The next day, Shen Yuqing was woken up by a phone call after only a short sleep.
It was Shen Zhen calling to ask about Pei Yiyan’s condition. After answering all his questions, Shen Yuqing was scolded by Shen Zhen for making Pei Yiyan exercise late at night and for both of them having nothing better to do.
This time, Shen Zhen must have been genuinely frightened. However, he was still away on a business trip and hadn’t returned yet. Shen Yuqing thought that if Shen Zhen had been in Silino, he probably would have come over with a shoe to beat him.
After calming Shen Zhen down, Shen Yuqing found himself wide awake. He got up and headed to the hospital.
The hospital was crowded during the day, and the inpatient ward was no exception.
Shen Yuqing waited through several elevator trips before finally reaching the seventh floor.
Pei Yiyan was still asleep. When Xiao Zhao saw him arrive, he tactfully went to fetch Pei Yiyan’s medication.
Shen Yuqing glanced at the pheromone monitor beside the bed—the readings were back to normal.
It seemed they could be discharged soon. Yawning, Shen Yuqing sat on the sofa to wait for Xiao Zhao’s return.
Xiao Zhao returned quickly, and Wu Yi came along with him.
Xiao Zhao explained, “Teacher Wu called me asking why no one was home, so I told him what happened, and he came over.”
Wu Yi greeted Shen Yuqing, who nodded in response.
With Pei Yiyan in this state, it was only natural that Wu Yi, his most trusted aide, would come. There wasn’t much else to explain.
Xiao Zhao had not only brought Pei Yiyan’s medication but also some topical ointment for Shen Yuqing’s injuries.
Shen Yuqing said, “No need to apply it. It’s already mostly healed.”
But Xiao Zhao insisted, “Young Master, you should apply it a few more times to speed up the recovery. Otherwise, when Master Shen returns and sees this, he’ll be heartbroken.”
Unable to refuse, Shen Yuqing rolled up his sleeves and pants for Xiao Zhao to apply the ointment.
After a night of recovery, the wounds that needed to scab had already done so. However, Shen Yuqing’s arms and legs were still covered in bruises from the fall the night before.
Xiao Zhao winced as he applied the ointment—just looking at the injuries was painful.
Soon, the treatment was done.
Seeing no signs of Pei Yiyan waking up, Shen Yuqing simply said, “I’ll head back first.”
There wasn’t much point in him staying here anyway.
Xiao Zhao said, “Would you like to wait until Young Master Pei wakes up before leaving?”
Shen Yuqing shook his head. He had only come to check on Pei Yiyan’s condition today. Since there was nothing serious, staying here would just be boring, and Pei Yiyan might not even want to see him.
After all, Pei Yiyan lying in a hospital bed suffering was partly his fault.
Xiao Zhao said, “Alright. I’ll go to the police station to give my statement after Young Master Pei wakes up.”
Shen Yuqing nodded. Before leaving, he took one last look at Pei Yiyan. With all the readings normal, he left with peace of mind.
Not long after he left, Xiao Zhao received another call from the police station, urging him to come in for his statement.
Left with no choice, he turned to Wu Yi.
Wu Yi said, “It’s fine. You go ahead. The doctors and I will keep an eye on things here.”
Xiao Zhao nodded. “Thank you, Teacher Wu.”
With that, he hurried off as well.
Wu Yi stood at the door for a while, making sure no one would return, before stepping back inside and closing the door behind him.
He walked to the bedside and said, “Young Master, they’re gone.”
Pei Yiyan, who had been lying in bed asleep, slowly opened his eyes. But they felt sore and achy, forcing him to close them again to rest for a moment. Wait a second.
Pei Yiyan suddenly opened his eyes wide. What greeted him wasn’t the familiar darkness but a faint halo of light—he could even make out the blurry figure of the person standing by the bed. What was going on?!
His eyes… were they… healing?
Wu Yi, noticing his young master opening and closing his eyes, asked in confusion, “Young Master, are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
Pei Yiyan had actually woken up not long after Shen Yuqing arrived. His head had still been throbbing at the time, so he pretended to remain asleep, waiting for Wu Yi to come.
Pei Yiyan closed his eyes again and said, “I think I can see a little light now.”
Understanding dawned on Wu Yi, and his expression relaxed. “Young Master, I—I’ll call the doctor right away.”
“No need,” Pei Yiyan stopped him. “We’ll talk about it after we leave.”
Wu Yi smacked his forehead. “Look at me, I’m so overjoyed I forgot myself.”
The fact that Pei Yiyan could see a bit of light had to be kept absolutely confidential. They had never been to this hospital before, and though they knew it had privacy protocols, they still had to be extremely cautious.
Wu Yi abandoned the idea of calling the doctor and asked instead, “Aside from your eyes, is there anywhere else you’re uncomfortable?”
Pei Yiyan shook his head. Apart from a lingering dull ache in his head, there weren’t any major issues left.
“How did I end up in the hospital?” he asked.
Wu Yi replied, “According to Xiao Zhao, it was Young Master Shen who brought you here. He couldn’t get a taxi, so he carried you all the way.”
Recalling what he had seen earlier, he added, “Young Master Shen seemed to have taken a fall too—his arms and legs were covered in bruises.”
Shen Yuqing carried him here?
Last night, he had been in such agony that his mind was completely muddled, but he did recall being on someone’s back.
Could it really have been Shen Yuqing? No way.
Pei Yiyan quickly dismissed the thought. There was no way Shen Yuqing would be that kind-hearted. If he had carried him out of the neighborhood, Pei Yiyan might have grudgingly believed it was a sudden act of goodwill. But carrying him all the way to the hospital? Over such a long distance? Impossible!
Putting the matter aside, Pei Yiyan said, “Go and handle the discharge procedures.”
Wu Yi quickly agreed. Just as he turned to call the doctor, Pei Yiyan spoke again, “Also, pull up the hospital’s surveillance footage from last night.”
Wu Yi glanced back at his young master, unsure of his intentions, but nodded in acknowledgment.
Hacking into the system to retrieve the footage wasn’t a difficult task for him.
By the time Pei Yiyan returned home, Shen Yuqing was still napping, so exhausted that his mind was foggy when he saw Pei Yiyan.
“Why are your eyes still covered?” he asked.
Wu Yi answered for Pei Yiyan, “The medicine on Young Master Pei’s forehead needed to drip down, so the doctor covered his eyes as well. I haven’t had the chance to remove it since we got back.”
Couldn’t Pei Yiyan take it off himself?
Oh, right. For Pei Yiyan, it made no difference whether it was on or off—he couldn’t see either way.
Shen Yuqing nodded and asked, “What did the doctor say?”
Wu Yi relayed the doctor’s words verbatim. In short, everything was fine—his health was good.
Shen Yuqing nodded again. Just then, the doorbell rang.
Shen Yuqing yawned, got up, and went to open the door himself.
A man in a tailored suit stood outside. Shen Yuqing asked, “Who are you?”
The original owner of this body had never met this person, and he had no impression of him either.
Upon seeing Shen Yuqing, the man introduced himself, “Hello, Young Master Shen. I was sent by President Pei to—”
Bang!
Without hesitation, Shen Yuqing slammed the door shut.
The man:
