#58
Eun Sajun crossed his arms and tilted his head.
“So that man named Shin Taeon broke into the hospital room?”
That man named Shin Taeon? Yeoul felt something strange about his statement. According to Shin Taeon, the two had belonged to the same unit. They seemed to have been quite close, but Eun Sajun had an expression as if he was seeing him for the first time.
“After reviewing the CCTV footage, it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. We checked all the hospital entrances and exits, but there’s no footage of that man.”
“Then he handed the knife to someone else. Who is that person?”
The suffocating conversation made Yeoul feel darkness closing in before his eyes, and his whole body trembled like an aspen tree.
“We’re currently investigating. We’ve obtained all the CCTV footage and black box recordings from the route Shin Taeon took immediately after purchasing the knife. We should know within an hour.”
Yeoul’s heart dropped once more. His terrified eyes trembled more violently and his mouth went completely dry. There was a high possibility that Yeoul had been captured together with Shin Taeon on his movement route. Getting caught was now just a matter of time.
“Got it. Contact me as soon as you find out.”
“Yes, sir.”
The conversation between the two ended.
Eun Sajun approached the sedan. The closer his shadow came, the more Yeoul’s breath caught in his throat. He had barely managed to control his expression until now, but at this moment, it was impossible.
What would happen if he got caught? First, starting with deceiving about his secondary gender, his circumstances would be exposed. He could no longer stay by his side with a sound mind. Eun Sajun might harm him like he did to Baek Cheonhui, and Yeoul would resist and charge at him, but either way it would be the worst outcome.
In the midst of this, Eun Sajun began opening the door on the opposite side. Yeoul felt like he was standing at the edge of the apocalypse. Being by his side any longer was too overwhelming. He hurriedly opened the car door next to him. At the same time Eun Sajun got in, Yeoul sprang out of the car like a rubber ball.
“What the—?”
Eun Sajun’s face hardened instantly. Like cracks forming in a sculpture. And Yeoul began running as if his feet were on fire.
“Catch him!”
Eun Sajun’s roar could be heard. It was a sharp voice he had never heard before. That made Yeoul shrink even more and run with greater force.
He passed the restaurant entrance and came out onto the road. When he glanced back, Secretary Kim and the bodyguards were fiercely chasing after him. Terrified, Yeoul ran frantically. As he came out onto the road, a taxi that had just dropped off a passenger came into view.
“Excuse me!”
Yeoul desperately grabbed that taxi and threw himself into the back seat.
“Please start driving quickly!”
At Yeoul’s shout, the driver looked flustered but began picking up speed. The taxi crossed in front of the restaurant again, and he could see Eun Sajun running out from there.
At the same time, Yeoul’s eyes met his. An intensity that seemed to pull at the very end of his soul dominated his entire body. It was chilling.
“Chase that taxi!”
Eun Sajun’s voice rang out sharply once more.
The windows were definitely tinted, so how did he know exactly that he had gotten in? Or did he see him getting into the taxi? It gave him goosebumps. He decided to change his route once he got reasonably away from here.
After about 10 minutes, they entered a quiet road. Looking behind through the side mirror, he couldn’t see the sedan he had ridden with Eun Sajun. Thinking this was his chance, Yeoul asked the driver to stop and got out.
The surroundings were quiet. He could see old-style hanok houses and small fields. It was so unfamiliar that he wondered if such a countryside-like space existed in Seoul. Since it seemed good for hiding, he quickly ran into an alley.
How long had he walked? Soon a small park came into view. Yeoul sat on a bench in the park to catch his breath. Like an overturned water glass, only confusion continued frighteningly.
“Hah… Why am I really like this?”
It was only a matter of time before Eun Sajun knew his identity, and now that he had even run away, if he got caught, it would be the end. In this situation, he should meet with Shin Taeon to find a solution, but his contact wasn’t working and he had disappeared, leaving him at a loss.
“What should I do… What should I do…?”
His insides burned black and his head ached. His vision blurred and his eyelids drooped on their own. He felt like he would be consumed by darkness like this. Then he felt someone approaching. Yeoul opened his heavy eyes.
“Are you alright?”
A strange man was looking at him with concern. Yeoul tried to say he was fine, but soon couldn’t endure it and lost consciousness.
