Chapter 126
When Yoo Siwoon remained still, Director Nam loosened his grip on him. Instead, he firmly grasped his shoulder. He shook him hard once to bring him back to reality, pulling his gaze back from wherever it had wandered.
“Why do you need a gun? What happened with Chairman Yoo?”
“I need a gun. Isn’t it easier to kill someone with a gun?”
“…So you’re saying you want to kill someone? Suddenly?”
Director Nam, baffled by this unexpected statement, barely swallowed his exasperated breath and asked calmly. Yoo Siwoon’s pupils, staring directly at him, were unsettlingly clear—he didn’t look like someone who had taken strong drugs.
“Do I need to get your permission for everything, Director?”
“Permission? That’s absurd. That’s not what I meant. I need to know why you’re acting this way so I can take necessary measures and prepare.”
“What measures? I’m just going to do what I’ve always done. Why would you suddenly need to prepare?”
Yoo Siwoon brushed aside the hand on his shoulder as if it were an annoyance. He spoke nonchalantly about doing the usual work as Seongha Group’s problem solver, but cold fury blazed in his eyes, which he couldn’t hide. It was an uncontrollable murderous intent.
“CEO.”
“Yoo Oseon is alive.”
He said coldly.
Yoo Oseon is alive.
The man who believed Eunseong was his wife, his companion, was alive.
Yoo Siwoon could not accept that he was alive, and at the same time, he couldn’t bear it. Urgent murderous intent foamed in his blood, consuming his reason.
“…How is Yoo Oseon…”
Director Nam’s voice trembled in disbelief.
“I met him today at Chairman Yoo’s house. He’s alive.”
“How? How is he alive? You said you dealt with him… Director Yoo Oseon knows about Eunseong, doesn’t he?”
Upon learning that Yoo Oseon was alive, Director Nam also became anxious. Yoo Oseon being alive meant that Eunseong’s identity could be exposed.
“That’s why I’m in a hurry, and I’m getting a bit annoyed with you constantly holding me back.”
Yoo Siwoon frowned, pushed past Director Nam who was blocking his way, and entered the house. When he made eye contact with Eunseong, who had come out of his room hearing the commotion, Yoo Siwoon flinched.
Eunseong approached Yoo Siwoon but stopped when he saw Director Nam following right behind.
“You’re back?”
“Let’s talk later. Something urgent came up. Go back inside. Stay in there, don’t come out. Lock the door.”
“…Okay.”
Although Yoo Siwoon tried to speak as gently as possible, Eunseong’s face darkened, sensing the tense atmosphere. While looking at both men with confusion, Eunseong didn’t ask anything more and went back to his room. Soon after, the sound of the door being locked from inside was heard—a fragile, meaningless barrier.
Yoo Siwoon headed straight for the study. He took out a gun from the safe. He tilted the barrel to check inside and pulled the slide. A sharp metallic sound broke the quiet of the study. After checking the empty ejection port, he removed the magazine. Every time he pushed a bullet in, there was a clicking sound. When he inserted the loaded magazine into the grip with force, the metal parts locked together crisply. After pulling the slide all the way back to hear the first bullet being chambered, he held the gun, extended his arm, and focused his sharp gaze on the aim.
Watching Yoo Siwoon check the gun with such natural ease, Director Nam roughly ran his hand over his face in frustration and said:
“This won’t do.”
“What won’t do?”
“He’s already nearly died once. He’ll be waiting for you to come. Whatever preparations he’s made, they’ll be more extensive than ours, not less.”
“What, has he called in a fully armed tank or something?”
Yoo Siwoon gave a scornful snort, suggesting that even that wouldn’t stop him. He brought a holster and mounted a pistol on each side of his chest, then began gathering ammunition.
“First check how many people we can mobilize.”
“You’re planning to shoot in the middle of Seoul?”
“Yes, shooting him dead seems faster and more accurate than just burying him. Why, is that not allowed?”
Yoo Siwoon moved as if to say he would go alone if Director Nam wouldn’t follow his orders, but Director Nam grabbed him. As Yoo Siwoon turned toward the man holding his arm, his eyes had changed from before. They were sharp with a reckless warning, as if he would shoot anyone who interfered first.
