“What kind of scary movie?”
Thinking logically, it didn’t seem likely that Mo Yeon would voluntarily choose to watch a horror film with ghosts or spirits.
“Do you mean thrillers with murder and such…?”
If not that, then what else could it be? Just as he was mentally going through zombie or monster movies, Mo Yeon spoke softly.
“What are you talking about? I said something scary. With ghosts in it.”
That was another moment when he couldn’t hide his surprise.
In truth, Tae Young-won was someone whose taste was far removed from ghost horror movies. Perhaps that’s why he was even more flustered.
If he had to pick a film genre, he preferred romance movies the most. He had lived his life never believing in unchanging love, and therefore considering all relationships to be wasteful.
Because of this belief, he naturally avoided dating, but thinking about it now, he didn’t deny the love portrayed in movies or novels.
In other words, he thought everything was garbage unless it was “true love.”
Even though his parents got along quite well, Tae Young-won’s belief remained firm. First of all, their marriage was an arranged union between families, so in Tae Young-won’s view, it seemed far from true destiny or love.
Perhaps if his father’s business failed and accumulated large debts, his mother would certainly abandon his father and leave, and vice versa—this was what he had thought since he was very young.
When he shared these thoughts with his mother, she was disgusted, saying, “What’s wrong with you?” But since it was just a nine-year-old speaking, she didn’t pay much attention and moved on. However, Tae Young-won’s thoughts hadn’t changed even into adulthood.
Even as an adult, with his beliefs becoming even more fixed, he still enjoyed watching movies or reading books about romance.
But he absolutely never watched horror movies.
For someone who valued aesthetic sensibility like him, watching horror movies was like torture. It wasn’t because he was scared—he had never believed in things he couldn’t see.
He simply couldn’t understand why anyone would deliberately seek out such horrible and unpleasant images.
And he especially couldn’t understand why Mo Yeon wanted to watch it. Mo Yeon was someone who didn’t just avoid watching movies—he had barely seen any in his life.
But if that was the case, he could somewhat understand Mo Yeon’s request.
Mo Yeon didn’t know his own taste.
“Watch this first, and then we’ll watch the horror movie afterward. Got it?”
Thinking that Mo Yeon might share his taste, he put on a romance movie that he might enjoy, but Mo Yeon yawned from the beginning and eventually fell asleep completely.
After the completely unsuccessful first movie ended, Tae Young-won took out the horror movie he had selected beforehand, with mixed feelings. He had chosen it because it was a famous work, but from the gloomy poster with its dark background and bright red blood, Tae Young-won didn’t like it.
‘Why does he want to watch this?’
Perhaps it was an effort to face fear head-on and overcome it.
What he had been thinking in the back of his mind was gradually becoming a certainty. Once the movie started, Mo Yeon even gently reached over to hold his hand.
Tae Young-won firmly interlaced their fingers and said,
“Just tell me anytime if you can’t watch it. I’ll turn it off right away.”
“…”
Mo Yeon quietly nodded. Both of their eyes turned toward the large TV screen simultaneously.
The opening scene was very quiet yet eerie.
A large mansion in some foreign forest. The time was probably very late at night.
An extra who would clearly not appear again after this scene was sweating profusely, escaping from the mansion with a strange gait.
And before long, he encounters a child.
“Ah-!”
Tae Young-won, who screamed irritably, almost poked his own eye while trying to cover it. The child’s eyes had rolled back completely, showing only the whites.
I knew this would happen. But wait, instead of doing this, I should have covered Mo Yeon’s eyes.
“Mo Yeon, are you okay? Even now we could…”
Tae Young-won reached out quickly to block Mo Yeon’s view. And at that moment, when he checked what was probably a face trembling with fear.
“…”
He was met with Mo Yeon’s face trying to hold back laughter. He was even covering his mouth and chuckling.
“Sunbae.”
What?
“If I were sunbae, I’d be fainting all the time.”
“…”
“Fortunately, you have a lot of yang energy.”
Huh.
Tae Young-won was at a loss for words but also felt somewhat pleased. It seemed like this moment would be quite monumental for both of them. Looking at Mo Yeon’s still satisfied face, he could be even more certain.