* * *
“Mmm…”
When he opened his eyes again, he saw an unfamiliar ceiling. Startled, Yeoul opened his eyes fully. And quickly surveyed his surroundings. Everything was surrounded by curtains and he could hear bustling sounds. It felt like being in a marketplace. And there was an IV drip attached to his arm.
“What?”
As he wondered, the curtain opened and someone entered.
“Oh, you’re awake?”
“Ah… Yes… Hello…”
It was the young man he had seen at the park before losing consciousness. Dark gray hair and black eyes. Reasonably broad shoulders and a solid build. Anyone could see he had neat features.
“Ah, this is the hospital emergency room. You suddenly collapsed earlier so I brought you here.”
“Ah…”
Only then did he smell the disinfectant scent brushing his nose. To think he had to be dragged to the emergency room – now he was dumbfounded.
“Thank you so much. Thanks to you, I survived.”
“Not at all. But since you didn’t have a phone or ID, we couldn’t contact your guardian. Did something bad happen to you by any chance?”
“Ah, there are just some circumstances.”
Fortunately, even without an ID, since he was registered as an omega, he could use hospital services with his citizen registration number or fingerprints. Moreover, since Eun Sajun wasn’t by his side now, there would be no problem using his real identity.
“The doctor asked me to call when you woke up. Just a moment.”
He soon drew back the curtain and left. Yeoul wondered how things had come to this and held his forehead. His head was dizzy.
“Ah…”
Heat rose in his belly again. Why was his body like this? As Yeoul clutched his stomach again, the curtain was drawn back and a white-haired elderly doctor entered. He examined Yeoul’s complexion with a quite serious face, then touched his neck. And measured his temperature with a thermometer.
Something was definitely wrong with his body, and fear rose up.
“Please wait a moment.”
The doctor drew the curtain again and left. Yeoul was nervous, wondering if he had contracted some serious illness.
“How are you feeling now?”
The young man asked carefully.
“Yes… I’m fine.”
Actually, he felt a bit nauseous, but it wasn’t difficult enough to mention. Then he let out a sigh of relief.
“That’s good. I was incredibly worried.”
“Ah, you don’t need to be.”
Yeoul bowed politely.
“I’ll repay this kindness later.”
“Not at all. It’s nothing much.”
“How can it be nothing… It must have been difficult to carry me since I’m heavy.”
“No way. You were light as a feather?”
At the man’s comparison, Yeoul was dumbfounded.
“What…”
“Haha. You’re cute.”
“Pardon?”
What was cute again? Yeoul was even more bewildered. Meanwhile, the smile didn’t leave the man’s lips.
“You seem younger than me, how old are you? I just turned twenty-one this year.”
“Oh, that’s the same as me?”
“Really?”
Yeoul nodded. The man’s cheekbones rose even higher as if ascending to heaven. Yeoul couldn’t understand why he was reacting like this.
“Since it’s come to this, let’s introduce ourselves to each other. My name is Lee Jaehyeon.”
“Ah… I’m Geum…”
Yeoul was about to blurt out his real name as if possessed, then closed his mouth. He was currently being chased, so would it be okay to tell his name? He was confused.
“If it’s difficult to tell me your name, you don’t have to.”
“I’ll tell you later.”
It seemed better to hide unnecessary traces. But he had to repay this man Lee Jaehyeon. If it weren’t for him, he might have faced even greater trouble.
“Alright.”
Lee Jaehyeon smiled gently. Meanwhile, the curtain opened and the doctor who had examined Yeoul’s condition earlier entered.
“Um…”
The doctor looked at Lee Jaehyeon and gave him a troubled look as if hinting.
“Could that gentleman please step outside for a moment?”
He had the attitude of someone about to say something serious. Yeoul felt his mouth go dry and his hands trembled.
“Did… did I contract some serious illness?”
“That’s not it. For the exact details, it seems you should go to the obstetrics and gynecology department for an examination.”
“Pardon?”
He wondered if the obstetrics and gynecology department he mentioned was the same one Yeoul knew.
“What’s wrong with me?”
Anxiety and fear came rushing in madly. The doctor licked his lips and touched his head as if troubled.
“It seems like you’re pregnant.”
“…Pardon?”
What kind of bolt from the blue was this?
“Pr-pregnant… Me?”