Director Nam firmly prevented him.
“No.”
“…”
“Absolutely, absolutely not.”
“What then, should I wait until they come to kill me, or rather, to take Eunseong? You don’t understand.”
“…”
“If I were them, I would have already come to kill me. Hundreds, thousands of times. I should have torn him to pieces and left no trace. I must have been in my right mind back then.”
Yoo Siwoon’s voice and expression distorted with uncontrollable rage as he insisted he needed to go right away before it was too late, vowing not to spare anyone who tried to take Eunseong from him.
“That’s exactly why you can’t.”
“Just stay out of it. I’ll handle this myself.”
Despite Yoo Siwoon roughly swinging his arm to break free, Director Nam wouldn’t let go.
“Do you think I’m doing this because I’m worried about you getting hurt?”
“…”
“Are you acting so rashly because you don’t know what will happen to Eunseong if something happens to you? If something happens to you, they won’t leave Eunseong alone. You know better than anyone what he will suffer!”
Director Nam shouted, imploring him to come to his senses. His hand holding Yoo Siwoon trembled.
Director Nam wasn’t concerned about Yoo Siwoon but worried about what would happen to Eunseong if something were to happen to him.
If Yongse Pacheon Church discovered Eunseong’s identity, and Yoo Siwoon—the final shield—disappeared, the entire family and council of elders would mobilize to ensure Eunseong could serve as a vessel, fulfilling the prophecy. They would make Eunseong be with a breeder, and to increase the chances of pregnancy, they would have another breeder rape Eunseong.
“Then what should I do?”
“Take him and leave now. I’ll prepare the earliest flight. I’ll arrange for you to leave at dawn tomorrow.”
“You want me to run away? To just leave alone the man who believes my wife is his, who’s alive with eyes wide open?”
“…Haa, please stop taking those herbs and come to your senses. They’ll be waiting with bloodshot eyes to kill you first!”
“That’s why I need to kill him first!”
“Yoo Siwoon!”
Director Nam grabbed Yoo Siwoon’s collar, who wasn’t listening to reason. His upper body staggered from Director Nam’s force, but that was all.
“Please, please calm down. What if something happens to Eunseong because of this?”
“…”
Yoo Siwoon’s extremely agitated breathing gradually calmed. He was thinking about Eunseong. He thought and thought about his companion who now completely depended on him and took for granted his place in Yoo Siwoon’s world.
The tension throughout his body relaxed powerlessly as he thought of Eunseong.
With an expression that made it impossible to gauge his thoughts, Yoo Siwoon just stared at Director Nam, who was trying to calm him down. Director Nam released his collar.
“I’ll prepare for your departure now. I’ll assemble a security team with the most skilled people.”
“I told you. You don’t understand.”
“…”
“They won’t give up. Just like I wouldn’t. As long as Eunseong is alive, they’ll follow to the ends of hell, wherever it may be. Because that’s what I would do.”
“…”
Yoo Siwoon spoke, leaving his crumpled tie, shirt, and jacket as they were. He said that just as he wouldn’t give up, neither would they; the desire to pursue Eunseong was engraved in their blood and couldn’t be controlled by will.
“…Then what are you going to do? Are you going to rush in recklessly without a plan?”
“It seems that’s not a good idea.”
“How can you say that now? You need to think of Eunseong first.”
“You’re right. I’ve been thinking only of myself.”
“There must be a way. First, calm down and put that down.”
Director Nam carefully suggested that he remove the gun from his chest first. Yoo Siwoon looked down at the gun he was wearing.
“If I die… Eunseong would suffer the most. Even if I kill Yoo Oseon, Yoo Seongil will still be alive, and if something happens to me, Eunseong will be in the greatest danger.”
“Yes, please don’t do anything rash.”
“I can’t afford to get hurt then.”
“No, you can’t. Such a thing must absolutely not happen.”
The reckless excitement and anxiety that had been boiling in Yoo Siwoon’s voice until just moments ago, as if something might happen at any moment, had subsided a bit. He was the person in the world who best knew what would happen to Eunseong if something happened to him. Yoo Siwoon was the great shield protecting Eunseong, who was alone in the world, the last line of defense.