“Now the baby is teasing his hyung?”
So this was the moment when Mo Yeon first properly “teased” Tae Young-won. The moment he realized it, Tae Young-won’s lips curved smoothly.
“I can’t even scold you for this… It wasn’t your first time watching this kind of thing, was it?”
“That’s not true. I just watched a bit when someone played a prank at school when I was young…”
“This little one is teasing his sunbae.”
Just as he was reaching out to mess up his hair.
“Oh, sunbae, look over there.”
“Where?”
“Her neck just twisted around.”
“Ah! Please. Why are we watching this?”
For quite a while afterward, he could see Mo Yeon teasing him and laughing. After staring at him blankly for a moment, Tae Young-won took Mo Yeon’s hand and placed it against his cheek.
“I’m too scared to watch… I think I can only watch if Mo Yeon covers my eyes?”
“Is it that bad?”
Noticing the somewhat changed voice, Mo Yeon immediately looked at him with surprised eyes.
His expression seemed to be trying to distinguish whether it was a joke or real, so Tae Young-won frowned once more.
“…!”
Immediately, Mo Yeon’s eyes widened like a rabbit’s. They were genuinely startled eyes, as if he had never played a joke.
Ah, at this rate, he’ll say we should never watch this again.
“Actually, this was a movie I’ve always wanted to see, so I had high expectations, but it’s not easy. I think it would be better if I could just avoid the scary scenes.”
“Then I’ll cover your eyes. That way you can still watch it.”
“Mmm, okay.”
Nodding at Tae Young-won’s response, Mo Yeon hesitated for a moment before awkwardly wrapping his arms around Tae Young-won’s large shoulders. Though it created an uncomfortable position for both of them, Tae Young-won showed no sign of hesitation.
Instead, saying he was really thankful, he stuck close to Mo Yeon, entrusting both his body and field of vision to him.
Eventually, he was practically curled up in Mo Yeon’s arms.
“…”
Throughout the movie, Tae Young-won spent most of his time staring at Mo Yeon’s face. He could do so without being caught because Mo Yeon was concentrating on watching the film.
“This is a bit excessive. Honestly, it’s hard to see ghosts that go this far.”
No matter how many times he thought about it, wouldn’t it be much better to stroke his cat, who was rating the realism of horror movies, rather than watching such ugly and grotesque things?
He curled his large body even more and burrowed into Mo Yeon’s embrace. He even brought Mo Yeon’s mechanically patting hand to his palm and kissed it.
Even when he infused it with distinctly sexual intent, Mo Yeon showed no particular reaction. As expected.
Tae Young-won really liked seeing Mo Yeon in such a defenseless state.
“Why, in what way is it excessive?”
“The idea that it would somehow enter a person’s body and try to do such things seems too far-fetched. Most just play pranks and don’t go that far. They usually drive people toward the road to get hit by cars, or push them over railings to make them fall. That’s mostly what happens.”
“…”
“And there’s nothing particularly surprising about the content either. It doesn’t seem very interesting.”
There’s probably only one person in the world who can make him feel such a variety of emotions in an instant.
“I don’t find it interesting either. I don’t want to watch anymore.”
“What?”
“Let’s turn it off.”
“Hmm… You really don’t find it interesting? It’s not that you’re too scared to watch?”
“Ah, you caught me.”
There was another reason why it was difficult to watch, but he didn’t bother explaining.
That future horror movies would depict a world that had been so terrible for Mo Yeon that he could laugh off things like this, and it broke his heart to watch.
Instead of saying that, Tae Young-won nuzzled his face against Mo Yeon’s chest.
“Is it because I’m a beginner? It’s hard to watch it all at once, Mo Yeon.”
“Sunbae really can’t handle scary things…”
While patting his back, Mo Yeon marveled as if finding it interesting.
Well, if Mo Yeon enjoyed seeing him like this.
He was more than willing to watch movies full of such ugly things together.
That night, Tae Young-won counted how many more movies there might be that they could watch together, where he would gladly be teased.
He counted and counted again, and then, relieved that there were quite a lot, he drifted off to sleep.
It wasn’t creepy at all—it was just a sweet night.
