transplanting the plants, he settled at the workbench inside the greenhouse to prepare them.

Considering the long-distance transport and the perishability of the plants and flowers, he had to be extra meticulous in handling them.

Absorbed in his work, Xia Ze didn’t notice the man in the living room shifting his gaze from official documents to watch him through the glass walls of the greenhouse.

The four aides paused, following the General’s line of sight. Among them, Ding Ruijie, the one with the strongest mental energy, was the first to sense something unusual. “My mental energy… it feels like it’s being soothed.”

At her words, the other three excluding the Beta Xu Chuan immediately closed their eyes, carefully attuning themselves to the gentle aura in the air.

A natural, life-affirming energy enveloped them.

Alphas who had spent long years on the battlefield all bore some degree of mental energy damage.

And this natural essence, like the legendary spring rain, quietly healed their strained psyches.

Qi Jing also stood up. This was his first time witnessing Xia Ze working with plants up close, and as a top-tier Alpha, his perception far surpassed that of ordinary people.

He could even see faint green specks of light drifting in the air though indistinct, they were undeniably real.

The next moment, the natural energy abruptly dissipated, snapping everyone back to reality. The sole Beta among them, Xu Chuan, felt his restored stamina and was left in disbelief.

The Alphas, meanwhile, burned with fervor in their eyes.

The effects of the plants were incredible!

They used to mock those who spent fortunes on greenery as wasteful now they realized they simply hadn’t understood the luxury.

Their restless mental energy had been instantly calmed. If this could be used on the battlefield, soldiers’ combat effectiveness would skyrocket.

This was something that could safeguard lives they had to buy it! At any cost!

Even if the plants died after a few days, it would be worth going bankrupt for!

Xia Ze looked up to find the General’s four aides staring at him or rather, at the plants in his hands with eager, pleading eyes.

Qi Jing sighed helplessly. He understood how crucial mental energy recovery was for soldiers, and since his immediate tasks were mostly completed, he couldn’t be bothered to intervene.

The dashing red-haired Alpha, Ding Ruijie, stepped forward eagerly. With a bright smile directed at the young man before her, she said, “General’s wife, could you sell me that potted plant in your hands? I’ll transfer the money right now!”

Xia Ze had expected they might need the plants, but this form of address was completely unexpected.

Since when was he the general’s wife???

In an instant, Xia Ze’s face flushed crimson. Stop calling me that!

Just thinking about a man getting pregnant leaves Xia Ze completely blank inside. All he wants is to quietly grow flowers on this low-tier planet, occasionally stream from his cozy little courtyard, and live a peaceful, uneventful life. But unexpectedly, the Empire’s General personally requested to marry him. And even asked him to pretend to be an omega. Xia Ze had been acting like a beta his whole life. Now the General mistakenly thinks he is a real beta and wants him to act like an omega for their marriage? Xia Ze puts on a quiet smile, though he’s crying inside, as the General earnestly explains how to behave like an omega. For example, wear lace-trimmed clothing, speak softly and gently, drink tea with elegance. Most importantly, the General teaches him how to fake a pregnancy. Xia Ze holds back his frustration. After all, he owes the General a big favor. He just needs to wait until the General returns from the battlefield. Then, he can get a divorce and finally live freely. But as time passes, Xia Ze touches his belly and pauses. It feels like he might actually be pregnant. Apparently a certain plant had something to do with it. As the planned divorce date approaches, Xia Ze decides to hide the truth. Returning to his flower shop and raising the baby on the quiet planet might not be so bad. Just as he finally relaxes in his courtyard, the General comes back from the battlefield. Looking grim, he leaves his victory banquet in front of everyone and heads straight to Xia Ze’s front door. On the StarNet livestream, billions of interstellar citizens watch the normally stoic General hesitating outside his spouse’s home. Comments flood in: "Why is he so anxious? Just knock already." "Wait a minute, this kind of alpha actually has a wife?" "You were so brave when fighting the Zerg, and now you can't even knock on a door?" "This is driving me crazy, knock now!" "Hold on, this courtyard looks familiar. Isn’t this the flower shop owner’s place?" As the viewers grind their teeth in frustration, they finally realize something. Who wouldn’t want a beautiful partner who can grow plants that soothe mental energy? Why did it have to be you who ended up with him? Qi Jing raises his eyes and says coldly, "If anyone’s unhappy about it, they’re welcome to challenge me to a duel." Silence falls across the stream. No one dares fight the Empire’s General. Fine, whatever. We might as well wish them a long and happy life together.   One-Sentence Summary: He even made me pretend to be pregnant. Core Message: Face life with a smile. No matter what challenges you encounter, never be afraid.
